00:00 As the London mayoral race has entered its final lap, Sadiq Khan's lead over Susan Hall
00:07 appears to be narrowing to its smallest since their campaigns started. A new Savanta poll
00:14 for the Centre for London put the Labour mayor on 42% and his Tory challenger on 32%, a gap of 10.
00:24 A poll last week put the gap at 13 points, so Ms Hall does appear to be gaining some ground
00:33 on Mr Khan. A 10-point lead for Mr Khan may seem a comfortable gap but there is particular
00:40 uncertainty this year about the election outcome and that's largely down to two factors. The first
00:48 is that this is the first year that the first-past-the-post voting system will be used
00:53 to decide the contest and now people just don't know how voters who previously voted for example
00:59 on the Liberal Democrat or Green or for another one of the smaller parties, will they decide to
01:04 stick with that preference or will they instead decide to back one of the two main challengers,
01:11 Mr Khan or Ms Hall. The second factor is that this is the first time that Londoners will have to
01:19 bring photo ID to be able to take part in the election, so they'll need to turn up at the
01:24 polling station with their passport, their driving licence or another eligible form of ID
01:30 to be able to vote. If they don't have it they will always be able to go home and return later
01:36 to take part in the election with the correct documentation. But these factors have all added
01:42 to the uncertainty and are definitely creating some nervousness, some degree of caution and
01:49 amongst Labour activists about predicting the election outcome. Most pollsters expect Sadiq
01:55 Khan to win by a comfortable margin but at the end of the day there is only one poll that matters,
02:02 that is the actual election result. We'll get that over the weekend and then we'll know whether
02:09 Sadiq Khan has just won a third term in City Hall or whether Susan Hall has pulled off a shock victory.
