After an FIA WEC race, the Ferrari 499Ps return to Italy where each car undergoes meticulous inspections and fine-tuning in preparation for the next race. At the headquarters of racing partner AF Corse, the preparation of a hybrid hypercar consists of six main stages which, in addition to assembly and numerous checks, include the fire-up and bodywork scanning. A team effort, where the engineers’ data collection, the mechanics’ expertise and the use of advanced tools converge to achieve the ultimate synthesis.

00:00After a race of our 499P, when the car re-enters, an analysis is followed and a punctual check of each individual part of the car,
00:22so a disassembly, a reassembly, which consists of a preparation for the next race.
00:29In races such as Le Mans, this preparation is deepened and up to 70% of the details can be changed to be able to face each race to the maximum.
00:41After the first months of tests, the debut at Sabling and the 2023 season, we have learned to optimize the pre-setting of the car, rebuilding and maintenance of the components.
01:01It is very important to get home as soon as possible after the race, to do a car set-down and immediately put the technicians and our mechanics to work on disassembling the car, checking it and then reassembling it specifically for the next race.
01:17For the two flagship cars of Ferrari in the WEC Hypercar championship, the 50 and the 51, the staff is engaged in mechanical operations, from 35 to 40 people, 40 mechanics.
01:37The car is made up of more than 3,000 pieces, not considering the interiors of the engines.
01:52The engines are a detail where an external check and alignment is made, when I reach their mileage or when they have further checks to do, they are returned to Maranello where more in-depth work is carried out.
02:15Instead, we take care of all the other components and therefore more than 3,000 that make up the car.
02:23In the racing partner's office at F-Corse, after the race, we carry out the control of the cars and we can divide it into six parts.
02:36The first, which corresponds to the disassembly, is also supported by the data and by the engineers between Maranello and here in Piacenza, who carry out a punctual check of everything that happened during the race, followed by the next phase where the subgroups and the dedicated departments go to check these parts.
03:00When something is found that is not compliant, it is replaced, if everything goes according to plan, we move on to the next phase, which is the opposite and therefore the reassembly and assembly of the car and all its components.
03:15At the end of this phase, the so-called fire-up is carried out, which is a static check in the workshop, but motor on motor, front transmission connected, everything working, battery, to see that the mechanical system has been assembled in the right way and that there are no defects.
03:45After this phase, we move on to a first check of the car with a first set-up, which is then completed on the track, and then the last phase, which is the next check, which is the scanning to reflect all the requests of the federation.
04:15But also to be sure that our car is mounted with all the aerodynamic parts in compliance with the regulations.
04:24And so this punctual check is carried out by the workshop before arriving on the track and then, as the set-up, during the race weekend, after each session, it is rechecked.
