00:00There's a lot of Coen Brothers influence in Shane Atkinson's direct-tour debut Leroy, Texas.
00:05John McGarrow from past lives is a meek hardware store manager who discovers his wife is having
00:11an affair with his brother and is at the end of his rope when he's mistaken for being a hitman.
00:15But when he does the deed, he falls into a tangled web.
00:19You can absolutely see where this is pulling from, a splash of Fargo here,
00:23a touch of No Country for Old Men there, but this is one of the better imitations,
00:27thanks largely to Atkinson's script, which is really well observed when it comes to its
00:32characters, many of whom are longing to be respected. Chief amongst these is a dim-witted
00:37private investigator played by the usually reliable Steve Zahn, who is easily the film's
00:42high point. Elsewhere, you've got a small but really sinister turn from Dylan Baker
00:47as the actual hitman searching for his money. I really like this quite a bit,
00:52and if you're a fan of the movies that I'm comparing this to, absolutely give Leroy,
00:56Texas a try because it seems to have slipped under a lot of people's radars.
