00:02 - It's 26 years since Frank Bruno
00:04 was World Heavyweight Champion.
00:06 Boxing made him, but his fame from that famous night
00:10 at Wembley Stadium masked his ongoing battles
00:13 with mental health.
00:15 The Frank Bruno Foundation, set up with the help
00:17 of Northampton Borough Council in 2017,
00:20 is his way of helping others.
00:23 - It's about people going through what mental health.
00:26 People out there not believing in themselves,
00:29 it's a confidence booster.
00:31 It's just helping people in general.
00:33 And we just invite people in to train them
00:35 and look after them, you know what I mean?
00:37 Give them the good advice for later on in their life.
00:41 - The medical profession supports Frank's belief
00:44 that exercise is key to recovery.
00:47 - With my own practice within mental health,
00:50 the values of the foundation here work very much
00:52 to the values that I've always practiced to.
00:55 It's for me, understanding what mental health is.
00:59 We only speak negatively of mental health,
01:01 but I believe and the foundation believes
01:03 that we all experience positive mental health,
01:06 negative mental health, and then there's mental ill health.
01:09 But we don't focus on the positive enough
01:10 and what we need to do to help people
01:13 come out of mental ill health
01:14 and understand positive mental health
01:16 and give those guys the tools they need.
01:19 (applause)
01:23 - The Bruno Foundation, it doesn't stick labels on people.
01:27 It doesn't make you feel like you're a diagnosis.
01:30 It doesn't make you feel like you're just a unit.
01:34 It makes you feel like an individual.
01:36 They get to know you.
01:37 You get to know other people.
01:39 And there's a sense of, a real sense of something personal
01:42 that I don't think comes from a lot of other schemes.
01:45 - What we don't do is tell people
01:46 what they're gonna do on the course.
01:48 We actually tell them around what they need
01:49 rather than the other way around.
01:51 But we don't ever close the door.
01:52 We always keep the doors open to all our clients.
01:55 They can always come back at any point.
01:57 They don't have to make an appointment
01:58 like they do everywhere else.
02:00 We're here and open to try and help them
02:01 get on the better platform.
02:04 - It means a lot helping people and being there for people
02:08 and having a place where you can chill out
02:10 and unload, you know what I mean?
02:12 People need, especially men, they need to cry a little bit,
02:16 you know what I mean, to get the tension out of their bodies
02:18 but it's just to help people
02:19 who are going through mental health.
02:23 - Mental health can affect men, women,
02:25 and children of all ages, even world champions.
02:29 The Frank Bruno Foundation needs your donations
02:32 to continue what it's doing.
02:34 Thank you on behalf of all the people
02:36 who will be helped by your support.
