00:00 Israeli media say the government has been told by legal officials that the ICC is considering
00:06 an arrest warrant for Benjamin Netanyahu.
00:09 Ukraine moves to restrict rights of citizens under martial law.
00:21 Thousands protest in Tbilisi against controversial foreign influence legislation critics have
00:27 dubbed the Russian law.
00:31 At a mass in Venice, Pope Francis says he's thinking about the conflicts in Ukraine and
00:36 Gaza.
00:45 Israeli media say the government has been told by legal officials that the International
00:50 Criminal Court is considering issuing an arrest warrant for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
00:57 The ICC investigation into Israel's actions in the occupied West Bank and Gaza could also
01:03 see arrest warrants issued for other senior members of the government.
01:08 This comes as protests continue in cities across Israel with protesters demanding the
01:13 government do more to secure the release of the hostages still being held by Hamas in
01:20 Gaza.
01:23 An official from Hamas said a delegation from the group would discuss an Israeli tabled
01:28 ceasefire proposal during a visit to Cairo on Monday.
01:33 Efforts to revive stalled ceasefire talks have ramped up in recent days in a bid to
01:38 stop a threatened Israeli ground offensive in Rafa, the southern city where more than
01:43 half of Gaza's population has sought shelter.
02:10 Meanwhile Israel says aid deliveries to Gaza are being stepped up as countries including
02:15 the United States and Jordan continue to airdrop supplies into the Strip.
02:36 A spokesperson at the World Food Program says that while increased levels of aid are a good
02:41 sign, it's too early to say if the risk of famine has been averted.
02:51 Kiev has updated a list of restrictions for its citizens under martial law.
02:56 Ukraine, which has been under martial law since February 2022, is able to restrict its
03:02 citizens' movements.
03:04 Currently, men between the ages of 18 and 60 are prevented from leaving Ukraine in order
03:10 to fight in the army.
03:13 Ukraine also recently lowered conscription age from 27 to 25 in order to summon more
03:19 manpower for its army.
03:21 The country is in desperate need of soldiers on the battlefield.
03:25 Meanwhile, in the city of Rivne, a dismantled Soviet monument will be scrapped in order
03:31 to provide funds for the military.
03:35 The memorial for World War II soldiers is the last in the region to be dismantled.
03:40 Its parts will be used to buy drones for Ukrainian soldiers.
03:44 In its place, city authorities plan to create a memorial to Ukrainian soldiers of war.
03:56 Italy has returned to make itself known and count internationally.
04:01 Most importantly, Italy can change Europe.
04:04 These were the words of Italy's Prime Minister Giorgio Melonia as she addressed Brothers
04:08 of Italy's three-day conference here in Pescara.
04:12 The occasion marked the official launch of the party's electoral campaign ahead of the
04:17 European elections.
04:18 And most importantly on this occasion, Giorgio Melonia announced she's running in those elections,
04:24 a decision that will help her party gain more support.
04:27 And given that she's the president of the ECR group, well, the decision carries a significant
04:32 weight.
04:33 And speaking about the future European Parliament, she also vowed to create a right-wing bloc,
04:40 very similar to what she described as the Italian model that could replicate what has
04:46 been happening here in Italy with the right-wing ruling coalition.
04:50 However, more clarity on which political forces will be part of that coalition will be only
04:56 provided after the elections.
04:58 Giorgio Arlandi for Euronews in Pescara.
05:05 Thousands of people in Georgia have again taken to the streets of the capital, Tbilisi,
05:10 to protest against the foreign influence transparency law.
05:15 Many protesters fear the proposed legislation would undermine democracy and derail the country's
05:21 chances of joining the European Union.
05:23 "I think that this law is very important, it is very important, it is very important
05:29 to have a controlled vote.
05:31 We have to have this law in our country and it should be in the hands of the European
05:36 Parliament.
05:37 We have to have this law in our country.
05:39 We have to have this law in our country.
05:41 But it is also very important to have the energy of people, the strength of people,
05:46 the strength of the people of Georgia, and I think that we should all be involved in
05:51 this process."
05:54 The divisive draft law requires media and non-commercial organizations to register as
05:59 being under foreign influence if they receive more than 20 percent of their funding from
06:04 abroad.
06:07 Critics have dubbed it the Russian law because Moscow uses similar legislation to stigmatize
06:12 media and organizations seen as being at odds with the Kremlin.
06:17 But despite fierce public opposition, the ruling Georgian Dream Party appears determined
06:22 to press ahead.
06:28 "The only argument they have is that it is either Russian or foreign.
06:32 They all have the same argument, that it is a good thing, because it is in the interest
06:37 of the people to have their money.
06:42 Although Georgia's president has said she would veto the law if it's passed by parliament,
06:47 the ruling party can override that veto by collecting 76 votes.
06:53 Then the parliament's speaker can sign it into law."
06:58 Dozens of people gave fascist salutes and chants to honor Italian dictator Benito Mussolini
07:09 on the 79th anniversary of his execution on Sunday.
07:13 Dressed in black, neo-fascists marched through the towns where Mussolini was arrested and
07:18 executed in 1945, as well as in Predapio, his birthplace and burial site.
07:24 They were met by anti-fascist protesters who sang the famous resistance anthem "Bella Ciao".
07:30 The anniversary of Mussolini's execution fell on the same day that Prime Minister Giorgia
07:37 Maloney announced her candidacy in the European elections at her party conference.
07:45 Maloney's far-right Brothers of Italy party traces its roots to the Italian social movement,
07:51 which was founded in 1946 by a chief of staff in Mussolini's last government.
07:57 Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, travelled to Beijing where he met Chinese Prime Minister
08:07 Li Qiang. His visit comes during the Beijing Motor Show, where the country's car manufacturers
08:14 are displaying their electric car models. Tesla has a major manufacturing base in Shanghai
08:20 for both domestic sales in China and exports to Europe and other regions.
08:25 His visit comes as the European Union has launched an investigation into Chinese subsidies
08:30 for the electric vehicle industry. The investigation could lead to tariffs on electric vehicles
08:36 made in China and potentially include Tesla cars. Green energy subsidies in China have
08:42 helped transform the auto market, where electric vehicles are overtaking petrol-powered cars.
08:48 Protests have erupted in Turin as G7 ministers meet to discuss climate. The protesters blocked
08:59 a highway and set fire to photographs of several leaders. The meeting is the first major meeting
09:05 of ministers since COP28 in Dubai in December. Environment ministers from countries such
09:11 as Canada, France and the UK will meet for four sessions over two days. Currently, not
09:17 a single member of the G7 is on track to meet its emission reduction targets for 2030.
09:23 The European Union released a statement denouncing a new law passed by the Iraqi parliament over
09:33 the weekend, which would impose heavy prison sentences on gay and transgender people. The
09:39 statement reveals that the new legislation not just breaks the international covenant
09:44 on civil and political rights, but also breaks the Iraq's own constitution. The law imposes
09:50 a sentence of 10 to 15 years for same-sex relations and smaller prison terms for gender
09:56 transition surgeries.
09:58 Pope Francis has said he's thinking about the struggles facing the people of Haiti.
10:08 He was speaking to thousands who had gathered on St Mark's Square in Venice to hear him
10:13 offer mass.
10:33 Haiti has been in turmoil since the 2021 assassination of President Jovenel Moise. Gang violence
10:40 is rife in the capital, with armed groups controlling most of Port-au-Prince.
10:45 Pope Francis voiced concerns about several global conflicts.
10:52 I think of the Ukrainian martyrdom, of Palestine, of Israel, of Rohingya and of the many people
11:06 suffering from wars and violence. May the God of peace enlighten hearts so that the will
11:16 of dialogue and reconciliation can grow.
11:21 The trip represents an increasingly rare outing for the 87-year-old pontiff, who has
11:27 had a number of health and mobility problems in recent years.
11:31 In concluding his visit to Venice, the Pope jokingly asked the congregation not to forget
11:37 to pray for him, saying this work is not easy.
