00:00Hello there, this is me Ansh Pandey and you are watching Poll Pulse on One India English.
00:14The two phases of the elections have concluded and now we are in the third leg of the general
00:19elections 2024.
00:21But surprisingly, the enthusiasm this time is fading away.
00:25But worry not, the esteemed politicians continue to make headlines and attempt their best to
00:30charge the environment in the elections.
00:34In today's Poll Pulse, we talk about one concerning issue of the 2024 elections, how Mamata Banerjee
00:40got injured again and also we will have the look at Amitie Pazhal and in the end, have
00:46a great look at KG Wall's war room.
00:51So without wasting further time, let's begin.
00:55Starting with the big story of the day.
00:58Just like the first phase of the general elections, voters across 88 seats in 13 states went to
01:04poll in second phase but the voter turnout dropped in comparison to 2019 elections.
01:12The provisional data as of today morning indicates a broad decline in voter participation signaling
01:18a shift that can influence the final result of the elections on 4th of June.
01:23In the last Lok Sabha election, the voter turnout in India averaged during the second
01:27phase on these 88 seats approximately 70%.
01:31But this year, the voter turnout has dropped to approximately 66%.
01:37Now that is a drop of 4%.
01:40This drop suggests a shift in less voter engagement highlighting some potential changes in the
01:45making for the 18th Lok Sabha.
01:48Less than 50% of voters came to polling booths to cast their vote in 6 constituencies, Rewa
01:54in Madhya Pradesh, Bhagalpur in Bihar, Mathura and Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh and Bengaluru
02:00South and Central in Karnataka.
02:04Statewise Assam also saw a reduction in voter turnout ranging from 8% to 13.9% in some constituencies
02:11whereas in Bihar constituencies also experienced a sharp decline of 8 to 12%.
02:17Chhattisgarh also saw minor drops with the smallest being 0.86% only but it was still
02:23a major drop if we talk about the voter dynamics of Chhattisgarh.
02:30This as expected triggered social media debates and questions about the enthusiasm regarding
02:35the elections.
02:36Some even raised concern that the low voter turnout is already reported in BJP ruled states.
02:42However, this is not the case.
02:44Even states like Karnataka and Kerala where the Congress party and the other opposition
02:49parties are quite significant have reported significant downturns with Kerala observing
02:54double digit decline and the most substantial being 18.24% the highest across India in Vodka.
03:02Even Rahul Gandhi's Bihar has registered a 9% lower turnout.
03:07No state showed an increase in voter turnout highlighting a nationwide trend of diminished
03:12voter participation in the phase of this election and it raises concern is it anti-incumbency
03:17or pro-incumbency regarding the government.
03:21Coming to the next story of the day, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee fell
03:25again and injured herself while onboarding a helicopter before leaving for a campaign.
03:32The West Bengal Chief Minister on Saturday got injured while boarding a helicopter during
03:36the Lok Sabha election campaign.
03:39According to the initial reports, the West Bengal Chief Minister slipped and fell while
03:43taking a seat in her helicopter in Durgapur, Paschim Bardhaman.
03:48She reportedly suffered a minor injury and was immediately given medical treatment at
03:53that time.
03:54Well, if we look in the past few months, the times have not been great for Mamata Banerjee.
04:00If one remembers, just a month ago, she also suffered an injury on her forehead after she
04:05fell and was helped by her security personnel.
04:09She continued with her travel to Assam Sol after that.
04:12In her Kalighat residence, the 69-year-old leader was taken to the state-run SSKM hospital
04:18in Kolkata when she suffered a major injury in her head.
04:22The photos at that time had went viral.
04:25Also, if one remembers, Mamata Banerjee a few days ago stated that she survived a major
04:31accident too.
04:32Well, we pray for her speedy recovery in these times, but honestly, why is she getting so
04:37much injured so often nowadays?
04:40Now on to the next story, the question on Rahul Gandhi's Amitabh candidacy has intensified.
04:46Right now, it's the time about sending a message, but the hesitation by the Congress family
04:51and party is just way too loud and too slow too.
04:55Amethi, which was once considered Congress's stronghold, was captured by the BJP's Smriti
05:00Rani in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
05:03But now, the Congress is yet to announce the candidate in the upcoming Lok Sabha election.
05:07The BJP is finding ample opportunity to attack the party, particularly the Gandhi's.
05:13Recent speculations suggest that the Gandhi's may opt to field Rahul Gandhi once again for
05:17the second seat after phase two voting.
05:20But there are also talks that Robert Vadra may fight elections, but these are some rumors
05:24that come out every time during every election, but that has never been formulated.
05:30There are also speculations about the possibility of other candidacy in Raibarili, but that
05:35is also unlikely to happen soon.
05:38In midst, Smriti Rani, the BJP leader, took a jibe at Rahul Gandhi on Saturday during
05:42a rally in Uttar Pradesh's Amethi, which was once a Congress bastion.
05:47While addressing the rally, she stated that Rahul Gandhi first spoke about his relations
05:51in Amethi and then went to Wayanad, where he declared the Kerala seat as his home, while
05:57filing the nomination from there for the Lok Sabha elections.
06:01Smriti Rani, who will be contesting the Amethi seat, once again has criticized the leader
06:05for changing his family, saying that, we've seen how people change colours, but for first
06:10time I have seen a person changing family just for his electoral benefits.
06:16The Union Minister then went on to urge the people to cast ballot on 20th May, the day
06:21Amethi votes and goes for polling.
06:23But what do you think, will Rahul Gandhi return to Amethi after the Wayanad elections?
06:29In the end, we come to Delhi, as the Aam Aadmi Party has fielded four of the candidates for
06:35the seven Lok Sabha seats in New Delhi, as it is partnering in the India Alliance with
06:41the Congress Party.
06:43The constituencies will be polling on 25th May, the 6th round and 7th phase election.
06:49Now Aam Aadmi Party has opened a war room located at the Aam Aadmi Party headquarters
06:54in Deendayal Upadhyay Marg, and it will have 12 teams for different purposes.
07:00Gopal Rai, who is the convener of the party unit, announced this.
07:06The in-charges have been appointed for the four constituencies and they will ensure that
07:11Aam Aadmi Party's whole campaign is run in an organised manner, Gopal Rai announced.
07:16Dedicated teams for logistic campaign management, legal works, data management and analysis
07:22and media and social media, among others, will also ensure a smooth and organised campaigning
07:27for the four seats being contested by the party, Rai announced.
07:32This is all happening at a time when the Delhi CM Arun K. Jeewal, also the Aam Aadmi Party
07:37Supremo is inculcated in Tihar Jail.
07:41Her wife Sunita K. Jeewal is today conducting a maiden road show in support for East Delhi
07:46candidate Kuldeep Kumar in the evening.
07:49The Aam Aadmi Party meanwhile has also announced a new campaign that Jail Ka Jawab Votes Se
07:54as the elections enter third phase.
07:57In the first two phases, the Jail Ka Jawab Votes Se campaign, the door-to-door outreach
08:01was done in the four constituencies and Sankalp Sabhaas were also held against the arrest
08:06of the Arun K. Jeewal by the ED last month in a money laundering case now due to the
08:12scrapped Delhi excise policy.
08:15Gopal Rai and other Aam Aadmi Party leaders say that there is a visible anger against
08:19the BJP and the election is being fought by the people of Delhi and so they will record
08:24their mandate in favour of K. Jeewal.
08:27And so here we are at the end of today's poll wrap.
08:31We hope you enjoyed today's episode and it's a humble appeal.
