00:00Okay Giovanni, so so we're standing next to your design your piece that Luke Perry has built and you've designed
00:05Yeah
00:06Destined for Chappalush Island in Wolverhampton. Yeah, just explain what it's all about what what you know, what it means
00:12So this piece is representing
00:15The black arts the black arts group and the black arts movement has started in Wolverhampton. Yeah, and
00:22The idea of it was to kind of share that history
00:25That's not really told and not a lot of people aren't aware that the black art movement started in the UK
00:30Right started from Wolverhampton and spread to a wider UK and to wider parts of the world. Yeah, so I think it's a very
00:36Interesting and very historic parts of Wolverhampton history. Then absolutely really unknown
00:41So it'd be a great thing to celebrate and to make known to younger generations
00:46Absolutely, it'll be fantastic to see when you're driving around Wolverhampton to see it in situ, you know in situ, aren't you?
00:52Yeah
00:53It's really exciting to be part of this piece
00:57Definitely and what what was it like to work with Luke? I mean, it's a great great
01:02Yeah, it's a great sculptor, isn't it? Oh, it's fantastic. We're working with Luke was it it was very easy
01:10We're we're perfect collaboration went well
01:13There was a lot very clear back and forth and also the I guess guidance because I've never worked in anything
01:20That was more sculptural. Yeah, so taking my work
01:24Painting and more 2d work into a 3d space. It was good having him to kind of like support how things might look
01:30So you say this is the first time you've kind of branched out into sculpture. Really? This is the first big one
01:36I've done little sculptures, but nothing that's been out there publicly. Yeah, so definitely in some time
01:42It's kind of a bit of a learning curve. It is it is designing something a lot more that exists in space
01:49Yeah, it's very different yeah, it's been it's been a great experience really it's a wonderful place
01:54I'm sure you'll get fantastic feedback from it
01:58This piece has been commissioned as part of four artworks
02:02Where asylum art gallery have actually got me in to work with the local community to see what it is
02:08That's important in the area and there's so many fantastic stories to not just Wolverhampton
02:14Specifically the Chappelash area that I just not talked about because they're not part of our immediate
02:20Visual history that we know about but they are really wonderful
02:24so this in particular this piece about the black arts movement is something that I'm really proud to be working with Giovanni on because
02:31there's this
02:33wonderful and joyful heritage to the black arts movement in Wolvo that we just need to expose and
02:39And make sure people know about and once it's all colored up it's going to be such a fantastic piece
