00:00 I'm Melissa Golden with Sports Illustrated here with Jill Peter Lopez.
00:04 Now Jill, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Lakers owner Jeannie Buss has been entertaining us
00:09 with some memories that she posts on her Instagram page.
00:12 Tell us about the latest one that she posted about Phil Jackson.
00:15 Well Melissa, I know it's certainly a source of inspiration and interest for me and I know
00:21 many other Laker fans and people who get to read these insights into the Lakers franchise.
00:27 And one thing she was talking about was with Phil Jackson.
00:30 She said she always liked to get his insights into why he made particular decisions that
00:34 he did.
00:35 And she said she was kind of irritated with him on one Thanksgiving.
00:38 She thought the players had earned the day off and he called all the players in for a
00:42 short practice.
00:43 And she asked him why he did that and he said, "You know, the Lakers are a family.
00:47 These guys are all a part of another one of our families and we wanted to spend a little
00:51 bit of the holiday together."
00:52 So he got them together just so they could experience that family.
00:55 He said they will be home in plenty of time for the holiday dinner with their other families.
01:00 So I thought that was an interesting look from Jeannie into some of the brilliant mind
01:04 of Phil Jackson and not just the X's and O's and the triangle offense of course, but it's
01:08 also that leadership that he displayed.
01:11 And Jeannie did that, she said, in advance of The Last Dance, that documentary on the
01:14 Chicago Bulls and Michael Jordan that is going to be coming out later this month.
01:18 And she said she's got more Phil Jackson memories that she's going to share with us.
