00:00I'm Melissa Rowland with Sports Illustrated, and we're here with Jill Painter-Lopez.
00:09Now, Jill, I know you've been keeping track of LeBron James' new docuseries about his
00:14I Promise school.
00:16I'm curious to see what you've seen so far, what your takeaways are, and if you could
00:20kind of elaborate on the good stuff that he's doing in his community.
00:24Well, Melissa, it's really been emotional for me to watch, and I've seen on social media
00:29a lot of people feel the same, because the kids are the most at-risk kids in Akron.
00:35And so not only do they have issues with reading and math, but they have issues, behavioral
00:40issues as well.
00:41And so the teachers have been working on that.
00:44And a recent episode just showed LeBron James coming in to, you know, talk to the teachers
00:49and give them a little bit of pep talk, because obviously they're putting in their blood,
00:53sweat, and tears, and they're trying to get the test scores up.
00:56And you'll see on this latest episode, only 11 of the more than 200 children passed the
01:02standardized tests in Ohio that they have to take.
01:04Now, they'll have another chance to take that test again here in the spring.
01:09And this, of course, was going back to 2018 when the school opened.
01:12But just really interesting to see all the hard work the teachers are putting in, the
01:16students as well, and LeBron James, because as he said on a recent episode, he wants to
01:21meet these kids in 10 years and have them tell them they're in law school or they're
01:26in law school.
01:27And they're doing very well.
01:28So it's definitely a lot of work, but LeBron James is obviously very committed to helping
01:32that school out every step of the way.
01:34And it's very inspiring to watch.
01:36It's really cool that he's doing this, obviously, such an impactful guy.
01:40Out of all the things that he's accomplished in his career, this might be the greatest.
01:44I absolutely agree with you, because he's affecting so many lives.
