00:00I'm Melissa Rowland with Sports Illustrated, and we're here with Jill Painter-Lopez.
00:08In episode five of The Last Dance, we got to see an intimate look at the friendship
00:12that transpired between Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan.
00:15Jill, tell us a little bit about what went down back in the day.
00:19Well, Melissa, those two had a lot of fun together.
00:22We saw an Olympic Dream Team photo shoot, which they were having so much fun together.
00:27They played cards together, and the practices, not only were they fun, but the competition
00:32between those two was just legendary.
00:35Magic talked about when they played cards together, he said, if I had the upper hand,
00:38he's like, Jordan wanted to play another hour and another hour, and he's like, he didn't
00:41want to just beat you, he wanted to crush you.
00:44And then, of course, the legendary Monte Carlo practice, a scrimmage that we get to see footage
00:48of, and Magic Johnson's team, along with Charles Barkley, they were beating Jordan's team,
00:53so, of course, Magic Johnson had to trash talk him about it, and then, of course, Michael
00:57Jordan just went off.
00:58And really, there was a little bit of a tension there.
01:01Magic Johnson threw a ball into the stands, and it was quiet when they got into the bus
01:04until Magic Johnson broke the tension, telling Charles Barkley, man, we shouldn't have pissed
01:09that guy off.
01:10So then everything was back to normal, they won the gold medal, and those two have a pretty
01:15neat friendship.
01:16Definitely.
01:17It was almost the passing of the torch of sorts.
01:19Absolutely.
