00:00 I'm Jill Pinto Lopez for Sports Illustrated here with our very own Melissa Roland.
00:10 And Melissa, a state assemblyman is trying to enact a new law that stems from the crash
00:14 site where Kobe Bryant, his daughter, and seven others died in that helicopter crash.
00:19 What is he looking to see happen there?
00:21 He wants to make it illegal for law enforcement officers to take photos of deceased people.
00:26 Obviously, this stems from the accident that happened back in January with Kobe Bryant
00:30 and Gianna, where some law enforcement officials shared some photos of the crash site and of
00:36 Kobe Bryant.
00:37 Obviously, Vanessa was incredibly rightfully so very upset about that.
00:43 She issued a statement through her lawyer saying that she was devastated about it.
00:47 And her lawyer said that that was just absolutely unacceptable and advocated for those officers
00:53 to delete those photos, apologize immediately, which they did.
00:58 But if this law goes into place, doing such an act could be punishable with a year in
01:04 jail and up to $5,000 worth of fines.
01:07 Right.
01:08 Okay.
01:09 And so something good could come out of this.
