I PROMISE Student Wins Young Entrepreneur Award

00:05 and we're here with Jill Painter Lopez.

00:07 Now, Jill, some good news in the midst

00:09 of a lot of turmoil right now,

00:12 an I Promise student won a very special award.

00:14 Tell us a little bit about it.

00:17 - Well, we can all use some good news, Melissa,

00:19 and certainly that is the case with Dylan West,

00:21 an I Promise student, and he won an award

00:24 that's based out of Northeast Ohio,

00:26 the school obviously in Akron, for young entrepreneurs.

00:29 It was a pitch challenge,

00:30 so they had to pitch a business idea,

00:32 and his, very interestingly,

00:35 is about pitching free Wi-Fi access for all in Akron.

00:39 He said Wi-Fi connects families,

00:42 students are able to get their schoolwork done.

00:45 The I Promise School, which of course LeBron James founded,

00:48 actually provides and makes sure

00:49 that all their students have Wi-Fi access,

00:51 so when they were doing classes

00:54 during the COVID-19 pandemic,

00:55 when school was still in session,

00:57 they were doing it via Google Hangout.

00:58 So Dylan knows it's so important

01:01 for everyone to be connected on Wi-Fi.

01:03 I love the name of this company.

01:04 He's pitching Scholarly Connections, excuse me,

01:08 and so I think that's very important.

01:09 And who knows, this idea may actually come to fruition

01:13 in the future, but he was one of five award winners,

01:16 and just so cool to see what all the students

01:18 in LeBron's I Promise School are doing,

01:21 especially Dylan West.
