00:00you
00:30what would you say was the biggest difference between Kobe and MJ? Wow
00:40there's so many similarities the biggest difference was that that Kobe
00:50honestly I think the biggest difference that Kobe knew went to kind of turn it
00:55off if that makes any sense Michael was kind of relentless I mean he would and
01:00when he got to know you he would just rib you constantly and there would
01:05always be something about you what you know what you're wearing like I had a
01:09mustache you'd always make fun of me I mean whatever it was but I always felt
01:14kind of you know like like on edge with him you know not really in a bad way but
01:21that I had to I just had to watch my P's and Q's you know and with Kobe I guess
01:26because I was around him so much more and and a lot of more laid-back ways you
01:32know like on the team plane or on the bus or training room or whatever that
01:38you I just got to see the side of him that really not a lot of people got to
01:42see and he was an incredible human being just incredible guy we joke about all
01:50kinds of stuff he started having kids and I have three girls you know and he
01:55started having girls and we'd be talking about raising girls yeah and what that
01:59meant and you know all that it was just it was a beautiful friendship really
02:04honestly it's interesting because I think you know we all heard Vanessa
02:09speak for the first time at the memorial and he really gave a peek into who Kobe
02:16was as a husband and who Kobe was his dad and this is something that you were
02:20really intimately privy to you saw him around his family in a way that most of
02:26us didn't yeah what was that like what was he like behind the scenes well I was
02:31so lucky to have a couple of occasions where once I got to go to the house and
02:36he had this incredible workout facility in the house and the girls Gianna and
02:42Natalia were young very young I mean I think Gianna was probably you know a
02:47toddler and at that time and Natalia was maybe three or four at the most and you
02:56know he's doing his workout and they're crawling all over him and he is like
02:59he's the doting dad and he I saw him so many times just go from mamba to dad I
03:10mean and you saw this too that way where he would be in you know there's
03:15that double doors where the Laker locker room is right and on one side of the
03:20double doors he's the mamba you know in the locker room talking all you guys
03:25working with me or whoever it is and performing on the court right as soon as
03:32he crossed that threshold he was dead and he was the husband and he'd have the
03:37girls you know hand in hand and they'd walk you know Vanessa out and he would
03:42he would graciously give you know a little tidbit of an interview to some of
03:48you guys as he was walking out but it's very obvious that he just kind of wanted
03:51to get out but was never rude about it in any way but you could tell that that
03:56he had just turned that switch it was like a mamba and now I'm not mama you
04:01know you know it's like a superhero kind of thing and then he was dead and it was
04:07really inspiring for me because a lot of times I'd get home from a game
04:12especially if it's a day game and you know my kids were little at the time and
04:17I get home and I just couldn't let it go or unwind or you know I get really
04:22jacked up and emotionally involved a lot of these games especially if something
04:26goes wrong and technically or I missed something I should have gotten or
04:31whatever it could be and it was inspiring to see him be able to turn the
04:37switch you know and I know that that the stories are legendary that he'd go home
04:42and he'd be icing all night or he'd be on the phone with Gary Beatty about this
04:46treatment or that be watching game film but I also know that how attentive and
04:52how doting he was at his dad yeah it's great
