00:00 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:03 Well, the NBA is certainly eager to get back
00:11 on the court in some capacity.
00:13 But there's a groundswell of support amongst some
00:17 to have the non-playoff teams effectively, say,
00:20 right now, call it a season.
00:22 Steve Kerr, the head coach of the Golden State Warriors,
00:25 in a conference call with reporters this week,
00:27 he said Golden State was operating
00:28 under the assumption that their season was over.
00:31 And I've talked to a number of different players and coaches
00:35 from non-playoff teams who have expressed the same thing.
00:38 And I think if the NBA wants to take a step forward,
00:42 one of the first things it can do
00:44 is say to those non-playoff teams, you're done.
00:48 Don't worry about it.
00:49 Go into what Steve Kerr called off-season mode
00:52 and start thinking about next year.
00:53 Now, some of those teams may protest that decision.
00:57 There are teams like the New Orleans Pelicans, which
01:00 are just on the outside of the playoffs looking in,
01:02 that would probably prefer to have a few more
01:05 games to try to earn that final playoff
01:08 spot in the Western Conference.
01:09 But this is certainly a unique situation
01:12 that we're dealing with.
01:13 Because it doesn't make a lot of sense
01:16 to have non-playoff teams come back,
01:19 go through a three-week training camp just
01:23 to come back and play four or five
01:25 meaningless regular season games.
01:27 The logistics of it make it difficult.
01:30 It doesn't really add much value to the NBA overall.
01:34 So as the NBA starts to prepare steps forward,
01:37 whether it's opening practice facilities
01:40 or beginning the process of scheduling a training camp,
01:44 the first thing that they can do is say to those non-playoff
01:47 teams, you're done.
01:48 Get ready for next season.
