00:00 I'm Jill Painter Lopez for Sports Illustrated, joined by Melissa Rowland.
00:06 And Melissa, I know you just got off a conference call with Dwight Howard.
00:10 What were some of the things that you guys discussed?
00:12 Well, he talked about how this pandemic has actually been a very tough time for him and
00:17 his family.
00:19 The mother of his six-year-old son actually died after having a seizure caused by epilepsy.
00:25 And it's been a very difficult time for him.
00:27 He's had to figure out how to have really tough conversations with his son.
00:31 He hasn't left his house much.
00:32 He's been sheltering in place in Georgia, but he said he sure as heck was not going
00:37 to miss her funeral.
00:39 He said that the silver lining of the pandemic has been all the time that he's been able
00:43 to spend with his children.
00:45 But he said it's been a really tough year for him.
00:47 I mean, first he had Kobe Bryant's death, which he said three months ago that he was
00:52 crying himself to sleep some nights.
00:53 And then obviously the death of his son's mother had even closer to home for him.
00:59 But that being said, Dwight said he's been spending a ton of time with his kids, playing
01:04 Uno, playing hide and go seek on his 26-acre property, taking them to the pool, taking
01:10 them to the lake.
01:12 And all in all, he said he's just been trying to keep in perspective that he gets to spend
01:17 this time with them.
