00:00I'm Jill Painter-Lopez for Sports Illustrated, joined by Melissa Rowland.
00:07And Melissa, the Lakers have made a new hire, a director of racial equality and action.
00:12What do you know about her?
00:13The Lakers hired Dr. Corita Brown, who's an assistant professor at UCLA in both African
00:19American studies and sociology.
00:21And she's going to spearhead a new curriculum for the Lakers that teaches them about what's
00:26going on, urgent topics in the news, gives them a greater understanding of that, and
00:30also encourages them and implements programs to effect some real change.
00:35So it's definitely exciting.
00:36It's a move forward.
00:37You know, the Lakers and the Lakers players have been talking about how they want to take
00:42real action in the wake of George Floyd's death and all of the other similar deaths
00:46that have happened.
00:47And they wanted to do something to move society forward.
00:50And so this is a real step in learning how to do that.
00:53Yeah, this is not just words, it's action.
00:56So thank you very much, Melissa.
