00:00 You would be a welcome addition to the Super Friends.
00:02 That is, if you're willing to join us.
00:04 Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the top 10 Hanna-Barbera cartoons.
00:10 I never know what's going to come out.
00:12 For this list, we've looked at all cartoons created or produced under the Hanna-Barbera banner.
00:18 Hey, where are they going?
00:20 I don't know, but let's follow them.
00:22 Number 10 - Super Friends
00:24 Was there a better way to kickstart your weekend?
00:34 And is there a better way to kickstart this countdown than with this?
00:38 Hanna-Barbera can be heralded with many a superlative,
00:41 but the word "super" is more than suitable for this Saturday morning beauty.
00:46 In the great hall of the Justice League, there are assembled the world's four greatest heroes,
00:51 created from the cosmic legends of the universe.
00:54 The Super Friends were DC Comics' Justice League, translated into a family-friendly cartoon.
01:00 We've got to stop them.
01:01 We've got to find them to stop them.
01:03 As the show's production company, Hanna-Barbera had a little pressure heaped on their shoulders with this one,
01:08 but they, like their characters, performed heroically for more than 100 episodes.
01:13 Time for lunch, kids.
01:15 Number 9 - Johnny Quest
01:17 Well, you can scratch at least three off that list. Say nine.
01:20 That makes the odds about right, sir.
01:22 This is animation and adventure at its absolute finest.
01:27 Johnny Quest ran for one season during ABC's Friday Night Prime time period in 1964-65.
01:33 A short but definitely sweet series,
01:39 it told the story of the titular Johnny and his extraordinary travels with his scientist father,
01:45 guardian/bodyguard Race Bannon, and best friend Haji.
01:49 What's wrong with him?
01:50 Featuring a more realistic approach to its artwork,
01:53 the series proved a trendsetter for Hanna-Barbera.
01:56 Quest's enthusiastic reviews encouraged the company to delve further into the action-adventure genre in the future,
02:02 and we're sure glad it did.
02:04 And now to sleep, my little robot friend.
02:09 Number 8 - The Huckleberry Hound Show
02:11 And the bravest knight the world around was one Sir Huckleberry Hound.
02:17 A breakthrough cartoon, The Huckleberry Hound Show gave us all manner of characters
02:22 and garnered all manner of critical acclaim.
02:24 The first animated program to win an Emmy,
02:33 the popularity of its laid-back, drawling star and his laugh-inducing pals
02:38 helped pave the way for original animation on TV.
02:41 With each program split into three sections,
02:47 Huckleberry was joined by Pixie and Dixie and Mr. Jinx,
02:50 and more famously by Yogi Bear.
02:53 That's kind of a gag saying we got in a trade.
02:56 His was a killer clan of cartoon characters.
02:59 Wait till I get my hands on you, I'll tear you to pieces.
03:07 Number 7 - Wacky Races
03:09 And now here they are, the most daredevil group of dacky drivers
03:13 to ever whirl their wheels in the Wacky Races.
03:15 From one legendary character to another,
03:18 the greedy and conniving Dick Dastardly was an original animated anti-hero
03:23 and his snickering dog Muttley the perfect sidekick to such a character.
03:28 You left out Despicable.
03:29 Now I'm going to derail those Wacky Races directly ahead.
03:35 Even though we all knew we shouldn't want Dastardly to win the race,
03:39 there was something about the mustachioed madman that had us rooting for his rocket car.
03:44 Sneaking along last is that mean machine with those double dealing dew batters,
03:49 Dick Dastardly and his sidekick Muttley.
03:52 The mean machine was but one of many fine feats of engineering however.
03:57 The gruesome twosome had the creepy coop.
03:59 Merging along is the creepy coop with the gruesome twosome.
04:02 Peter Perfect had the turbo terrific.
04:05 First is the turbo terrific driven by Peter Perfect.
04:07 And Penelope Pitstop had the compact pussycat.
04:11 All in all it was animated, alliterated, accelerated awesomeness.
04:15 Whoever said blue was the loneliest color was wrong.
04:28 The Smurfs have proven an all-conquering success
04:33 since their original creation by Belgian comic artist Peyo in 1958.
04:38 But Hanna-Barbera's special magic moved that success to a new level.
04:42 The daytime Emmy award-winning cartoon series that began in '81
04:50 is one of the longest running Saturday morning cartoons ever.
04:53 And one of the company's most well-loved of all time too.
04:56 Papa Smurf is joined by all manner of other adjective Smurfs
05:06 as brainy, grouchy, clumsy, greedy, scaredy, sloppy.
05:10 Smurfette and company paint the town, the village, our TV screens, the entire world blue.
05:16 The family unit can make a seriously good subject for cartooning.
05:32 Especially when that family is a little out of the ordinary.
05:35 The words go...
05:36 "TADA!"
05:38 And the Jetsons are certainly that.
05:41 Living in the year 2062, a full century after the show's first airing,
05:46 they go to school and go to work in Orbit City.
05:49 Why, that's impossible!
05:50 George and Jane Jetson are parents to Judy and Elroy,
05:54 Astro is their talking dog,
05:56 and Rosie is their housekeeping robot.
05:58 What's that doing here?
06:02 Rosie is our new robot maid, George.
06:05 Good evening, sir.
06:07 It's a world of commercialized spaceships and super high-rise apartment blocks.
06:12 It's the future, and it's really fun.
06:15 Not tonight, Elroy.
06:16 It's time to blast off for Dreamland.
06:18 Well, okay.
06:20 If Rosie tucks me in and tells me about the cow that degravitated over the moon.
06:31 Having started life on the Huckleberry Hound show,
06:34 Yogi proved too big for a bit part.
06:36 With his white collar and tie, this bear dressed to deliver.
06:40 His self-promoting catchphrase became a pop culture touchstone.
06:44 I'm smarter than the average bear, Boo-Boo.
06:47 Smarter than the average bear he may be,
06:50 but his specialty was getting into funny fixes.
06:53 Well, this hollow log is gonna shoot a bear through the air.
06:57 With his trusty pal Boo-Boo, Yogi lived for lunch,
07:00 and pinching picnic baskets was his hobby.
07:03 The picnic baskets are at my mercy.
07:06 Let's raid the picnic tables!
07:10 He was once accused of pinching a name too,
07:13 but in the end, Hanna-Barbera smoothed things over with MLB star Yogi Berra.
07:18 Another happy ending for Jellystone's jolliest occupant.
07:22 There's one thing you gotta admit about Yogi.
07:24 He's smarter than the average ranger.
07:29 Hey!
07:31 Number 3. Tom & Jerry.
07:33 It feels as though the cartoon cat and mouse act is as old as time,
07:44 but Tom & Jerry were the trendsetters.
07:57 A series of animated shorts produced by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera for MGM.
08:02 This franchise was originally designed to rival Walt Disney's Silly Symphonies,
08:07 and this pair definitely proved there was more to cartoon merriment than Mickey Mouse.
08:26 The basic formula is almost never in doubt, but that's why we love it.
08:31 Jerry teases Tom, Tom takes the bait, Jerry teases some more, Tom loses again.
08:41 It's a simple equation, but a downright effective one that resulted in seven Oscars.
08:56 Number 2. Scooby-Doo! Where Are You?
08:58 The first of many variations of the Mystery, Inc. franchise,
09:08 Scooby-Doo! Where Are You? was a success from the start.
09:11 Fred, Daphne, Velma and Shaggy are joined by the greatest of great Danes in the show's title character.
09:20 [knocking]
09:22 [gasps]
09:23 Hey, that's a good trick! How'd you do it?
09:26 A reaction to the more violent superhero cartoons of the same period,
09:30 the fivesome was famous for their crime-solving skills,
09:32 their psychedelic wheels and for their unrivaled ability to meddle.
09:37 [laughs]
09:39 Very funny! But don't take it off, you look better with it on!
09:43 Countless villains would have gotten away with it if it wasn't for them,
09:46 but this was another tried, tested and triumphant formula.
09:50 Like a good Scooby snack, it just satisfied.
09:53 I gotta admit, that's some act!
09:56 Scooby-Doo!
09:59 Before we unveil our top pick,
10:01 Hurry up, we haven't much time.
10:03 here are some honorable mentions.
10:04 Hand over that gal, sunstroke slam!
10:08 Uh, why don't you pick on somebody your own size?
10:15 [music]
10:17 Top cat! The most effectual top cat!
10:22 Whose intellectual close friends get to call him TC!
10:27 Josie and the Pussycat!
10:30 Long tails and ears for hats!
10:33 Guitars and sharps and flats!
10:36 Neat, sweet, a groovy song, you're invited, come along!

10:55 Number 1. The Flintstones
10:58 Yabba-dabba-doo!
11:03 Rocking their way to the top of our podium,
11:06 the Flintstones make history hysterical.
11:08 We're not going bowling because you had to buy tickets for the opera.
11:13 The Stone Age is made contemporary in this landmark series
11:16 that is often thought of as a kind of precursor to our fifth-placer, the Jetsons.
11:21 Step aside, Pugly-archy, whilst the captain warms up.
11:25 The family unit is once again vital,
11:31 as Fred, Wilma, and Pebbles Flintstone plot their way through life
11:35 alongside Barney, Betty, and Bam-Bam Rubble.
11:38 The prehistoric puns are relentless,
11:40 the characters are Hanna-Barbera's most memorable,
11:43 and the program is appropriately timeless.
11:46 This show not only landed in the top 20 of primetime shows its first season,
11:54 it even became the first cartoon series to be nominated for a Best Comedy Series Emmy.
12:00 Our gold medal will cause quite a stir in Bedrock.
