00:00 The Tortured Poets Department is finally here, and it seems Taylor Swift may be preparing
00:05 to throw down with her youngest enemy yet.
00:08 Taylor Swift dropped The Tortured Poets Department on April 19th, 2024, and while fans were expecting
00:13 to hear songs about her ex, Joe Alwyn, one person they weren't expecting to pop up was
00:18 Kim Kardashian's daughter, North West.
00:20 Since the album came out, fans have speculated about what, or more importantly, who, Taylor's
00:25 latest tracks are about.
00:26 "It's like the one constant throughout my entire life, so it means a lot, yeah."
00:31 One big theory is that the track "Thank U, Amy" is about Kardashian, and that it also
00:35 references her and Kanye West's daughter, North West.
00:38 Released as part of the deluxe version of the album titled The Tortured Poets Department
00:42 The Anthology, the track's title has some interesting capitalized letters, spelling
00:46 out "Kim."
00:47 It also has some very telling lyrics.
00:49 In the song, Swift not-so-subtly suggests that she had written a song about someone,
00:53 but changed their name and any real defining clues.
00:56 She also remarked on how this person's child would come home singing it, without knowing
01:00 it's about their parent.
01:01 Many fans pointed out on ex, formerly known as Twitter, that Swift appeared to be referencing
01:05 North West and her love for making TikToks.
01:07 One ex user wrote,
01:08 "What are the odds of North West posting a TikTok with 'Thank U, Amy'?"
01:12 Another tweeted,
01:13 "I can't wait for North West to post her video dancing to 'Thank U, Amy'."
01:16 A third teased,
01:17 "I wonder what North West's favorite track on the Tortured Poets Department is.
01:21 I think she'd like 'Thank U, Amy' but maybe that's just me."
01:24 North West and Kim Kardashian have already used Swift's music on TikTok, "Dancing to
01:28 Shake It Off" together, in a since-deleted video posted in 2023.
01:32 It's also worth noting that Kim Kardashian's niece, Penelope Disick, is a Swifty, as she's
01:36 been spotted wearing a Swift hoodie on social media.
01:39 The rest of "Thank U, Amy" is about someone who bullied Swift, and there are more than
01:42 a few other hints she's singing about Kardashian.
01:45 Swift references a bronze, spray-tanned statue of her bully in her hometown, and mentions
01:49 a plaque that threatens to push her down the stairs.
01:52 While California isn't Swift's home state like it is Kardashian's, and they didn't go
01:55 to school together, we know Swift has homes in California, and "school" could well refer
01:59 to her seeing Kardashian at events when she was younger.
02:02 The bronze, spray-tanned reference?
02:04 Kardashian's undoubtedly a spray-tan fan.
02:06 "Honestly, I didn't even have time for this trip.
02:08 I have a spray tan at 1 a.m."
02:11 Swift also sings about how this person wrote headlines in the local paper, laughing at
02:15 her baby steps, which appears to reference Kardashian's past public comments about her.
02:20 Swift and Kardashian's feud goes back years, of course.
02:23 Swift has certainly made no secret of how hurt she was amid the drama around Kanye Song
02:27 Famous and the phone call scandal between the three that came afterward.
02:30 As recently as 2023, Swift told Time,
02:33 "That took me down psychologically to a place I've never been before."
02:36 "I'm not going to lie, I was a little bit hurt by that.
02:37 I was a little bit hurt by that."
02:38 "I'm not going to lie, I was a little bit hurt by that."
02:39 "I'm not going to lie, I was a little bit hurt by that."
02:39 (upbeat music)
