00:00 CM Punk has cost Drew McIntyre a lot.
00:24 The epic feud has only been going on for 2 months now but it feels like there's a whole
00:28 lot of money to be made from it in 2024.
00:32 In case you've been living under a rock, CM Punk attacked Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania
00:37 40, directly leading to Damian Priest successfully cashing in his Money in the Bank contract.
00:43 And on Raw after WrestleMania, he distracted Drew McIntyre to help Jey Uso become the number
00:49 one contender for the World Heavyweight Championship.
00:53 So why exactly was CM Punk costing Drew McIntyre twice best for business?
00:59 Let's take a deeper dive.
01:01 The two men have been on completely different career paths.
01:04 They aren't parallel and they're hardly similar at all.
01:08 If anything, the only thing they have in common is the fact that their runs in WWE overlapped
01:14 for a few years between 2010 and 2014, the year both were done with their first stints
01:20 with the company.
01:21 Despite the lack of commonality, they're now embroiled in a rivalry that could possibly
01:26 become the wrestling feud of the year.
01:29 Their story only began in late January of 2024 at the Royal Rumble.
01:35 The final 4 of this year's men's Royal Rumble match featured Gunther, Cody Rhodes,
01:41 Drew McIntyre and CM Punk.
01:43 While Cody took Gunther out for the second year in a row, Drew McIntyre was eliminated
01:48 by none other than CM Punk.
01:51 But for CM Punk, it came at a big cost.
01:55 His first WrestleMania main event.
01:57 Cody would go on to win the match by eliminating CM Punk, but the best in the world had his
02:02 right tricep torn thanks to McIntyre.
02:06 Punk was rumored to be headlining night one of WrestleMania 40 against Seth Rollins, but
02:11 that wasn't meant to be due to the tricep injury that now required surgery.
02:16 As Punk entered the operating room, Drew McIntyre left no stone unturned when it came to mocking
02:22 him.
02:23 He took pride in the fact that he injured CM Punk to the extent that he did, and it perfectly
02:27 aligned with the villainous character that he quickly settled into.
02:31 McIntyre had already been a bad guy for a couple of months now, but he took it to a
02:36 whole new level with the CM Punk ordeal.
02:39 He used the situation to get heat for himself and he couldn't keep CM Punk's name out
02:43 of his mouth.
02:44 While McIntyre was busy posting memes on social media taking shots at Punk, Punk himself chose
02:50 a different approach, staying quiet for the most part.
02:54 While Punk didn't speak up too much, he made sure that whenever he did open his mouth,
02:59 that there was real deal impact whenever he fired his shots.
03:03 Drew McIntyre's approach to social media helped keep himself relevant in a big way.
03:08 In fact, nobody on the entire WWE roster, not even The Rock, used social media to generate
03:15 buzz the way that Drew McIntyre did.
03:18 He was red hot, and it was no surprise that after Punk's injury, he was the first choice
03:24 to face Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania.
03:28 It's even more impressive when you consider that Drew McIntyre had already lost to Seth
03:33 Rollins twice in two months, once at Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia in November 2023, and
03:39 once on the Day One edition of Raw this year.
03:43 While Punk had some time to respond in the build-up to WrestleMania, it really culminated
03:48 at WrestleMania Sunday itself.
03:50 After Drew McIntyre predictably defeated a beaten down Seth Rollins to become the World
03:55 Heavyweight Champion, he finally got his moment to celebrate a World Championship victory
04:00 in front of fans, a moment that was 4 years in the making.
04:03 It wasn't enough for him though, and after his win, he went to CM Punk on commentary
04:08 and stood on the table to rub salt in the wound.
04:11 That was supposed to be CM Punk, but it was Drew McIntyre holding the title instead.
04:16 But in a poetic moment, CM Punk decided to launch an assault on McIntyre and took him
04:21 out giving Damian Priest the perfect opportunity to finally cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase
04:27 successfully.
04:29 And just like that, Damian Priest pinned Drew McIntyre to become only the second World Champion
04:34 of Puerto Rican descent in WWE history.
04:38 He also became only the second man to cash in the Money in the Bank briefcase at WrestleMania.
04:43 As you know, the first person to do it was the man McIntyre beat, Seth Freakin' Rollins.
04:50 From being called a fool for not being able to cash in his briefcase, Damian Priest instantly
04:55 turned into the most calculating man in WWE timing his cash in perfectly.
05:00 As if it wasn't poetic enough, Drew McIntyre's obsession with CM Punk cost him the World
05:06 Heavyweight Championship, but 24 hours later it was gonna get worse for him.
05:11 The next night on The Raw after WrestleMania, Drew McIntyre was scheduled for the main event
05:18 where a fatal four-way between him, Ricochet, Bronson Reed and Jey Uso would determine Damian
05:24 Priest's challenger for the World Heavyweight Championship.
05:29 McIntyre was perfectly positioned to finish Jey Uso and pin him for the 9th time in 5
05:34 months, but seemingly out of nowhere, CM Punk appeared and held Drew McIntyre's leg, giving
05:40 Jey Uso just the perfect time to take advantage and switch positions, pinning Drew McIntyre
05:46 for the first time.
05:47 This was another brilliant bit of storytelling.
05:50 Not only did Drew McIntyre's hated rival CM Punk cost him again, but Jey Uso, the man
05:56 who McIntyre has hated with a vengeance for 2 years now, pinned him to earn a World Championship
06:02 opportunity.
06:03 What makes this whole feud between Punk and McIntyre even more impressive is the fact
06:08 that Punk hasn't even had a match since it began.
06:11 It's a story that's been crafted so well that it's managed to drum up interest even
06:15 when everybody knows that their first match against each other is probably gonna be a
06:19 few months from now.
06:20 Assuming we follow the timeline of CM Punk's return, he should be cleared for in-ring action
06:26 around July.
06:27 The fact that Clash at the Castle takes place in Scotland makes it the perfect place for
06:32 Drew McIntyre to win the World Heavyweight Championship back.
06:36 The next couple of months are gonna be incredible.
06:39 The potential for character growth, specifically for Drew McIntyre, is immense.
06:44 We hope he has a complete breakdown and goes berserk, wrecking havoc on Monday Night Raw.
06:50 It says a lot that fans are still so invested in him after the back-to-back defeats he suffered
06:55 at WrestleMania and The Raw after.
06:58 It's the storyline of the year, candidate, and we're only one third into the year.
07:02 WWE can take two routes with this CM Punk/Drew McIntyre rivalry.
07:08 They can either have the feud play out until WrestleMania 41, with Drew defeating CM Punk
07:13 handily at Summerslam to gain the upper hand.
07:16 After months of keeping them apart, it's the perfect opportunity to possibly have CM
07:21 Punk win the Royal Rumble and challenge McIntyre at WrestleMania 41 where he can get his revenge.
07:27 Or, they could take the safer route of ending the rivalry at Summerslam, or maybe having
07:32 a series of matches in the summer of 24 that ends around October.
07:37 It's a good way to make sure that the feud doesn't overstay its welcome and neither
07:40 man will lose their momentum.
07:42 Either way, it's going to be an extremely interesting period to be a Drew McIntyre and
07:47 a CM Punk fan.
07:49 With Punk gaining even more popularity after the release of the all-in brawl footage between
07:54 him and Jack Perry, he isn't going to have any trouble staying relevant in the months
07:58 to follow.
07:59 This feud has a lot of dollar bills printed on it, and we can't wait to see how it all
08:04 plays out.
08:05 Thank you for watching.
