01:00 Hello everyone and welcome to the very first spring virtual performance series final.
01:12 I'm Ted Barton, the executive director of Skate Canada British Columbia Yukon, and
01:16 it is my pleasure to host this first of its type here in Canada.
01:20 Before we get started, I would like to acknowledge we are on the traditional
01:24 territories of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh nations.
01:28 We thank them for this beautiful land in which we live, work and play.
01:31 Now a bit of background to this broadcast.
01:35 During the pandemic, we needed to respond to the changing world.
01:39 And so we investigated the technologies required to provide an ongoing
01:43 participation in skating during those very uncertain times.
01:48 So we worked with Skate Canada National to produce an online judging system for
01:52 video playback, which worked very well.
01:55 In addition, we worked with the International Skating Union to produce
01:58 live skating events in two different countries with officials from around
02:02 the globe judging online.
02:04 So here we are using what we developed during COVID and
02:08 now we apply it in assessment days around the province and
02:12 virtual competitions such as this one.
02:14 So let's get started.
02:16 We have 56 skaters representing all five regions in British Columbia.
02:21 There are ten categories in artistic and
02:23 showcase and one star for synchronized skating team.
02:27 Now anyone can enter this performance series final, but only the skaters
02:31 who have competed in a regional competition this season or
02:35 the Super Series final in Kelowna in early March can be in the final standings.
02:40 Officials are now live online to judge the programs which we previously recorded
02:45 to specification.
02:46 The conclusion of the skaters program we will show replays and
02:50 once scoring is complete, you will see the scores come up on the screen.
02:54 So let's get started with star five artistic, which begins right now.
