00:00The leader, can you just take one more swing at that?

00:05Speaker Johnson is, of course, a very new leader.

00:09And we've all watched him come in and try to take

00:13hold of this conference.

00:15Can you assess his role for us so far?

00:18And what do you mean for him and sort

00:21of for the state of our politics here

00:24that he has made this choice to put this job on the line

00:29and see what he can do with you and Democrats to provide it?

00:35As much as I would like to think that the American people care

00:38about what I may have to say about the job performance of any

00:42of my colleagues in Congress, I don't

00:44believe that that is the case.

00:45And so I think what the American people care about right now

00:50is meeting their needs in a very dangerous world in terms

00:57of standing by our Democratic allies in defense of freedom

01:02and liberty here at home and across the globe.

01:07That will be the ultimate test by which Speaker Johnson, myself,

01:14and all of our colleagues in the House on both sides of the aisle

01:20will be judged.

01:23Will be judged.

01:23And that's how we should be judged.

01:26Did we deliver for the American people?

01:31And the threshold, I think, in terms of the test

01:34that we've confronted as Democrats is that we are consistently

01:39delivering for the American people.

01:43Let me reiterate that in terms of Speaker Johnson,

01:48we have an open, honest, and highly communicative relationship.

01:54He has to manage the dynamics of a very unruly House Republican

02:01conference filled with pro-Putin extremists who have

02:09zero interest in funding Ukraine.

02:14Let's see what happens on the floor tomorrow

02:19when the funding bill for Ukraine is before the House

02:23of Representatives.

02:25But it took bipartisan cooperation led by Speaker Johnson

02:31on the other side of the aisle to get us to a point, finally,

02:36where America's national security interests can be considered.
