00:00 Gavin, 3-2 defeat against Leatherhead, but there must be a lot of pride in that second
00:07 half performance there, coming from 3-0 down against one of the best sides in the league
00:10 and they were hanging on at the end there.
00:11 Yeah, definitely. I think they're the best side in the league, they're definitely the
00:15 side with the best intensity and the best way of playing in my opinion. I like what
00:20 they do and they were good first half, although I do feel that we contributed to their goal
00:27 massively. We can over-analyse stuff, but we definitely just poor decision-making gave
00:34 them three goals really. They've got the quality to be fair, the balls in the box were decent,
00:40 you don't get that at every team you play, everything they put in is dangerous. We were
00:46 a bit disappointed at half-time because I didn't feel the fitness or the amount of games
00:51 we played played too much a part of us being behind. If I'm honest, it was more to do with
00:57 our bad decisions. We regrouped at half-time and we didn't really ask for it. We picked
01:03 up brilliant at half-time in the change rooms. People got told some honest truths a little
01:09 bit, where they can improve, what they're doing wrong. They took it on board and the
01:13 intensity that we showed second half, like I say, I think the games we played for me
01:20 battered them second half. We played some good football, we were pressing, we were intense
01:26 and everything we did had a bit of quality on it. We deserved the two goals and if we
01:30 had got a third I don't think they could have complained really. Really, really positive
01:35 because we've been looking for something to take some belief from because it's been a
01:39 real tough time. Even though we've lost, to win the second half like we did, putting
01:45 that level of performance was really good. That's really pleasing. It gave the people
01:49 who come and watch who have been a bit disappointed lately something to be pleased about rather
01:55 than it could have crumbled and we could have lost 5-6. It really had a go, so really positive.
02:06 With all the run of all these games we've been having to play the last few weeks, Monday,
02:13 Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday, Thursday, it would have been easy
02:18 at 3-0 just to think that's another game but it's the same, second half you really took
02:24 it to them. The thing is before the game, how were we going to approach the game because
02:29 obviously we're seventh game, 12 days, they've had 10 days off so it's always going to be
02:35 an uphill battle. We were looking for a bit of character, try and stay in the game as
02:41 long as we can and we didn't. So it showed up resilience to come back into it. Like I
02:46 say, we could have just folded and it was really good. It's a young day, it's gone on,
02:52 17 years old, done really well. Real positive for the club that we've got someone like that
02:57 in the youth team who can step onto the pitch against a top side and equip himself well.
03:03 You say producing that against one of the best sides in the league as well. We've seen
03:09 earlier in the season what you're capable of but that second half tonight, as you say,
03:14 something to build on.
03:16 Both games against them as a management team you get a sense for it. I am level, I don't
03:21 feel, but when we play other teams there's not that level of intensity and quality. They're
03:26 good at what they do, the other teams, but they're just on a different level for me in
03:30 terms of the way we play and their fitness levels. They're just really good players.
03:37 They're really good at what they do and you feel it on the sideline. You feel this could
03:42 be 3-4. If they take their chances, if they're really clinical, you can end up with a real
03:50 battering. So the positive for us, we beat them at theirs 2-1 after going behind and
03:54 today we've gone 3-0 behind and we've come back, got 2-0 and made a real game of it.
03:59 I think that bodes well for us going forward hopefully, hopefully we can get a couple of
04:03 results to get into the city.
04:06 You had them pinned back, you created chances and then obviously there's the penalty to
04:10 get you going. Laming wins it and then he steps up and touches it away well.
04:14 Yeah, it's a bit of a Chelsea run there because he's not the brilliant regular penalty taker.
04:18 Josh really took it but he had the confidence to step up and put it away which was good.
04:25 Then obviously Kareem's bundle run in for the second.
04:29 If you'd got an equaliser, I'm definitely going to complain, just didn't quite draw it in.
04:34 No, definitely not. I actually thought we had a couple of good chances first half, but
04:38 we just didn't. We could have took earlier, we could have maybe again decision making,
04:43 doing things at the right time. We weren't completely out in the first half and just
04:48 didn't quite feel, I think George had one where he was stuffed in and maybe cleaner
04:55 contact he goes in or at least trouble to go, yeah he hit the bar on the header. I think
04:59 Kareem had one that he could have over. There was a couple of little off chances.
05:03 We weren't out the game first half although we were losing 3-0. It was competitive but
05:08 it was intense and you did feel that we could score at any time. So, there's a problem
05:14 if we want to be tested.
05:16 And you kept going for that equaliser and just wouldn't quite drop at the end.
05:20 No, I was hoping to give us even more to celebrate but it just didn't happen. Take the positives
05:28 out of the win in the second half. There's no points but...
05:32 No, but plenty of positives. Probably a good time to have the Saturday off now after all
05:37 these games and build up to Tuesday and up the Oaks Bridge.
05:40 It's been tough and we've relied on, because the squad's really light at the moment, we've
05:45 lost a few players. There's a few injuries floating about. George has picked a knock-up
05:49 tonight. I don't think it's too bad. More than dead legs. It'll give him five days to
05:53 recover. And to be honest, me, Vic, Dan, we're not good. Just travelling around and being
05:59 you always want more football but when it's there and you're having to do it every night
06:03 it does become a little bit like you need a little bit of time off to reset. So, it'll
06:08 be good this weekend. We're going to watch a game.
06:11 And just thoughts on the Oaks Bridge on Tuesday?
06:15 Not a tough game because they're doing well. Our interseason has been really difficult
06:20 with the fatigue we've had. We obviously owe them one. When we went there, they were on
06:27 a bit of a roll actually. We were doing well and they upset us that day. We didn't really
06:33 turn up how we could. Probably let ourselves down a little bit, gifted them a couple of
06:37 goals and they took full advantage. On that day, second half, they could have beat us
06:42 five or six. We wouldn't have been able to say anything. But we gifted them two goals
06:46 definitely. Nui and George both gave bad goals away. So, it'll be one to try and return the
06:55 favour and beat them.
06:56 So, you want to take that momentum from the second half into that?
06:59 Yes, and then go and have a good day out at Chertsey in front of a load of people. Hopefully
07:04 perform and make a good showing of ourselves and hopefully get a result. And then we look
07:08 forward to the semi-final against Hartley Whitney.
07:10 If we can get through that, that's a big one.
07:13 Yes, that's what we want. Obviously, a final against Westfield would be great. But Hartley
07:17 Whitney are sort of the same struggles as us really. They've had a really good season
07:22 and then it's sort of petered out. Losing a few games, got beat quite heavily at times.
07:28 But they're a young group as well. So, yes, it can be tough. It should be a good game.
07:33 be a good game we're probably both saving it for that.
