00:00 Hyde residents moved near the seaside hoping for peace living by the sea, but instead this
00:07 is their reality.
00:11 Those living on St Leonard's Road say there's no such thing as peace and quiet, as multiple
00:17 times throughout the hour sewage tankers are going up and down the street to access the
00:22 nearby wastewater pumping station.
00:25 It's been waking me up every night now since it started. I actually haven't slept through
00:30 I think for four months now. I've got two children, there's a school down the road,
00:34 I also have pets, so I'm concerned as well about the safety because some of the drivers
00:39 don't stick to the speed limit.
00:41 Because we live on the corner, the lorries have slowed down to take the corner, so we
00:46 don't get the vibration, we just get the noise. If one is coming out, as one is coming in,
00:53 one of those lorries has to reverse up and that causes a lot of noise in the middle of
00:59 the night.
01:00 It wouldn't be so bad if they told us what was going on, a time limit, or if they've
01:04 got some sort of plan when they're going to stop.
01:07 The road is taking a real pummeling. I can feel the shuddering in my bedroom. It really
01:14 is becoming, has become a public nuisance.
01:18 Southern Water puts the influx of vehicles down to the wettest 18 months on record, saying
01:24 it's put pressure on its network.
01:26 I don't know why they haven't communicated with local residents to drop a few hundred
01:32 leaflets down the immediate roads that are affected, just to notify residents as to the
01:38 reasons behind why this is required. And with no end in sight, you know, they're concerned
01:44 this is going to be here for the foreseeable.
01:46 I've been on this road for about two hours today and in that time I've seen eight sewage
01:50 tankers going up and down this road. But residents say that's nothing compared to what it's like
01:55 on a daily basis. So their next step now is sending this petition to folks in Hyde District
02:00 Council asking them to take action and do something about this.
02:04 The council have no authority, no control, and no influence on Southern Water. However,
02:11 I am in daily contact with Southern Water. They are very, very, very well aware of the
02:18 distress, the sleepless nights, the torment that it is causing to the residents.
02:24 But residents aren't disputing Southern Water has a job to do. They say they just want better
02:29 communication and minimal disruption. They're hoping with this petition, the road ahead
02:35 will be smoother and their sleepless nights will be no more.
