Cardiff has been without a bus station for almost a decade. The city has had to rely on bus stops dotted around the city centre, but a date for the new building to open is expected in the coming weeks. We’ll be taking a deeper look into what we can expect from the new station, and whether it’ll be open any time soon.

00:00 You can find a bus in any city basically anywhere in the world and most cities have a central
00:05 bus station. In Wales, all the biggest cities and most of the small towns have some form
00:09 of bus station, but that is all except for Cardiff.
00:13 Back in 2015, the original bus station just outside the train station was closed for good,
00:17 with the hopes of building a new one a few years later in 2021. Well 2021 came and went
00:22 and then it was supposed to be 2022 which again came and went and now in 2024 there's
00:27 hope that with the building finally almost complete, we'll find out when it's set
00:30 to be open. A spokesperson for Transport for Wales has said that the opening date will
00:34 be announced in the next few weeks, so it seems it is just on the horizon. Cardiff has
00:39 had to cope with various bus stops dotted here and there in the city centre without
00:43 a central place to change buses. That's been difficult for many people and for visitors,
00:47 finding a bus can often be a nightmare. There's hope that the new multi-million pound building
00:51 with eight storeys of office space and apartments above the 14 bus bays will finally make bussing
00:57 in and out of Cardiff a simple task once again.
