00:00When it comes to social media safety in general, Mark,
00:03what do you think is not being talked enough about?
00:07I really appreciate that question. So getting a lot of news coverage here,
00:12and you mentioned bipartisanship, social media safety is an issue where we're seeing
00:19policymakers of all ideological stripes joined together to confront this issue.
00:24What I want to stress is despite the recent press on this, congressional hearings,
00:31people are still not really understanding at home how severe and pervasive these harms
00:37actually are. We are seeing massive cyber bullying across the country that is resulting
00:43in suicides and other really serious outcomes. We are seeing human trafficking, sextortion,
00:49drug trafficking, long list of mental health impacts. So a really long list of harms that
00:56are hurting millions of children. We have legislation pending both in Congress,
01:03in some states across the country, that would require social media platforms that give services
01:09to children, allow children on, to finally give parents the choice to use what we call
01:14third-party safety software. That is software that can send parents life-saving alerts when
01:22dangerous content, like those dangers I just mentioned, comes across a child's social media
01:27account. It's a proven life-saving intervention. Some social media platforms allow that choice,
01:33others do not. We're trying to make sure that all parents on all platforms have it.
