Pagtalakay ng iba't ibang isyu sa Trilateral Summit, mahalaga ayon sa isang eksperto
Transcript
00:00 The first trilateral summit between the Philippines, Japan and America was considered by an expert.
00:06 This is a big deal especially with the many challenges that the Philippines is facing in the West Philippine Sea.
00:10 Kenneth Paciente is the reporter. Rise and shine Kenneth.
00:13 Some members of the Academy believe that the first Philippine-US-Japan trilateral summit
00:23 will be held in the Philippines with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., US President Joe Biden, and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
00:30 According to some experts, the summit is a big deal especially when security in the Indo-Pacific region,
00:38 particularly in the West Philippine Sea, is being constantly strengthened.
00:41 This is also a proof of the readiness and willingness of the Philippines
00:45 to uphold the rules-based international order in a proper manner.
00:50 It's an indication that three democracies, the Philippines, Japan and the United States,
00:55 want to do more beyond the existing or traditional framework of their cooperation.
01:01 And this calls for more integration at a time when the risks that the three of us are facing are multiple
01:10 and of course at the same time the challenges that we are seeing from all fronts are multidimensional.
01:16 It's also important that the three leaders discussed security in the maritime domain,
01:21 which is something that is only in line with their wishes,
01:24 that the 2016 arbitral ruling should be followed
01:27 where the Permanent Court of Arbitration established the Philippines' right in the West Philippine Sea.
01:34 The same is true of the international law and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
01:39 This is also an implication that the three countries are ready to build a joint step
01:44 to address the challenges in the maritime domain.
01:47 Today we are seeing this being addressed,
01:50 particularly under the administration of President Marcos Jr.
01:54 where we realized that we are not only marginal players in the Indo-Pacific,
01:59 we are also very important players when it comes to stabilizing the rules-based order in the region.
02:06 And with that realization, that proactivity,
02:09 here we can see that Manila is more than willing to do more in terms of engaging with our partners.
02:17 Even so, this is not the way for the Philippines to start a chaos in the West Philippine Sea.
02:22 Instead, it is only to defend its sovereignty in the so-called territory.
02:28 It is very much important to maintain and secure this established order
02:32 where our position is at stake, particularly in the West Philippine Sea.
02:38 The Trilateral Summit will also serve as a way to get support from the country
02:42 when it comes to strengthening its defense capability with the help of the US and Japan.
02:48 This will further strengthen the economy of the Philippines
02:51 through strengthening cooperation between the three countries.
02:55 This has a lot of potential to enhance our investments in the country,
03:01 to build up our economy when it comes to high-impact projects,
03:05 and to prepare ourselves to be more resilient amidst this so-called "chip war" that is happening.
03:12 In the discussion of the Umanoy-Gentleman's Agreement of China in the former administration,
03:16 experts said that if this is true,
03:19 it is only favoring China and compromising the interests of the country.
03:23 The former president, if there is such a thing really as a gentleman's agreement,
03:27 fell to the Chinese trap.
03:29 It's also a betrayal on his position as the commander-in-chief of the armed forces of the Philippines.
03:37 So, Mr. President, if you are the commander-in-chief,
03:40 you will let go of your people's comfort and welfare
03:48 in a corrupt Second World War landing ship tank.
03:51 This also shows a violation of what the country is fighting against
03:55 and grave mistakes in our national interest.
03:58 The country should not allow its people to get what they want just by attacking the Philippines.
04:05 Thank God our current president is very much aware of his responsibility to the Filipino nation
04:11 and of course his obligation as the commander-in-chief of the armed forces of the Philippines.
04:15 President Marcos Jr. said that he was horrified
04:19 when he learned about the Umanoy-Gentleman's Agreement
04:22 that was entered by the previous administration.
04:25 Kenneth, be patient.
