WATCH: Illawarra Mercury sports journalists Agron Latifi and Jordan Warren discuss all things Dragons, Group 7, Illawarra Rugby, Wolves, and Illawarra Premier League.
Transcript
00:00 Hello and happy Monday. Jordan Warren here, Agron Latifi from the Illawarra Mercury and
00:04 there was plenty of winter sport over the weekend. Agron, what was your pick of it?
00:08 Obviously, the Group 7 started and the Illawarra Rugby as well.
00:11 Yeah, both of them. I was at the Illawarra Rugby on a Saturday and what a game I was
00:16 at. Rating Premier's, Shoalhaven, won it two years in a row, won 24 games on the trot,
00:22 up against Tamrox at Ocean Park. Tamrox looked like pulling off a major upset, 97 seconds
00:30 to go, bad man Steven Brandon shows up, wins the game for Shoalhaven, 25 wins on the trot.
00:37 What a massive effort, what a club. It's early in the season, the first round, but
00:42 they're going to take a lot of beating Shoalhaven. They're definitely going to take a lot of
00:46 beating.
00:46 Yeah, no, it would have been a massive upset in round one and also the Group 7 Rugby League
00:52 started. Of course, it was meant to start last weekend, a false start, but of course
00:55 that wet weather event put a halt to that. Where were you on the weekend, mate?
00:58 I was at the Battle of Shoalhaven, the Sharks versus Stingrays and what a game to go to.
01:05 The Sharks won, so they got bragging rights until they met again. It was a typical derby,
01:12 typical like derby, physical. It had been the first game of the season, although it
01:17 was the second round. There was a bit of errors, but definitely very physical, no begging pardons
01:24 and the Sharks got up and so did Geringong. Geringong started the season with a win. He's
01:30 really good.
01:30 Yeah, of course, the defending Grand Final champions, Geringong. Of course, we should
01:34 mention the Dragons had a good win against the Tigers last night. Gronny, what did you
01:37 make of that contest?
01:39 Yeah, I mean, it was good for the Dragons to win. It seems like the Dragons and Tigers
01:45 are pretty much in the same space at the moment, but I think the biggest talking point was
01:51 Samuel Homer.
01:51 Of course, yeah.
01:52 He had a really good game and it looks like he's going to be leaving next season and
01:59 who are they going to get to replace him?
02:02 Yeah, exactly right. Head to illawarramercury.com.au for all that news. Mitch Jennings, our rugby
02:06 league reporter, riding all the Dragons this season, doing such a great job as always.
02:10 Of course, there was football as well this weekend. The Wolves had a 2-2 draw away to
02:15 St. George and in the IPL, a couple of big results. There was a big win for Bulleye,
02:18 4-1 against Wollongong United. That was a massive statement from Julio Miranda's side
02:23 after such a slow start to the season. Of course, there was district league. The Illawarra
02:27 Women's Premier League started as well. Albion Park got a great win over defending
02:30 league champions Winoona at Ocean Park yesterday, 3-1. So a massive start to the season for
02:36 them. But as I said before, head to illawarramercury.com.au for all the latest sports news. We'll be
02:40 across everything.
