00:00A week ago, Bear Digest conducted Mock Draft 5.0 for the Bears, a look at what would happen
00:14if they selected one of the top three wide receivers with the ninth pick in the draft.
00:20Now we'll take the other tact, and that would be to draft the best available edge rusher
00:25by trading down to the middle of the first round.
00:28We'll trade back because it looks as if Dallas Turner would be drafted by the Atlanta Falcons
00:32at number eight, plus the Bears have only four picks, so they can use as many picks
00:37as they can get, and the goal will be to get a second round pick.
00:41Remember, edge rusher remains the biggest need that the Bears have in this draft.
00:47They can use another wide receiver, but they really need an edge rusher.
00:52So they trade back first, and the Bears aren't looking to go back for an extra fourth round
00:55pick like they did in last year's draft.
00:57They want a second rounder.
00:58To get it, they trade back eight spots with Jacksonville to 17, and receive a second rounder
01:04at number 48 and a sixth rounder.
01:06The Bears are on the clock with Bear Digest Mock Draft 5.1.
01:12Round one, number one, Caleb Williams.
01:14The passing game suddenly should look more like an NFL attack instead of like a 1990s
01:19college offense.
01:20He'll hold the ball, it's true, but he's doing it to find someone downfield and not to run.
01:25He also, though, is a threat to scramble.
01:30Round one, number 17, defensive end Liatou Latou of UCLA.
01:35There are enough edge rushers available for a higher quality one to be there in the middle
01:38of the round, and Latou has 23 sacks in two years.
01:41It doesn't get much better than that in college football.
01:44He's much more sound technically than the other three top edge rushers are, Dallas Turner,
01:48Jared Verson, Chop Robinson.
01:51He had a health issue with his neck injury.
01:54That's ancient history now.
01:55At a younger age, he was a rugby player.
01:57He's 6'4 3 1⁄4", 259 pounds.
02:01He ran a 4.64 in the 40.
02:05Round two, number 48, wide receiver Keon Coleman from Florida State.
02:09The Bears still get one of the better receivers in the draft even after they get their edge
02:12rusher, and it's because they traded back eight spots.
02:16He ran only a 4.61 in the 40, but is an X-type receiver at 6'3 3 1⁄4", 213, and with
02:24a 38 edge vertical leap.
02:26He had 115 catches for 1,506 yards and 19 touchdowns at Florida State.
02:34Next the Bears trade again.
02:35They want a few more picks for depth because that last time that we had the mock draft,
02:39they only had four picks.
02:41They send the 75th pick to Tampa Bay for the 89th pick in round three, and also fourth
02:46and sixth round picks.
02:49Round three, number 89, center Cedric Von Prang-Grager from Georgia.
02:54They address their center issue long-term with Georgia's linemen.
02:57He'll need some experience and a tougher position to master, so in the meantime, they have Coleman,
03:02Shelton, or Ryan Bates to play there first.
03:04A 6'4", 298 pounder, he can move out on the wide zone or be in a gap scheme.
03:11Round four, number 122, tight end Cade Stover from Ohio State, a former defensive player
03:16who converted to offense and is a physical athletic player.
03:20He made 82 receptions for 1,058 yards and 10 touchdowns.
03:25He meets a need for a third tight end that the Bears had after free agency ended.
03:30Round four, number 125, defensive tackle McKinley Jackson from Texas A&M.
03:36This is with the pick that they acquired in the trade.
03:39Jackson is not an ideal fit to play a three technique.
03:42He's more the nose tackle.
03:44He isn't really a pass rusher, but at 6'1 1⁄4", 326 pounds, he is an excellent run stopper.
03:51Neither Jervon Dexter nor Zach Pickens graded out as a strong run stopper last year as rookies,
03:57and that's for sure.
03:58He can play either tackle spot.
04:01Round six, number 212, safety Omar Brown from Nebraska.
04:05This is a versatile defensive back who played more slot and cornerback than safety.
04:10At 6'1", 200 pounds, he also is a strong special teams player.
04:15He had made nine interceptions for Nebraska and his first school, Northern Iowa.
04:22Round six, number 220, the final pick, tackle Andrew Coker from Texas Christian, 6'7", 315.
04:29He has 34 1⁄2 inch arms and could move to guard, but probably at that size, he'd be
04:34more ideal to be a tackle, a project type for the line and for depth.
04:39That's it, a draft with more numbers and one that addresses the defensive end spot
04:43first with quality, but doesn't lose a lot of quality at receiver.
