00:00O.J. Simpson has died at the age of 76. Did his final social media posts hint that he knew his
00:06time was running short, or did they suggest otherwise? Though Simpson was found not guilty
00:11of the murders of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ron Goldman in his
00:15highly publicized 1995 trial, he still had plenty of troubles, both legal and personal,
00:21that plagued him for the remainder of his life. Notably, the outcome of a subsequent
00:25civil trial in 1997 ended with him being found liable for the wrongful death of Goldman and
00:30the Battery of Brown. He was ordered by the court to pay $33,500,000 in total to the victims'
00:36families. This was a hard hit for him financially, resulting in him defaulting on his mortgage that
00:41same year and ultimately losing his mansion. Then, after attempting an armed robbery in a
00:46Las Vegas casino in 2007, he was sentenced to 33 years in prison with the eligibility of parole
00:52in nine years. He served nearly nine and was released on parole on October 1, 2017.
00:58I wish this would have never happened. If I would have made a better judgment
01:03back then, none of this would have happened."
01:06And not too many years later, his health took a turn for the worst. In May of 2023,
01:11Simpson took to ex, formerly Twitter, and told his 870,000 followers,
01:16In recent years, really recent years, I unfortunately caught cancer."
01:24Though he didn't share exactly what type of cancer he had been diagnosed with,
01:27he did share that he had taken to smoking marijuana to help him combat the side effects
01:31of chemotherapy. After saying that he was over the chemo and that the marijuana had
01:35helped him deal with the ensuing nausea, he said,
01:38And I'm healthy now. It looks like I beat it. I'm happy about that."
01:46We didn't hear much more about it until February 2024, when it was announced that
01:50he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer and was once again going through chemotherapy
01:54treatments. As of this video, it's unclear whether this specific diagnosis was related
01:59to his first bout of cancer or if it was something new. On February 9,
02:03Simpson took to social media to respond. Rather than addressing his cancer diagnosis directly,
02:07he focused on the idea that some people purportedly believed he needed hospice care.
02:12After laughing incredulously at the idea of hospice, he referenced former President Donald
02:16Trump and said,
02:18I don't know who put that out there, but whoever put that out there,
02:21I guess it's, like, for Donald's sake. Can't trust the media."
02:25Simpson made another video two days later, his final message before his death was announced.
02:30Expressing gratitude to well-wishers, Simpson said,
02:34My health is good. I mean, obviously, I'm dealing with some issues,
02:38but, hey, I think I'm just about over it."
02:41Then, rather than provide any more info on his cancer battle, the former NFL player instead
02:46went on to predict that the San Francisco 49ers would win the 2024 Super Bowl 24-20.
02:52Hey, God bless, take care, and I hope your team win, if that your team is the 49ers."
02:59Although he came close on the score, the Kansas City Chiefs won 25-22.
03:03There are many ways to cope with a cancer diagnosis, and neither Simpson nor his lawyer
03:07divulged any details after the reports of prostate cancer. However, looking at the
03:12information in hindsight, it seems the situation was more serious than Simpson let on. His outward
03:17positivity during those last months isn't that strange of a thing, though. It's common practice
03:21for celebrities and normal people alike to remain positive, even when things are getting increasingly
03:27dire.
