00:00 When I get the phone call at, I think it was 10 to 2,
00:04 and I'm being told seven to eight people have killed somebody in the street in Shrewsbury,
00:07 I know that that is out of the ordinary for us.
00:12 Five men convicted of killing a DPD worker in Shrewsbury
00:17 have been jailed for a total of more than 100 years.
00:20 But the biggest news is perhaps that the police investigation is nowhere near complete.
00:27 As I've said to my team, we're at half time.
00:31 We're 5-0 up in football parlance, but we've got a second half to go.
00:37 And until we get the others, I won't be satisfied.
00:41 A judge jailed four black country men for life on Friday
00:45 following the murder of Alman Singh in August last year.
00:48 A fifth man was also locked up for manslaughter.
00:52 The DPD driver had been brutally attacked by two gangs
00:57 while delivering parcels in Berwick Avenue.
00:59 Arshdeep Singh, Shivdeep Singh, Manjoh Singh and Jagdeep Singh
01:04 are now all serving life in prison.
01:07 And it's all thanks to an incredibly efficient police investigation.
01:10 It was helped by a solo officer in Staffordshire
01:14 who made a split second decision to follow one of the cars involved,
01:18 leading to the discovery of evidence.
01:21 We had the really welcome intervention from Staffordshire Police.
01:24 I can't underplay that enough because that cop was excellent on the day.
01:28 He was single-crooned.
01:29 Knowing that a murder offence had occurred,
01:33 he took it upon himself to follow that car,
01:36 coordinate the resources and ultimately resulted in the arrest.
01:39 The convicted killers were in the UK illegally after overstaying on their visas.
01:45 Then we got liaised with immigration because they're all overstayers
01:49 and illegal immigrants.
01:54 So they're all illegal?
01:56 Apart from Submandeep.
01:57 So we've got to try and understand that aspect of it.
02:00 Police know who the others involved in the murder are
02:02 and they're still pursuing them.
02:04 It didn't all fall into our laps in day one.
02:08 This event happened on Monday
02:11 and I think at the weekend we were still trying to piece together
02:14 who actually was in the other car.
02:18 And that process took over a week.
02:21 As I say, it's just down to attention to detail
02:24 and checking what you've got, double-checking it
02:29 in order to try and establish the true identity of those that were involved.
02:37 And eventually, after I'd say at least a week, we managed to get there.
02:40 But in terms of what we've achieved to date, yeah, I'm really satisfied.
02:46 It's a true, well, it reflects the amount of effort that the team have put into it
02:50 and it gives the family a little bit of reassurance
02:56 that we've taken everything seriously.
02:57 But it also enables them to start then moving on in terms of their grief process.
03:02 The investigation is clearly half a job well done, but it's not over yet.
