00:00 Faced with a persistent drought, the hospitality industry in the French Eastern Pyrenees is
00:06 making some big changes. New hotels built over the next six years will be designed to
00:12 save and reuse water, and there'll be fewer bathtubs.
00:15 "Here we have a suite in which we have both the Italian shower and the bathtub, in which
00:21 we are committed to removing the tap from tomorrow."
00:24 Even water used for swimming pool maintenance will be reused.
00:28 "When we clean the filter, the water goes directly into the rainwater system and tomorrow
00:34 it will be collected in a tank in the technical room and we will use it for the plants, to
00:38 clean all the areas of this pool."
00:40 The region has been in drought for the past three years. The soil is dry and so are the
00:46 rivers. Tourism operators have signed a charter containing around 30 conservation measures.
00:53 "The new hotels that are being built and will be built until 2030 will put in place
00:59 in this charter, a system for the recovery of shower water to put in the toilets. Well
01:03 yes, we stop using tap water."
01:06 The measures go as far to include a ban on bath plugs and ice buckets.
01:11 Merci.
