Reports of explicit images and flirtatious messages being sent to MPs as part of an alleged sexting scam are “incredibly troubling”, Treasury minister Gareth Davies said. Conservative MP William Wragg said on Thursday he was “manipulated” into giving personal phone numbers of colleagues to a man he met on a gay dating app, after he had sent intimate pictures of himself. 00:00 This is an incredibly troubling and serious matter. William Wragg has rightly apologised
00:07 for the action that he took under what can only have been an incredibly difficult situation.
00:12 I think to anybody watching this, if you feel that you're in a position where you're being
00:18 compromised or blackmailed, that is a matter for the police and that should be reported.
00:23 There are robust resources in place through the Parliamentary Security Department that
00:27 provides both awareness training for members of Parliament and staff, but also has the
00:34 resources to monitor any potential threat and cyber attacks, which unfortunately has
00:39 been increasingly prevalent over the last few years from both hostile states and individuals,
00:45 and so it's right that we have the resources in place. But ultimately, every MP, every
00:49 individual has a responsibility to act appropriately when it comes to personal data and certainly
00:55 the data of other people.
