7.5% of Bridges in 'Poor' Condition
The collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore after a freight ship collision has brought more attention to the state of bridges here in the U.S., and thousands could be at risk of a similar disaster.
According to the American Society of Civil Engineers, 46 thousand bridges, or roughly 7.5 Percent, are currently in 'poor' condition. While a 'poor' rating doesn't mean these bridges are unsafe, the organization says they need investment to update and maintain their infrastructure.
