00:00 Congress leader Rahul Gandhi geared up for the Lok Sabha elections today as he took out
00:13 a roadshow in Kerala's Wayanad, a constituency where he secured a resounding victory back
00:20 in 2019 parliamentary polls, clinching over 4 lakh votes.
00:24 A multitude of his party faithfuls and supporters thronged to the street to rally behind their
00:29 leader today.
00:30 Accompanied by his sister Priyanka Gandhi and All India Congress Committee General Secretaries
00:35 K C Vinogopal and Deepa Das Munshi, alongside the leader of opposition of the state assembly
00:41 BD Satishan and KPPCC President MM Hassan, Rahul Gandhi today embarked on a vibrant procession
00:50 through the heart of the Wayanad.
00:52 The Congress leader today filed his nomination with a large supporting crowd behind him,
00:56 showing his strong presence in the constituency.
01:00 Congress party with this particular act undoubtedly showed its strength to the opposition parties
01:06 in Kerala and eventually because he is the face of the Congress party for fighting elections,
01:12 actually whole India he showed his presence via this act.
01:16 However this time Wayanad can be a problem for Rahul Gandhi.
01:21 Why do we say so?
01:22 Well Annie Raja, the Communist Party candidate for the Lok Sabha seat from Wayanad has also
01:28 filed her nomination on the same day.
01:31 And this is despite the fact that CPI, that is the Communist Party of India is a part
01:36 of the India Alliance.
01:38 The CPI, a constituent of the left ruling Democratic Front LDF in Kerala is in direct
01:43 contention with the Congress in state despite their alliance in the national level under
01:49 the India bloc.
01:50 So the contest in Wayanad has taken on significance due to its rivalry between CPI and the Congress
01:56 in Kerala.
01:57 Although allies on the national front, the two parties are set to lock in a fierce battle
02:02 in this constituency.
02:04 The decision of Rahul Gandhi to contest against Annie Raja has drawn criticism from various
02:08 quarters including Kerala Chief Minister Pindarai Vijayan himself.
02:13 The Kerala CM addressing media ahead of the Lok Sabha campaign had watched his reservations
02:17 about Rahul Gandhi's choice for constituency despite the fact that CPI had demanded this
02:23 seat particularly.
02:25 He questioned the rationale behind Rahul Gandhi's decision to contest against Annie Raja, a
02:29 prominent left leader nationally because she takes a direct contest against BJP.
02:35 Annie Raja has been known for keeping a strong stance against the BJP government policies
02:39 notably on issues like CAA and Manipur crisis and so she has earned her acclaim as a vocal
02:44 critic of the ruling regime.
02:47 Also the electoral battle is further complicated in Wayanad due to presence of BJP which has
02:53 fielded state president K. Surendran for the NDA alliance.
02:58 The party BJP has historically been absent from Kerala but it is hopeful to get a few
03:03 votes this time.
03:05 Also the BJP plans to encircle and question Rahul Gandhi on his hopes to win election
03:10 despite the fact that he has still not decided.
03:14 Two candidates from Amethi and Raibarili which were once considered strongest seat for the
03:19 Congress party in North India.
03:22 The uncertainty regarding the candidate selection on these seats is also raising question whether
03:27 they are hopeful of a victory or not.
03:30 And so in the lead up of this Lok Sabha election the contest in Wayanad this time promises
03:34 to be a closely watched affair as Rahul Gandhi and Annie Raja lock horns for political supremacy
03:41 but the question of Amethi still lingers.
