Rome unveils plans for a new archaeological path through the heart of city

00:07 on Tuesday in Rome. The winner of an international competition to create the new pedestrian walkway
00:12 in the heart of the Italian capital through the Roman forums was announced in the presence
00:16 of both the capital s mayor and Italy s culture minister. An Italian architecture firm s project
00:23 was chosen among 23 other proposals by the jury as they said it best responded to all requirements,
00:30 including the visitors proximity to the archaeological monuments.
00:34 The aim in fact is to provide a better understanding of this area to all, as Rome s mayor explains.
00:41 The project will cost around 18 million euros and it s one of the largest investments for an
01:10 archaeological site in the capital. Security and overcrowding are among the challenges sites like
01:16 this one could face, but according to Italy s culture minister, lessons learned from previous
01:22 experiences will be crucial. With the Colosseum recording a 24% increase in visitors in 2023
01:48 compared to the previous year, the popularity of this new project seems assured.
