00:36 Good morning, Doc.
00:37 Good morning, Audrey and Dian, and to our RSP.
00:41 [Filipino language]
00:52 [Filipino language]
01:12 Okay.
01:13 [Filipino language]
01:19 So, there are different kinds of dermatitis.
01:22 We have contact dermatitis, which is common.
01:25 We have atopic dermatitis.
01:27 Atopic dermatitis and contact dermatitis are common.
01:31 We also have seborrheic dermatitis, where we can see flakes on the head.
01:37 Numbular dermatitis and dyshydrotic dermatitis, which is reddish and itching in the hands.
01:44 Okay, Doctor, what are the possible causes of skin disease dermatitis, aside from the ones you mentioned earlier?
01:52 So, our causes can be genetics, it's in your family history that you have an allergy.
01:59 Environmental factors, like heat, or our swimming in our beaches,
02:06 or the immune system reaction, our immune system is a bit weak,
02:11 stress, and bacterial and fungal infections, and we also have dry skin.
02:17 Oh, it looks like we are vulnerable now because it's summer, right?
02:23 Doc Lala, a lot of people go to the beach, it's a bit sunny.
02:27 So, is it very common, Doc, that you get skin disease when you swim under the sun?
02:35 Is that so, Doc?
02:38 Yes, especially if you have a strong family history of allergies when you swim in the sea.
02:45 Because sometimes, because the weather is so hot, you can get sunburned in the sea,
02:49 and we know that the sea is salty, so it can cause skin irritation.
02:54 We can notice that it's reddish, itching, and it can form rashes.
03:00 Okay, what are the differences, Doctor, between the common rashes of dermatitis?
03:06 So, dermatitis is really a term for inflammation, for rashes.
03:12 So, what we call contact dermatitis, these are skin allergies that you get when you touch,
03:19 let's say, you wash dishes or you wash your face,
03:23 you suddenly get rashes, that's atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis.
03:29 Atopic dermatitis is usually in your generation, you suddenly get small bumps, itchiness,
03:38 you can get scabbing, and you can notice that there are rashes, blisters.
03:45 So, those are some of the symptoms that you should be aware of, Doc.
03:50 So, once you see those symptoms, itchiness, rashes, what should you do?
03:57 Is there a first aid that you can do or a remedy?
04:02 If you're at home, if you're just starting, number one, you need a mild cleanser to clean,
04:10 because if you use harsh soap, it can cause irritation.
04:15 And number two, what we always say is to keep your skin moisturized.
04:20 You should have a lotion or cream that is not that thick to give moisture to our skin.
04:28 Or we can buy over-the-counter anti-itch cream.
04:32 We also have oral anti-histamines that we can take.
04:36 Number one, you really need to take a bath because the heat now, the sweat,
04:43 that can cause dermatitis now.
04:46 There you go. There are over-the-counter creams that you can use.
04:50 But the ones that we have grown, like toothpaste, ice, is that effective, Doctor?
04:56 Actually, putting ice can help to reduce itchiness.
05:03 But make sure that before you put ice on your skin, you should have a soap first.
05:07 Because it can introduce infections to the skin if we use ice.
05:15 Okay.
05:16 And for toothpaste, I have a lot of patients who have burns.
05:21 So I do not recommend putting toothpaste on your skin because it can irritate the skin.
05:27 Ah, okay.
05:28 You know that now, right, Adrienne?
05:30 This is summer, of course, what can happen to our skin is sunburn.
05:36 Sometimes, if you put on sunblock, you can't avoid it, you'll still get tanned.
05:41 It will still have an effect on your skin. What is your advice here, Doctor?
05:45 This sunburn is very common, especially for children.
05:50 You can see that the skin is really tanned and there are blisters.
05:54 So putting on sunscreen can still help.
05:58 But if you are going out and you are going to the beach,
06:01 the minimum I recommend is SPF 50.
06:06 We also have oral sunscreens in the market that can also help.
06:11 It's an added protection for our skin.
06:15 And if you have sunburn, what we can do is apply topicals like aloe vera gel.
06:22 It can also help the skin.
06:23 Like this.
06:25 We can apply aloe vera gel.
06:27 Aloe vera gel. Is this after you put on sunscreen or before?
06:31 It's better after you put on sunscreen.
06:35 So before you put on sunscreen, you should apply sunscreen.
06:38 And then you reapply it every two hours.
06:41 After you put on sunscreen, you can take a bath, use a good soap,
06:47 and then moisturizer.
06:48 Put on aloe vera gel.
06:51 There are already over-the-counter products available in the market.
06:54 I hope that the tips of the doctor helped our fellow countrymen.
06:59 Even after the Holy Week, there are still people planning to go to tourist destinations.
07:06 Of course, because of the hot weather, we can't avoid sunburn.
07:11 Thank you very much for giving us a lot of information about skin disease dermatitis.
07:16 Dr. Drola Sanchez, a dermatologist.
07:19 Thank you again.
07:20 I'm at Pluto.
