Minister ‘confident’ govt will deliver childcare expansion

The Education Secretary says she is "confident" that the Government will deliver its pledge to expand funded childcare for working families in England. Gillian Keegan says the Government is "on track" to deliver the first phase of its rollout next week to 150,000 working parents of two-year-olds. The cabinet minister also warns the Labour Party could put the expansion plan "at risk" if it wins the forthcoming general election. Report by Blairm. 00:00 I will deliver what we've promised. We are on track to deliver for 150,000 parents starting next week.
00:08 But what is most important, what's the biggest threat and the biggest uncertainty of this policy
00:12 is Labour have confirmed that they will cancel this free childcare.
00:17 Over 100,000 parents have already signed up. We're on track to have 150,000 by next week.
00:23 All of those parents are expecting to save up to £6,900 per year on their childcare arrangements.
00:30 Some of them are planning families, some of them are planning to start new jobs,
00:34 some of them are planning to increase their hours or take on a promotion.
00:38 All of that is put at risk and all of that is uncertain because Labour have said they will not
00:43 continue and back our rollout of this free childcare offer which is very, very popular amongst working parents.
00:49 But we feel confident that not only will we be able to deliver this service, but this service will also
00:56 provide great business prospects for many, either to grow their business or even enter the business.
