00:16 Tamea Nagy will enjoy a fairly substantial height advantage
00:20 over Vanessa Lepage-Joannis,
00:22 with just a two-inch reach advantage.
00:25 Lepage-Joannis, a former heavyweight title challenger,
00:29 fought Alejandro Jimenez for the WBC title back in 2017.
00:36 Following that, Lepage-Joannis, not long after it,
00:40 was in a car accident and after that,
00:43 took some time away from the sport.
00:45 A five-year absence away.
00:48 Lepage-Joannis says that she was 315 pounds at one point,
00:54 now fights somewhere between 175 and 310 pounds.
00:58 Between 175 and 178.
01:00 Rededicated herself to the sport and to fitness,
01:03 and now she believes is just a few steps away
01:06 from challenging for a heavyweight title again.
01:09 Corey, I figured out something about the reach statistics
01:12 that we're seeing on the tails of the tape.
01:15 That is actually arm length.
01:17 That is the armpit to the end of the fist measurement.
01:21 So in that context, two inches is actually a lot.
01:24 It's quite a bit.
01:26 Whether Nagy is fast enough to do anything about it
01:29 is something different.
01:31 There's a speed disparity here.
01:33 It's evident even this early in the fight.
01:35 Shot over the top there from Lepage-Joannis,

01:45 She has a tendency to push her punches.
01:47 She's long, she's very strong,
01:49 but does not get a ton of leverage on her punches.
01:53 And that might be a problem for her here tonight,
01:55 because if she can't get Joannis' respect,

04:17 is very much working against Tamea Nagy,
04:20 particularly with how straight up she stands.
04:23 - With how straight up she stands,
04:24 and that does tend to negate the reach advantage.
04:28 And because Lopaz Joanis is so aggressive and so fast
04:32 and so crafty getting inside,
04:33 again, if Nagy does not punch with leverage,
04:38 can't land something crisp and solid
04:41 to get Lopaz Joanis' respect,
04:42 she's gonna have problems over these six rounds.
04:44 - She's eating some heavy shots to the body right now
04:48 as Lopaz Joanis just banging away downstairs.

04:59 certainly not the deepest in the sport,
05:01 but it's starting to produce some more interesting names.

05:11 if that fight could potentially materialize.

05:22 for how she wants to get inside
05:23 and what she wants to do when she gets there,
05:25 whereas Nagy does not seem to have much of a plan
05:27 besides being big and long to keep Lopaz Joanis on the outside.

06:05 but short-arming a series of jabs,

13:34 One thing we definitely saw in the last round,
13:37 particularly when you slow things down
13:39 and look at the highlights, Morgan,
13:41 is just how uncomfortable Nagy is
13:44 with the physicality that Vanessa La Page of Joannès
13:47 is bringing, and you think about the 15-plus years
13:51 that Tameya Nagy spent in the adult amateurs,
13:54 so to speak. - Yes.
13:55 - It's just a very different type of physicality
13:57 that you're gonna encounter. - Right.
13:59 - And she just does not seem at ease with it right now.
14:01 - It's a different type of physicality,
14:03 and honestly, you just don't find a lot of fighters
14:06 that fight like La Page of Joannès does.
14:08 Like, you can tell watching her fight,
14:10 she's watched a lot of Mike Tyson film coming up,
14:14 because she's figured out how to pair elusiveness
14:17 with aggression, get inside, do some damage,
14:20 work your angles, do some more damage.
14:22 And again, you don't see a lot of fighters like that,
14:25 male or female.
14:27 But especially, again, when we compare the fight
14:30 that Nagy had in Germany, complete opposite of this.
14:33 And if those are the fights you've been having,
14:35 it's hard to prepare for someone like La Page of Joannès.
14:38 - Yeah, the sort of tacit agreement
14:41 that we're going to box that range,
14:43 we're gonna do things neatly. - Yes.
14:45 - That's not something that La Page of Joannès
14:47 is often into here tonight.
14:49 - Just the foot speed, the aggression,
14:51 and the physical strength,
14:53 which is distinct from punching power.
14:55 La Page of Joannès puts all of that together.

15:01 And again, just this ability, this sense of when to go
15:07 to the head and how to string those together.
15:10 La Page of Joannès is getting a lot of mileage
15:14 out of that tonight.

16:13 You see her moving to her right,

16:16 trying to keep La Page of Joannès off her.
16:18 She's just trying anything--
16:21 just trying anything and trying to see what works,
16:24 because what she has done so far has not worked
16:26 in terms of giving herself some room to breathe.

16:38 Tamaya Nagy looking exhausted in the corner.
16:40 She's an avid half marathoner.
16:42 She's running 21K all the time.
16:44 This is a different kind of cardio.
16:46 - A different tempo, a different level of intensity.
16:49 Now, she's running those 21 kilometers
16:52 a quarter mile at a time, all-out sprints.
16:55 That would be something different.
16:56 That would be more akin to what she's being asked to do right here.

17:07 And Nagy has offered up a couple of futile uppercuts
17:10 here and there.
17:13 But as we pointed out,
17:14 just does not have too many answers on the inside.
17:18 Around round two, she landed a couple short shots,
17:21 but is just being physically overwhelmed by La Page of Joannès.
17:25 - And just with the pace La Page of Joannès is setting,
17:27 it's so hard to keep up.
17:30 Unless you can hit her hard enough
17:32 to get her to change her pace.
17:34 And Nagy has not been able to do that.
17:37 - That left hook a moment ago from La Page of Joannès
17:40 made Nagy back up to the ropes.
17:42 And La Page of Joannès may be seeing something here.
17:45 - That overhand right, finishing with the left hook.
17:49 Nagy has no--has had no answers for that all night.
17:55 - Well, she's given La Page of Joannès no reason
17:57 to take anything off her shots.
17:58 La Page of Joannès is just throwing heat nonstop.

18:08 It's been a really impressive performance from her so far.

19:04 Nagy absorbed a lot of punishment in this fight, Morgan.
19:09 Only touched the canvas once, you know,
19:11 a little bit of a debatable knockdown,
19:14 although I'm sure we'll get a closer look at it
19:16 a little bit later.
19:17 But Nagy, as we've talked about, just ran into an opponent
19:21 who was not going to obey the type of boxing
19:24 that I think Nagy was gonna be comfortable with here tonight.
19:27 - Yes, and who was determined, but not just determined,
19:29 but had a game plan, and not just had a game plan,
19:31 but also had technique, and knew how to implement that game plan.
19:34 That was just a lot for Nagy to have to deal with.
19:37 Again, the fight we saw her have in Germany
19:39 kind of took place at Nagy's pace and Nagy's range.
19:45 And La Paz Joanis was just not letting her have any of that.
19:49 - La Paz Joanis with her promoter, Camila Estefan.
19:59 And similar to what we talked about with Steve Klaget,
20:02 Eye of the Tiger willing to take a chance
20:04 on La Paz Joanis coming off a five-year layoff,
20:07 and now may have her a step or two away
20:10 from fighting for a women's heavyweight title.
20:12 - Well, this is the beauty of the women's divisions,
20:15 is that you have elite fighters, you have everyone else.
20:19 So even if you lose a fight, like the road back to a title fight,
20:22 if you are elite, it is not a very long one.
20:25 You go right back into the mix.
20:27 - Looks like we are ready with the decision
20:32 as we send it back down to the center of the ring.
