00:00 The Sarawak State Government should back KK Mart.

00:05 This is what Parti Bumi Kenyalang President Voon Lee Shan said in a statement today following

00:09 the recent controversy about the sale of socks bearing the word "Allah" at a KK Mart store.

00:15 Voon said, seeing that the founder, KK Chai, is Sarawakian, the state government must intervene

00:20 to ensure the controversy would not ruin the brand.

00:23 The state government must see to it that KK Mart is supported by the Sarawak administration

00:27 to help the brand expand in West Malaysia, he said.

00:31 Voon described KK Mart as Sarawak's "business ambassador," which the state should not lose

00:35 as it did with its local banks in the late 1990s.

00:39 He also said the police should not allow politicians and activists to stir up hate against the

00:42 convenience store chain as it could affect the economy and cause workers to lose their

00:47 jobs.

00:48 Voon's statement comes a day after former UPCO President Wilfred Matthew Stanggau called

00:52 Ansaba and Sarawak to take action to avoid being dragged down by divisive issues prevalent

00:57 in Peninsular Malaysia.
