00:02 My mother was the one that I had almost the most trauma
00:05 about, interestingly enough.

00:10 The 47 year old son of Goldie Hawn
00:12 and brother to Kate Hudson,
00:14 got candid on a recent episode
00:15 of his sibling Reverly podcast
00:17 about how he felt unprotected at times
00:18 growing up with his A-list mom.
00:21 - My mother was the one that I had almost the most trauma
00:23 about, interestingly enough,
00:25 because she was my primary caregiver.
00:28 And I was with her all of the time.
00:30 So I felt unprotected at times.
00:34 - Oliver then shared that while Goldie
00:35 was an amazing mother,
00:36 she had a lot going on between her A-list career
00:38 to romantic relationships,
00:40 while balancing her role as the constant parent in his life.
00:42 - She would be working in a way,
00:44 or she had new boyfriends that I didn't really like.
00:46 She would, she'd be living her life
00:48 and she was an amazing mother.
00:50 This was my own perception as a child
00:52 who didn't have a dad and who needed her to be there,
00:55 you know, and she just wasn't sometimes.
00:58 And she came out far more than even my dad who wasn't there.
01:03 But when I was with him, it was incredible.
01:06 He paid attention to me.
01:07 We played football.
01:08 We played basketball.
01:09 We were on the beach.
01:10 He took me on a tour. - Fishing.
01:11 - We had a fish.
01:12 I mean, he was so present,
01:13 but he just was never there.
01:15 You know what I mean?
01:17 - Goldie split from Oliver and Kate's biological father,
01:19 Bill Hudson, in the early eighties.
01:21 She and long-time partner Kurt Russell
01:22 have now been together for over 40 years.
01:24 And the actor is known as Pa to the famous siblings.
01:27 The podcast host had revealed in the episode
01:29 that he analyzed his childhood
01:30 due to attending a week-long course
01:32 called the Hoffman Institute,
01:33 which focused on unpacking patterns
01:35 from his parents and step-parents.
01:37 - So this course was all about understanding
01:40 what those patterns were
01:42 and kind of learning how to break through them
01:45 and kind of building your toolbox.
01:48 It's an incredible week of enlightenment
01:50 on who your parents were, are,
01:55 the forgiveness and the compassion
01:56 that you feel towards them at the end of this process
01:58 is unbelievable because then you realize
02:01 that they're only repeating the (beep)
02:03 that they went through, you know, with their parents.
02:07 The forgiveness of my father was huge
02:09 because his dad left him when he was five years old
02:12 in the middle of the night, gone, you know?
02:14 My dad didn't do exactly that,
02:15 but essentially he bailed, you know?
