00:06 a college in the UK, despite the Health Ministry declaring that these groups of doctors could

00:11 apply for gazettement as specialists.

00:13 However, MMC President Dr Radzi Abu Hassan said they have been made aware of issues related

00:19 to these cardiothoracic surgeons who graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh,

00:25 which falls under the Health Ministry's Parallel Pathway Programme.

00:29 Radzi, who is also the Health Director General, said a task force has been set up to resolve

00:35 the issue.

00:36 On March 19, the Ministry said cardiothoracic surgeons qualifying from the college could

00:41 apply to be gazetted as specialists.

00:44 Also eligible for gazettement are family medicine specialists from the Royal Australian College

00:48 of General Practitioners and the Irish College of General Practitioners, as well as plastic

00:53 surgeons from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.

00:58 Two days ago, senior doctors claimed the MMC rejected the applications of some eight cardiothoracic

01:03 surgeons and 100 family medicine specialists trained under the Parallel Pathway Programme

01:08 for listing in the National Specialist Register, despite repeated requests from the Health

01:13 Ministry to do so.

01:15 They warned that the refusal to recognise these specialists will have serious impact

01:19 on hospitals under the Ministry and that it was going to be catastrophic as there are

01:24 only 14 cardiothoracic surgeons in seven public hospitals now.
