00:00 Rush hour in Raynham driven to breaking point.
00:03 Road closures and a two-way system along the High Street
00:07 while SGN are repairing gas leaks
00:10 are now causing significant delays for commuters.
00:13 As you can see behind me, the roadworks here at the top of Holding Street
00:17 are causing some serious disruption.
00:19 Traffic gridlocked, backing up both sides of the High Street
00:23 compounded by even more roadworks around Raynham.
00:27 The Holding Street closures are just one of several
00:30 that have impacted Raynham in recent weeks
00:32 with Pump Lane and Lower Raynham Road
00:35 just having reopened today after being closed
00:38 since the beginning of March.
00:40 This disruption means traffic is being backed down
00:43 or diverted into busy commuter routes
00:46 like Berengrave Lane or Station Road.
00:48 For some residents who have lived in the area for more than a decade
00:52 this disruption has had a significant impact
00:55 on how they live their lives.
00:57 You decide, well, I'll walk instead of trying to drive
00:59 which is fine if you can walk or you're not going that far.
01:02 Again, people are saying, "Oh, I'll take my dog for a walk
01:05 "but I get to the park quicker than I would if I was in the car
01:07 "just walking past the traffic."
01:10 It's ridiculous.
01:11 People are taking half an hour to do a five-minute journey.
01:16 People are reporting that, you know, they've set off to go to work
01:19 at the normal time and they're two hours late.
01:22 All sorts of ridiculous things.
01:24 And that's just getting along the length of these smaller side roads.
01:27 One of the businesses being impacted is Hales & Moore Fishmongers
01:32 just up Station Road.
01:34 It's definitely making it very difficult, I would say.
01:38 You know, you can only look out there.
01:40 You know, they're queuing constantly, not only here on the top road,
01:45 holding streets now shut as well.
01:47 Even our family is trying to get to and from to work.
01:53 And people coming into us, people coming from Darlan,
01:57 which is five minutes up the road, and they're not bothering.
02:01 So, you know, understandably, if you're going to sit in traffic
02:04 for half an hour to do a two- or three-minute journey,
02:07 you're not going to do it.
02:08 For others in Raynham, it's the small things
02:11 that are getting them worked up over roadworks.
02:14 What is normally just a quick two-minute drive from my house into work
02:19 tends to be five or ten minutes.
02:20 Now, it's not a massive impact, but if you consider,
02:24 normally I could just drive and roll straight into work,
02:27 but now I tend to get stuck on the A2,
02:30 where everyone's kind of, you know, congested.
02:34 SGN say they're aiming to complete their repairs to the gas leak
02:37 on Holding Street as quickly as possible,
02:40 and they apologise for any inconvenience caused.
02:43 But with no date for when these Raynham roadworks
02:45 and Holding Street will come to a close,
02:48 the commuting chaos isn't over just yet.
