00:00 From long, clamoured four comebacks being made legit, to fans having anything but a
00:04 bad feeling about a character's Force abilities, these compelling theories turned out to be
00:10 100% on the money later down the road.
00:13 The always fantasising Gareth here from WhatCulture Star Wars and here are 10 Star Wars Fan Theories
00:18 That Became Fact.
00:20 10.
00:21 Qui-Gon Returns in Force Ghost Form He may have only been around on the live-action
00:25 scene for just one rather divisive prequel outing, but that still didn't stop Liam
00:30 Neeson's maverick Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn from making one hell of an impression on this
00:34 corner of the galaxy.
00:36 And while Neeson was seemingly all too happy to return to George Lucas' world in a vocal
00:40 capacity, in the likes of the animated Clone Wars series, fans were still holding out hope
00:44 that they may one day see Obi-Wan Kenobi's master return to the live-action stage.
00:49 With news of said eventual Ben finally being gifted his own titular spin-off series on
00:54 Disney+ then, came a reigniting of said hope as fans pitched numerous potential scenarios
00:59 that could result in Jinn showing up, and perhaps as more than just a voiceover cameo.
01:04 Sure enough, in the closing stages of the first season and after spending much of the
01:07 show trying to reach out to his fallen master, Neeson's Qui-Gon made himself known to Kenobi,
01:12 only this time via Force Ghost.
01:14 And in something of a meta-utterance, his stating that "it took you long enough"
01:18 was an opinion likely shared by many of those watching at home.
01:21 9.
01:22 Finn is Force-sensitive Early on, it seemed to be written in the stars
01:26 that Finn would play a hugely significant role in the fate of the galaxy by the time
01:30 the sequel trilogy came to a close.
01:32 And while that ultimately turned out to be disappointingly not the case, with the one-time
01:36 Stormtrooper often being sidelined in favour of more Reylo Force bonding, fans still refused
01:41 to accept that the Force wasn't strong with this particularly underserved hero.
01:45 As it goes, Finn's proficiency with a lightsaber in Episode 7 and abundance of "feelings"
01:50 in The Rise of Skywalker all eventually paved the way for the revelation that he was actually
01:55 Force-sensitive all along, as reportedly confirmed by those films' director J.J. Abrams at
02:00 a fan Q&A.
02:01 Now, sure, it still doesn't erase the fact that John Boyega was, as the actor himself
02:05 would state, pushed to the side on the back of his first showing in the sequels, but it
02:09 at least added a slightly satisfying detail to Finn's overall character that seemed
02:13 to pay off hopeful fan theories that had been prevalent throughout the ill-fated trilogy.
02:17 8.
02:18 The Man Who Created Snoke Fans had often been left pondering how the
02:21 villainous entity that was Supreme Leader Snoke came into being in the first place,
02:26 with his origins not being explicitly stated throughout his first two showings in The Force
02:29 Awakens and The Last Jedi.
02:31 So with a whole lot of downtime to dream up the scenario that gave birth to this menacing
02:35 but eventually hilariously dispatched Force user, some fans ended up landing on a theory
02:40 involving none other than an anything-but-dead Darth Sidious being the mind behind Snoke's
02:45 creation before Episode 9's release.
02:47 As hinted at in a Legends story focusing on Darth Plagueis, Sidious' former master,
02:52 the two dark side baddies conduct the grand experiment, involving the duo combining Sith
02:58 alchemy and the dark side, as they successfully influence midichlorians in a bid to produce
03:03 life.
03:04 This, along with the knowledge of Palps being known to have his own observatories across
03:07 the galaxy, made his revelation of "I created Snoke" in Rise of Skywalker very much a
03:13 fan theory come to life, with Snoke actually being a strandcast forged in a lab by Sidious.
03:19 7.
03:20 Kylo Ren Abandoned Snoke
03:21 Sticking with the one-time Supreme Leader and to a sudden end that many most definitely
03:26 did not see coming in The Last Jedi's runtime, however you can always count on a few pockets
03:30 of the Star Wars fandom sensing a disturbance in the Force a mile off.
03:35 And that was again the case when it came to Kylo Ren's turning on his one-time master
03:38 here.
03:39 As of October 2017, a few months before Episode VIII's release, Mike Zero, a known Star
03:45 Wars theorist, appeared to have figured out what the future held for the former Ben Solo
03:49 and strandcast.
03:50 In his own words when discussing the film's trailer shots showing Ren offering his hand
03:54 to what appears to be Rey, "Kylo Ren lands on Krait, he burns down the Resistance base
03:58 from within and saves his own mother Leia.
04:01 At that point he has already abandoned his master Supreme Leader Snoke."
04:05 Sure, not everything that tumbled out of Zero's mouth came to pass in the end, but Ren's
04:09 turning on Snoke before landing on Krait was about as accurate a fan theory as they come.
04:13 6.
04:14 A Familiar Stormtrooper
04:15 Star Wars fans have a funny old habit of latching onto characters that initially appear to be
04:20 little more than side players in the eyes of those forging the big-screen tales pumped
04:24 into theatres.
04:25 And that was again the case when it came to another unexpectedly awesome presence in Disney's
04:29 The Force Awakens sequel starter, with an all-around badass traitor shouting "Stormtrooper"
04:34 quickly becoming a standout for many.
04:36 So much so that fans took to affectionately naming the baton-flourishing troop TR-8R.
04:42 And despite it later being made known that his official name was actually FN-2199, with
04:46 his nickname being "Nines", the prevailing theory of this trooper and Finn actually having
04:51 known each other quite well before the latter's eventual defection would actually turn out
04:55 to be genuine canon in the end.
04:57 As it goes, the two Stormtroopers actually went through training together and even became
05:01 close chums within the same squad, as confirmed in the novel before The Awakening.
05:06 This very much adds further depth to that instantly memeable outcry, with Nines/TR-8R
05:12 feeling entirely betrayed by his one-time bud by the time they come to blows outside
05:16 of Maz Kanata's castle.
05:18 5.
05:19 Rosario Dawson Would Make for the Best Live-Action Ahsoka
05:22 Trying to figure out who should bring one of the most beloved characters ever to make
05:25 their way into the animated section of this galaxy far, far away to the party was a pretty
05:30 unenviable task when it came time to give Ahsoka Tano the live-action treatment.
05:35 Sure, given the actor who brilliantly breathed life into the one-time Jedi in the likes of
05:39 the Clone Wars and Rebels animated shows in Ashley Eckstein, a chance to strut her stuff
05:43 in the likes of The Mandalorian would have been a satisfying development for many.
05:47 But the prevailing theory was that, if Eckstein wasn't the live-action choice, then one
05:51 Rosario Dawson would most definitely fit the bill instead.
05:55 In a truly bizarre turn of events, word of fans angling to see Dawson in the role of
05:59 Tano, coupled with a piece of fan art depicting her as the beloved character, eventually made
06:04 its way to Dave Filoni before he'd even begun work on The Mandalorian.
06:08 And sure enough, when the time came to throw the character into the Mando mix, when Filoni
06:11 was asked by Jon Favreau who he would have play her, his answer of "Well, Rosario Dawson's
06:16 top of my list" set a fan-fiction ball well and truly rolling.
06:20 4.
06:21 Princess Leia is Strong with the Force From the minute it was made known that Leia
06:24 Organa was the "other" that Yoda was referencing during the Empire Strikes Back, fans had been
06:29 clamouring to see the princess turn general show off her true force potential on the big
06:33 screen.
06:34 And while Leia did seem to hint at having some force sensitivity and her ability to
06:37 sense her brother Luke, it wasn't until The Last Jedi where her real force capabilities
06:42 were highlighted for all to see.
06:44 After being blasted out of her cruiser in Episode 8, Leia is able to survive the perilous
06:48 scenario by moving herself through space via the Force, confirming that she was very much
06:53 able to hone her hinted at and often theorised abilities over the years.
06:57 It may have taken a whopping 30 years to finally come to fruition in an actual Star Wars live-action
07:02 epic, but Leia was undoubtedly a masterful Jedi in her own right by the time of The Last
07:06 Jedi, after completing her training under the guidance of her brother post-return of
07:10 the Jedi.
07:11 3.
07:12 Darth Maul Survived The Phantom Menace's primary antagonist
07:15 in Darth Maul became the subject of many a fan theory when it pertained to a much-wanted
07:20 return post-prequel death.
07:22 Many of said theories consisted of folks believing that Maul could channel his anger and fury,
07:26 combined with the dark side of the Force, to stave off what appeared to be a rather
07:30 definitive conclusion.
07:32 On the back of being chopped in two by Obi-Wan Kenobi.
07:34 And by the time the Clone Wars opted to bring back the all-round fan favourite Dathomirian,
07:39 George Lucas appeared to have definitely been keeping up with fans' love and the theories
07:42 centred around the character's fate, with his fierce hatred of Kenobi being a key factor
07:47 in Maul clinging onto life in the years following on from his Naboo bisecting.
07:52 In making up for the cutting down of an instant hit of a personality seemingly far too soon
07:56 for most, Lucas and co were eventually able to forge arguably one of the most complex
08:01 and gripping character arcs the Star Wars universe had played host to yet.
08:05 2.
08:06 Boba Fett Survived And speaking of those Star Wars characters
08:09 too damn beloved to be killed off for realsies, it was seemingly only ever a matter of time
08:13 before Lucasfilm went back on a death that was almost immediately rejected by all who
08:18 took in Return of the Jedi for the very first time.
08:21 Many even quickly took to suggesting that C-3PO's explanation of it taking 1,000 years
08:25 to be digested by the Sarlacc meant that Fett could have realistically found a way to escape
08:30 before being killed.
08:31 Boba Fett remarkably surviving his Sarlacc pit demise in said episode 6 was of course
08:36 eventually revealed in the expanded universe Tales, on the back of the bounty hunter's
08:40 comedic end receiving an understandable amount of backlash.
08:44 But Disney's acquiring of Lucasfilm and subsequent decanonising of the Legends Tales
08:48 threw Fett's fate up into the air once again before he slammed straight into the side of
08:52 a cruiser.
08:53 Only a few years on from said purchase, Boba finally made a grand return to the live-action
08:57 galaxy far, far away in The Mandalorian, with his very own Book of Boba Fett even finally
09:02 bringing said initial fan theory to life on the small screen as he flamethrowed his way
09:06 out of the beast's belly in that Disney+ spin-off.
09:09 1.
09:10 Rey's a Palpatine The overriding theory that left most fans
09:13 squabbling in their car rides home from their first viewing of The Force Awakens centred
09:17 around who in the hell Daisy Ridley's Force-sensitive Rey was related to in this galaxy far, far
09:23 away.
09:24 And while the generally accepted theories tended to revolve around Rey being either
09:27 a Skywalker or a Solo, there were still a few folks subscribing to a rather out-there
09:32 notion that the sequel's central protagonist may actually have some far more insidious
09:37 roots.
09:39 Said fans were under the impression early on that Rey was related to none other than
09:42 Emperor Palpatine himself, with the Force Awakens novelisation hinting at her being
09:47 lured towards the dark side in her first battle with Kylo Ren being interpreted by some as
09:51 insidious trying to pull his granddaughter towards the dark.
09:55 Far from being a completely unimaginable throwaway theory, however, J.J.
09:59 Abrams would ultimately follow through on said direction, revealing that Rey was actually
10:04 the daughter of Palpatine's strang-cast son.
10:06 But because this galaxy must always have a Skywalker present, apparently, Rey eventually
10:11 opts to discard her last name in favour of Luke and Leia's family moniker in the closing
10:15 stages of Episode 9.
10:17 Which went down an absolute treat with everybody, didn't it?
10:19 And that's our list!
