00:02 - Right now it's my pleasure to welcome to the stage,
00:04 I Heart Media personality, Hollywood Walk of Famer,

00:09 (audience cheering)
00:12 - L.A., hello!
00:18 (audience cheering)
00:21 It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood, right?
00:23 (audience cheering)
00:24 A damn beautiful day in the neighborhood.
00:26 First off, we wanna say good morning to everyone.
00:29 Thank you guys for being out here,
00:30 for all those that are watching as well.
00:32 Thank you, appreciate you.
00:35 Today, in the category of recording,
00:39 we are proud to honor Dr. Dre.
00:42 (audience cheering)
00:45 With star number 2,775 on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
00:50 Please help me welcome Dr. Dre!
00:54 (audience cheering)
00:58 (audience applauding)
01:01 One more time for Dr. Dre!
01:07 (audience cheering)
01:10 Soak up that moment.
01:14 - So my name is Hugo Soto Martinez.
01:16 I'm the council member of this district.
01:19 With all due respect, Snoop Dogg, this is my hood.
01:22 (audience laughing)
01:24 But I love you, brother, I love you, I love you.
01:27 What an absolute honor to be here today.
01:30 And I'll say just a personal note of why this is an honor.
01:34 I remember the first time hearing The Chronic
01:36 when I was just a nine-year-old boy
01:38 and listening to that album on Par 106 a bunch of times.
01:43 And when I was a senior, you dropped The Chronic 2001,
01:47 and I remember listening to that album that whole year.
01:50 But not only was that special,
01:52 but you brought a resurgence to West Coast hip hop
01:55 by signing Eminem, by uplifting 50 Cent,
01:58 who had his own records at the time,
02:01 I was listening to your underground stuff,
02:03 but you came up and you blew up in the West Coast.
02:05 You put us back on the map.
02:06 And so it's an absolute honor to be here
02:08 and share this stage with you.
02:10 But on behalf of the city of Los Angeles,
02:13 we'd like to give you this recognition
02:19 for all the amazing work that you've done over the years.
02:23 Congratulations, today's Dre Day.
02:26 (audience cheering)
02:54 Before you take the microphone, I got one more thing to do.
02:58 On behalf of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce,
03:02 I now declare today Dr. Dre Day in Hollywood!
03:07 (audience cheering)
03:10 I love it.
03:14 It's Dre Day, March 19th, Dre Day, okay.
03:20 I love it.
03:23 So I don't know if I need to shout out anybody
03:28 of all of my friends that are here already
03:29 because that's been said a lot of times,
03:31 so I'll just get into it.
03:33 I'd like to thank the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce
03:36 who felt that I was finally ready to walk
03:38 in the footsteps of Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent,
03:42 all of whom got stars before me for some fucking reason.
03:50 Well, don't trip, I'm not bitter.
03:52 It's all good, I'm here now, all right.
03:56 No, but in all seriousness, I love the idea
03:59 of being memorialized on a Hollywood Walk of Fame.
04:02 It's an incredible tribute to my artistry.
04:05 Growing up in Compton, I never imagined
04:07 that I would one day be represented here
04:09 amongst some of my childhood heroes.
04:11 We've heard the saying a million times before,
04:15 focus on your passion and the rest will follow,
04:17 and that's exactly what it is for me.
04:21 Pouring my whole soul and self into my passion for hip hop
04:25 led me on the pathway to an incredible career,
04:27 and I've been fortunate enough to make a living
04:30 doing exactly what I love to do.
04:33 How about that?
04:34 Isn't that the dream, right?
04:37 Yeah, and over the course of my career,
04:40 I've had the privilege of finding and nurturing
04:42 new talent as well as pushing the boundaries of hip hop,
04:45 both in content and substance.
04:48 But I'm most proud of elevating the clarity
04:51 and sound of how we experience hip hop.
04:54 Getting that thing right
04:56 is one of my greatest achievements.
04:59 You know, the clarity of hip hop.
05:02 You know, I love that this honor is unique to Los Angeles
05:05 and brings fans from all over the world to my hometown
05:08 to connect with their favorite artists.
05:10 So yeah, I'll be here forever.
05:14 (laughs)
05:16 Yeah.
05:18 I'm incredibly grateful for your support
05:20 throughout the years.
05:21 Most of us have grown up together,
05:23 and at nearly 60 years old,
05:27 you're still rocking with me,
05:29 and I really appreciate that.
05:31 Yeah, thank you so much.
05:35 Which is really good because I'm nowhere near done.
05:39 You better believe there's a lot more coming.
05:43 And I want to thank everybody that showed up here
05:45 to show support for me.
05:47 Thank you so much for coming out to represent.
05:50 I appreciate you.
05:51 Thanks a lot.
05:52 (audience cheers)
05:55 (audience applauds)
05:58 (whooshing)
