00:00 The Department of Education is now looking into the use of social media by teachers
00:06 after a teacher went viral,
00:08 who was angry at students while live on social media.
00:13 Details in Benji Durango's report.
00:16 You look so fat!
00:21 This TikTok went viral this weekend.
00:23 A teacher in a classroom was TikTok-ing live.
00:27 Her students were shocked.
00:30 You're not smart.
00:33 You're not polite.
00:35 You're not going anywhere.
00:39 I'm the one who's telling you.
00:41 DepEd's request is to not be shown on TV
00:43 to protect the so-called high school teacher in NCR.
00:47 DepEd didn't mention her name
00:50 and didn't mention the school she was teaching.
00:53 The conference is now being held at the regional office
00:55 with the viral teacher.
00:56 The regional office has issued a shock order
01:00 addressed to the concerned teacher,
01:02 giving her 72 hours to submit an explanation
01:07 why she should not be charged administratively.
01:10 So that is part of a due process.
01:12 Another one is the principal has already,
01:15 earlier on, even before the issuance of the shock order,
01:19 the principal issued a memo to her
01:22 to explain her side.
01:25 It's a shock that will last a lifetime.
01:27 Psychosocial aid was also provided
01:29 to the students who were already questioned by the teacher.
01:31 The teacher could be reprimanded,
01:34 suspended or fired from her job.
01:36 The teacher should not be seen as a victim on social media,
01:39 especially since the video clearly shows
01:41 the teacher's anger.
01:43 But the initial information that we got
01:46 is really like the teacher was prompted to speak like that
01:51 because some or a certain group of learners
01:55 in the class made remarks that are truly hurtful to her.
01:59 According to DepEd,
02:01 this is just one of the complaints received against the teachers.
02:03 Before, others would video call the teacher.
02:05 Now, the teacher herself video called her.
02:09 On TikTok Live and it went viral,
02:11 DepEd is now looking into the use of social media accounts
02:15 on teachers.
02:15 Our DepEd order is not that detailed,
02:17 but it is really a guidance to all our public school teachers
02:21 and employees to be responsible enough
02:24 in their use of their social media accounts.
02:26 You should not use your own account
02:30 to publish whatever is ongoing in class,
02:34 especially if there are children in your video
02:37 or there are faces of children in your postings
02:41 that we are really prohibiting.
02:43 DepEd is also looking into counselling
02:45 for teachers who are also going through the same thing
02:48 like the viral teacher who is already full inside.
02:52 ...of the coming month.
02:54 And it has reached its peak.
02:56 Benji Durango for Pambansang TV in Bagong, Philippines.
