00:00:07 your precious sheep. Thank you, Lord, that revelation of knowledge will flow
00:00:12 freely uninterrupted and unhindered by any satanic or demonic force.
00:00:19 And Father, I pray that you will speak through my vocal cords and think through
00:00:23 my mind, none of me and all of you, Lord. Oh, God, bless us and let us hear with
00:00:33 anointing, hearing this morning that our lives will never be the same again.
00:00:41 In Jesus' name we pray and everybody said, amen. You may be seated.
00:00:48 If you have your Bibles, go with me to the book of Galatians chapter 5 and verse 4.
00:00:57 We've been talking about what it means to fall from grace.
00:01:02 And in talking about what it means to fall from grace, a lot of times you
00:01:07 wonder, well, how do you make a distinction between a good work or a dead
00:01:14 work or performance? I mean, do you just kind of just sit there and just, you
00:01:22 know, wait on God to do something without our involvement?
00:01:29 Well, I think that's a pretty legitimate question.
00:01:33 And so, as we deal with the subject today, we're going to zero in on this
00:01:39 topic, dead works versus good works. We're going to compare and contrast so
00:01:46 that you won't be caught in a situation where, you know, you don't know what
00:01:52 determines a good work. You don't know what determines a dead
00:01:55 work, and so you just kind of get stuck in limbo.
00:01:59 You know that dead works or works of law or works of performance, you know that's
00:02:07 an issue. But what about good works?
00:02:10 Do we just not work at all? Well, let's deal with this Scripture
00:02:14 here, Galatians 5 and 4. He says, "Christ," read it out loud with me.
00:02:19 Ready? Read. "Christ is become of no effect unto you.
00:02:25 Whosoever of you are justified by the law, you're fallen from grace."
00:02:33 Now, I don't believe anybody here wants to fall from grace, amen?
00:02:38 But he says, "Christ has become of no effect."
00:02:44 Why is it that we're not seeing effect? Christ can't affect our prayer life.
00:02:50 Christ can't affect our relationships. Christ can't affect our healing in our
00:02:55 physical body. Christ can't affect our jobs and
00:02:58 promotion in life. Why is it that Christ has gotten to the
00:03:01 point here where Christ has no effect? He says, "Because you are now trying to be
00:03:11 justified by the law." Now, what does justified mean?
00:03:17 I mean, it simply means declared righteous.
00:03:20 You are now trying to be declared righteous based on the law.
00:03:28 And he says, "As a result of that, whosoever of you are justified by the
00:03:33 law," being justified by the law, you're trying to accomplish or achieve
00:03:39 something by the law instead of by faith in Jesus Christ.
00:03:44 And he says, "When you're justified by the law and you're trying to do something
00:03:50 to deserve something by the law, you have fallen from grace,
00:03:56 trusting and believing in Jesus, trusting and believing in the finished
00:04:00 works, you've fallen from that, and now you've gone back into
00:04:04 self-effort. Now you've gone back into performance."
00:04:07 The covenant of the law is a performance-based covenant.
00:04:14 The covenant of the law is a covenant that is based on what you do.
00:04:21 Under the law, it's if you are good, then God will be good to you.
00:04:28 But under grace, God is good to you because God is good without having to
00:04:35 require something on your part.
00:04:38 To say that is also to say that God's ability is based on your behaving.
00:04:48 And to say that is to say that your behaving is greater than his ability,
00:04:53 that it is greater than his grace, and it is not.
00:04:58 Now, for some of you who are visiting today and you're going to see that
00:05:02 there's a big distinction between religion and the law versus this covenant
00:05:08 of grace.
00:05:10 And so, you have fallen from grace.
00:05:12 Now, the world uses this term to describe a person who has fallen
00:05:18 into sin, but falling from grace does not mean falling into sin.
00:05:23 Falling from grace means falling back into trusting your own ability,
00:05:30 falling back into you having to do something to deserve something,
00:05:34 falling back into the attitude of the law, saying that my performance now will
00:05:41 determine my outcome.
00:05:44 And he says, "You've fallen from grace when you've done that."
00:05:48 So now, for a lot of people who think, "Well, I fell into sin,
00:05:52 I fell from grace."
00:05:53 No, you didn't even fall into sin, but you fell back into trusting what you
00:05:58 do more than trusting God.
00:06:01 He says, "You've fallen from grace."
00:06:03 Now, look at this in the book of Genesis.
00:06:07 Well, let's go Galatians 2, 16, Galatians chapter 2 and 16,
00:06:12 and let's read it in two versions, the King James and then the NLT.
00:06:19 The King James says, "Knowing that a man is not justified or declared righteous by
00:06:24 the works of the law."
00:06:26 There it is right there.
00:06:27 "Knowing that a man is not declared righteous by the works of the law,
00:06:31 and yet there are Christian people every day that receive what was said over the
00:06:38 pulpit."
00:06:38 Because over the pulpit, we have this idea that the gospel was
00:06:44 about what you do.
00:06:46 The gospel was about do right, live right, die right, be right.
00:06:51 No, the gospel is not about what you do, the gospel is about how you believe.
00:06:58 I said the gospel is about how you believe because you ain't going to do
00:07:01 right if you don't believe right.
00:07:04 But if you believe right, you're going to do right.
00:07:07 But here it is right here, "Knowing that a man is not justified by the
00:07:10 works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ."
00:07:15 You're justified by having faith in Jesus Christ.
00:07:18 In other words, I am not righteous because I do right.
00:07:22 I am righteous because I believe in Jesus and his righteousness.
00:07:26 My righteousness is his righteousness.
00:07:28 If Jesus wasn't righteous, I couldn't be righteous.
00:07:32 So, my righteousness comes because of my belief and my faith in Jesus Christ,
00:07:37 not because of my works.
00:07:40 "Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law,
00:07:44 but by the faith of Jesus Christ."
00:07:45 Even when, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by faith
00:07:54 of Christ and not by the works of the law.
00:07:57 See, the works of the law, under the law, it said you got to do this in order
00:08:00 to do this.
00:08:01 Under the law, it says, "If you do this, then this will happen."
00:08:04 Under the law, it says, "If you'll be obedient, then you'll be blessed."
00:08:07 Under the law, it says, "If you'll do these things, this will happen."
00:08:10 But then the law says, "And if you don't do it, then this is going to happen.
00:08:13 And if you don't do it, then that's going to happen."
00:08:15 So, the law is a performance-based covenant that if you do good,
00:08:20 you get good.
00:08:21 If you do bad, you get bad.
00:08:23 That's what the law...
00:08:24 But that's what most churches are preaching.
00:08:27 If you do good, if you do this, if you do that, then God will be good to you.
00:08:32 But, oh, you better watch out because if you do bad, then God going to get you.
00:08:40 That was true before the cross, but after the cross, that was canceled.
00:08:47 And now, we have faith in Jesus Christ, and our faith in him gives us what he
00:08:54 says we can have.
00:08:55 He says, "So, and not by works of the law, for by the works of the law shall no
00:09:01 flesh be declared righteous by the works of the law."
00:09:06 Now, look at this in NLT, and we'll move on.
00:09:10 One of the challenges that you have in even listening to this is you're
00:09:14 challenging in your mind, "Yeah, but what do you do?
00:09:16 Yeah, but what do you do?"
00:09:17 I'm going to show you that, but I want to set your mind up to that
00:09:23 contradiction of, "Yeah, but you got to do something.
00:09:26 Yeah, but you got to do something.
00:09:27 Yeah, but you got to do something."
00:09:29 Yeah, you will.
00:09:30 It's--there's one little thing that's going to make the distinction in this,
00:09:33 and I believe it'll set you free.
00:09:34 Look at verse 16 in NLT.
00:09:36 He says, "Yet we know that a person is made right with God by faith in Jesus
00:09:40 Christ, not by obeying the law.
00:09:43 And we have believed in Christ Jesus so that we might be made right with God
00:09:49 because of our faith in Christ, not because we have obeyed the law."
00:09:54 Now, some of you are having shockwaves going through your body because the
00:09:57 opposite was told you in church growing up.
00:10:00 You got to obey all the law.
00:10:02 You got to--you can't even obey--the Bible says you can't obey all the law.
00:10:05 The Bible says in James, "If you offend in one, if you break just one little bit,"
00:10:10 that means if you barbecue pork on 4th of July, you'd have broke one of them laws.
00:10:16 He says you are guilty of breaking all of them.
00:10:23 You're not made right with God because you obeyed all the commandments.
00:10:27 He says you're right with God because you have faith in Jesus Christ,
00:10:29 not because you obeyed all of the law.
00:10:31 For no one will ever be made right with God by obeying the law.
00:10:36 No one.
00:10:38 And we still are struggling and working hard to obey the law and not having faith
00:10:47 in Jesus Christ because obeying the law involves what you do to obey it and not
00:10:54 involving your obedience to Jesus Christ.
00:10:56 If you understand that, say amen.
00:10:59 All right.
00:10:59 So, any righteousness without faith in Christ is but filthy rags.
00:11:08 Isaiah 64 and 6 describes the righteousness before the cross.
00:11:16 And in Isaiah 64 and 6, he says, "But we are all as unclean things,
00:11:23 and all our righteousness are as filthy rags."
00:11:27 Now, you can't say that today.
00:11:30 And I can't tell you the number of churches I've sat in and preachers said,
00:11:34 "You know, all of our righteousness is as filthy rags."
00:11:38 And the whole church, "Yes, amen."
00:11:39 No, no, that was before the cross.
00:11:43 Now that our righteousness is based on Jesus Christ, Christ ain't filthy.
00:11:48 I'm not filthy either.
00:11:50 But before I had Christ, my effort to try to become righteous,
00:11:55 he said, "All of the stuff you do to try to become righteous is just
00:12:00 like filthy rags.
00:12:02 You can't become righteous without Christ."
00:12:05 Now, let's get to our subject.
00:12:11 Hebrews 9, 13, and 14.
00:12:15 Hebrews 9, 13, and 14.
00:12:20 Dead works.
00:12:22 What does the Bible have to say about dead works?
00:12:27 All right, now, verse 13 says, "For if the blood of bulls and goats,
00:12:34 and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling the unclean,
00:12:38 if it's sanctified to the purifying of man," you know,
00:12:43 the sacrificial offering system basically said that once a year,
00:12:49 you would bring an acceptable sacrifice,
00:12:51 present it to the priest, and the blood of that sacrifice,
00:12:56 if it was an acceptable sacrifice,
00:12:59 the blood of that animal sacrifice would symbolically
00:13:03 cover your sins for at least one year.
00:13:06 You got insurance, sin insurance for one year.
00:13:10 But it could never remove sin.
00:13:13 It could only cover sin.
00:13:16 That's atoning blood.
00:13:18 Atoning--and that's even misused now.
00:13:21 Atoning blood is blood that covers your sin.
00:13:24 The blood of Jesus was not atoning blood.
00:13:28 The blood of Jesus did not cover your sins.
00:13:32 The blood of Jesus wiped your sin out.
00:13:37 The blood of Jesus is referred to as remitting sin, okay?
00:13:43 So, he says, "So, if the blood of the bulls,
00:13:46 and the goats, and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling the
00:13:48 unclean, if it sanctify to the purifying of the flesh,"
00:13:52 verse 14, "how much more," listen to this,
00:13:55 a comparison between the blood of Jesus and the blood
00:13:57 of the animals, "how much more shall the blood of Christ,
00:14:02 who through the eternal Spirit offered,
00:14:06 he offered himself having no spot without spot to God,
00:14:12 how much more can the blood of Jesus," watch this,
00:14:16 "purge your conscience from dead works?"
00:14:24 So, I'm not even talking about the dead works as much as I'm
00:14:27 talking about your mindset and your conscience,
00:14:32 your sin conscience.
00:14:33 Your conscious mind has just been marred with,
00:14:39 "I got to do something in order to deserve something.
00:14:43 I've got to do something to get God to show me favor."
00:14:51 All my life in church, it was all about,
00:14:54 "You got to do this, this, this, this, this,
00:14:57 and if you'll do it just right, then God'll do something
00:15:01 for you."
00:15:03 And Easter is filled, it's Easter,
00:15:06 everybody come to church on Easter.
00:15:08 They act like it's the animal sacrifice.
00:15:10 They come once a year to see if they can get covered
00:15:17 for the year.
00:15:20 I bump into people, I say, "Man, I ain't seen you since,
00:15:22 well, last Easter."
00:15:24 He said that the blood of Jesus will purge your conscience
00:15:34 from dead works.
00:15:36 Now, here's the issue, so you can serve the living God.
00:15:42 As long as our consciousness is inundated with this thought
00:15:50 of dead works, it is going to affect how I serve
00:15:58 the living God because we're serving the living God saying,
00:16:04 "All right, God, what you did wasn't enough.
00:16:06 Now, I got to do this, and I got to do that,
00:16:08 and I got to do that."
00:16:09 And come on, Jesus, and you're sweating,
00:16:11 and you're working, and you're doing all this stuff
00:16:13 'cause you're trying to get God to do it.
00:16:15 You're trying to get God to do it.
00:16:17 He says that's going to affect how you're serving God.
00:16:19 God's like saying, "You're serving me like a slave,
00:16:21 and I want you to serve me like a son."
00:16:23 The law is for immature Christians.
00:16:29 Grace is for adult Christians.
00:16:34 Now, listen, listen to me carefully now.
00:16:39 Dead works, so what are dead works?
00:16:41 Let's work on defining it.
00:16:43 The works, dead works are the works of our hands,
00:16:48 or it's the self-effort and performance of our hands.
00:16:54 In other words, you got a hand in it trying to accomplish
00:17:01 what can only be accomplished through faith in Christ Jesus.
00:17:06 It can only be accomplished through faith in Christ Jesus,
00:17:08 but our conscious mind says that, "No,
00:17:13 I got to have a hand in this."
00:17:17 God says, "I've already healed you."
00:17:19 "No, I got to have a hand in this."
00:17:21 God says, "You know what?
00:17:22 I'm working on this thing with your relationship."
00:17:24 "No, I got to have a hand in this."
00:17:26 Sometimes you got to be careful.
00:17:27 Sometimes you mess up stuff.
00:17:28 God almost finished with it, and you put a hand in it.
00:17:31 Dead works are you trying to put your hands in it,
00:17:38 your performance in it, trying to accomplish what can only be
00:17:42 accomplished through faith in Christ.
00:17:45 Now, the problem with dead works, it can be lethal.
00:17:53 It can be lethal in our lives because they can convince you
00:17:58 that you can be good without God.
00:18:02 Eventually it goes on and it says,
00:18:04 "You got a hand in it.
00:18:05 You got a hand in it."
00:18:06 "Oh, I fasted for 12 days, and look what God did."
00:18:09 "Oh, I prayed for extra five hours,
00:18:12 and look what God did."
00:18:13 And fasting is good, and prayer is good,
00:18:15 but if it's dead works, if that fasting was dead works,
00:18:20 if that prayer was a part of dead works,
00:18:22 and I'll show you how to make the distinction in a minute,
00:18:25 then it becomes lethal because now you think,
00:18:30 "I can be successful without God.
00:18:33 All I got to do," and I hear that.
00:18:35 I hear people saying stuff like that.
00:18:37 "I'm going to do this, this, and this, and then this will work.
00:18:41 I'm going to do this, this, and this, and then this will work.
00:18:44 I'm going to give this much money, and it's going,
00:18:46 I'm going to triple it, and then it's going to definitely work.
00:18:49 I'm going to pray at the altar in the dome,
00:18:53 and then that's going to work."
00:18:56 And all of a sudden you begin to think, "You know what?
00:19:00 I don't think I really need God.
00:19:01 All I need," watch this, "is more principles, oh, Lord."
00:19:06 See, I'm not in bondage to nobody,
00:19:07 so I'm going to say like I want to say,
00:19:08 "All I need is some more principles.
00:19:10 Give me 10 more principles.
00:19:11 Give me 20 more principles," and he tried to simplify
00:19:14 everything for you.
00:19:15 He saw the mess that people made in the old covenant,
00:19:18 and he is saying, "All right, let me make this simple.
00:19:21 I'm going to do it all."
00:19:23 He actually did this.
00:19:25 He actually showed up, and he didn't really say,
00:19:26 "I'm going to do it all."
00:19:27 He actually said, "I have done it all.
00:19:31 The table's prepared.
00:19:33 The food is ready.
00:19:35 All you got to do is come and sit down, and the only work I
00:19:39 want you to do is to believe in the one I sent."
00:19:43 You figure, "How do you mess that up?"
00:19:45 By putting your hands in it.
00:19:48 You're trying to finish cooking candy yams,
00:19:50 and the yams are already done.
00:19:53 And you know what you do when you try to put your hands in
00:19:55 something that's already fixed?
00:19:57 You mess it up.
00:19:59 Wow.
00:20:04 Dead works.
00:20:06 Dead works are godless labor without God.
00:20:11 Godless labor.
00:20:18 Of course, godless indicate that it's without God.
00:20:21 Here's what I believe this Scripture was saying in
00:20:24 Proverbs chapter 14 and 12.
00:20:25 Flip there.
00:20:26 It's in a couple of places, Proverbs 14 and Proverbs 16.
00:20:30 Proverbs 14 and 12, he says this, "There is a way which
00:20:34 seems right unto a man."
00:20:36 How many of you ever gotten involved in ways that seemed
00:20:42 right?
00:20:45 "But the end thereof are the ways of death."
00:20:51 We keep looking for the way that seems right,
00:20:55 but it's not right.
00:20:57 And then you see in Philippians chapter 3, verse 4 and 9,
00:21:01 the apostle Paul was a zealous old covenant person.
00:21:06 He was law-based.
00:21:10 He was a Pharisee.
00:21:12 He was Jewish.
00:21:13 I mean, he was very zealous about the law.
00:21:18 And you would think, "Why would you call somebody that was so
00:21:22 law-based to teach the gospel of grace?"
00:21:25 Had to--you see what God had to do.
00:21:29 He met God on the road of Damascus, and he said,
00:21:32 "Saul, Saul, why persecuteth me?"
00:21:35 And Saul looking at him like, "Man, I ain't did nothing to
00:21:37 you."
00:21:38 He says, "When you do it to the least of them, my brethren,
00:21:40 you've done it unto me."
00:21:43 And when that experience was over with, he was blind.
00:21:48 He couldn't see.
00:21:50 Glory be to God.
00:21:52 He couldn't see.
00:21:53 All of us can relate to being blind.
00:21:57 Under the law, we were blind.
00:22:01 There are people today that are blind.
00:22:03 They just can't see it.
00:22:04 We have to be gracious.
00:22:05 We have to be patient, but they just can't see it.
00:22:07 I remember when I just couldn't see it because this is all I
00:22:09 ever heard.
00:22:10 I always heard it this way.
00:22:12 I always heard it like this.
00:22:13 I always heard you had to have your hands in it.
00:22:16 Always heard you got to take one step and he will do the rest.
00:22:23 We sung about it.
00:22:24 We taught about it.
00:22:25 And so, when I was first presented the Gospel, my
00:22:28 comment was, "What in the world is he talking about?"
00:22:31 Ken and Ann, you remember when we went to that seminar and we
00:22:34 all got in the car?
00:22:35 We were kind of quiet, and everybody--and then start
00:22:37 leaking questions like, "Well, but how you gonna do that?
00:22:40 But don't the Bible say--" We didn't have a clue.
00:22:42 We was blind as a bat, but we knew something wasn't right.
00:22:49 We knew we was missing something because we--there would be times
00:22:53 when we would do things and it didn't work.
00:22:56 There would be times where we did multiple things and it
00:22:59 didn't work.
00:23:00 Fasted for a long time.
00:23:03 Prayed for a long time.
00:23:05 Put on the Jewish garments.
00:23:08 Used a whole bottle of oil.
00:23:10 I mean, man, they was slipping for five days, just slipping.
00:23:13 And they still died, and they still got put out the house,
00:23:21 and still didn't have the money to do this, and still the tumor
00:23:25 was still--just saying.
00:23:26 And I stopped.
00:23:27 I said, "Hold up.
00:23:28 Hold up."
00:23:29 And I'm preaching it hard and doing the Greek and Hebrew like
00:23:34 it made it better.
00:23:37 Hebrew and Greek won't help lack of context.
00:23:41 Don't come telling me the Hebrew word you can't pronounce.
00:23:45 I don't care.
00:23:47 You know, the Hebrew word for this is shakakuku.
00:23:49 I don't care.
00:23:50 I can't even say it.
00:23:51 I don't know how to spell it.
00:23:52 Why you telling me that?
00:23:54 Hebrew ain't gonna correct a lack of context.
00:23:57 Let me calm down 'cause sweet lips increase learning.
00:24:05 I'm like, "You know, we didn't know."
00:24:11 And here's Paul.
00:24:12 He says, "Though I might also have confidence in the flesh."
00:24:15 He's referring to that law-based, performance-based,
00:24:19 dead work-based operation.
00:24:22 "Though I might also have confidence in the flesh."
00:24:24 If any other man thinking that he hath whereof might trust in
00:24:29 the flesh and trust in his performance and trust in his
00:24:32 dead works, he says, "I'm more."
00:24:34 "I'm more."
00:24:37 And then he goes on and he says, verse 5, he says,
00:24:40 "Circumcised," he starts telling you about all the stuff he had
00:24:44 in the flesh that should have qualified him without no
00:24:46 problem, "I was circumcised the eighth day.
00:24:49 I'm of the stock of Israel.
00:24:53 I'm of the tribe of Benjamin.
00:24:55 I'm a Hebrew of Hebrews.
00:24:58 As touching the law, I'm a Pharisee.
00:25:03 Concerning zeal, I was so zealous I was persecuting
00:25:07 the church.
00:25:08 Touching the righteous, which is in the law, blameless.
00:25:13 But what things were gained to me," all those things I had,
00:25:18 "those I counted lost."
00:25:20 All of those things that I had in my life, all of those
00:25:23 advantages I had in my life, all of those things that I thought
00:25:25 would put me ahead, all of those things I thought would make me
00:25:28 righteous, all those things that I thought would make me good.
00:25:33 He said, "Those things I counted lost so I can receive Christ.
00:25:38 Yea, doubtless, and I count all things but lost for the
00:25:42 excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I
00:25:45 have suffered the loss of all things," and he says, "and I do
00:25:52 count them but dung," just waste, "that I may win Christ."
00:25:57 And then verse 9 says, "And be found in him not having my own
00:26:02 righteousness, which is of the law."
00:26:05 Notice what he says, "Not my own righteousness, which is of the
00:26:08 law."
00:26:09 That's what people are trying to do right now.
00:26:11 They're trying to get their own righteousness.
00:26:13 "And if I do these things, I feed the poor.
00:26:15 If I show up and cut the grass at the church, if I show up
00:26:18 while we're giving food away, if I," and you come up with all
00:26:20 the things so that you can have your own righteousness, which is
00:26:24 of the law.
00:26:25 He says, "But that which is through the faith of Christ is
00:26:28 what I have, the righteousness which is of God by faith in
00:26:34 Jesus Christ."
00:26:35 And that's it.
00:26:37 Paul counted it all dung.
00:26:41 So in summary, dead works would be any attempt to find favor,
00:26:48 earn acceptance, or be made righteous before God by your own
00:26:52 effort, by your own ability, and by your own willpower.
00:26:56 If you understand that, say amen.
00:26:58 Now, religion puts emphasis on doing right, and in contrast,
00:27:06 Jesus and the apostles put emphasis on believing right
00:27:11 because when we believe right, we will do right as a
00:27:15 consequence of believing right.
00:27:18 And so, I'm saying to the church, "Hey, let's back up a
00:27:21 little bit.
00:27:22 Instead of working hard to believe right, I mean, working
00:27:25 hard to do right, let's believe right."
00:27:28 See, doing right follows believing right.
00:27:31 If you look at stuff you ain't doing right, go and ask
00:27:33 yourself, "Do I believe it?"
00:27:36 And if you'll straighten out your believing, then your doing
00:27:38 will follow suit.
00:27:40 Now, let's go to Hebrews chapter 6, verses 1 through 3.
00:27:43 Somebody said, "What kind of church is this?
00:27:46 When are you gonna start preaching?"
00:27:48 I said, "I'm a--I'm a--this is how I do it.
00:27:55 I can't--I can't do that thing where I'm hollering and
00:28:04 screaming, and you're hollering and screaming, and everybody
00:28:06 hollering and screaming, and you walk out here.
00:28:08 I don't understand no more than what I tried to tell you, and
00:28:10 you don't understand none at all."
00:28:12 And then we say we had a good time at church.

00:30:40 stop laying again certain foundations over and over and
00:30:45 over, laying again the foundation of repentance from

00:30:52 Repentance means it's your mindset, it's your thinking.

00:31:05 And basically, what he says here, he says, "Repentance from
00:31:10 dead works, number one, is a foundational thing, but
00:31:14 repentance means to change the way you think concerning dead
00:31:19 works."
00:31:22 Change the way you think concerning dead works.
00:31:27 We need to change our thinking about dead works.
00:31:30 And how should we think about it?
00:31:32 It is no longer acceptable under this New Testament.
00:31:36 After the cross, dead works are over.
00:31:40 Change your thinking.
00:31:44 Quit trying to do something to deserve something.
00:31:48 "Well, God, I went to church today.
00:31:50 Don't I deserve some favor?"
00:31:53 If favor could be deserved, it wouldn't be favor.
00:31:57 It would be something you earned or something that you deserve,
00:32:03 and favor, grace is undeserved favor.
00:32:08 Now, that's dead works.
00:32:14 Everybody understand what dead works are?

00:32:21 Okay, now let's look at good works.
00:32:24 From the outside looking in, we may be challenged with seeing
00:32:30 the difference between dead works and good works.
00:32:38 From the outside looking in, is that a dead work or is that a
00:32:41 good work?
00:32:43 They can look a whole lot and very much the same outwardly.
00:32:49 They can be the same works, but they have--I mean, listen,
00:32:56 you're talking about they can be the same work,
00:33:00 but they have different--listen to this, here it is--motives.
00:33:04 Motives.
00:33:10 Praying can be a dead work or good work.
00:33:13 What's the motive?
00:33:16 Attending church can be a dead work or good work.
00:33:20 What's the motive?
00:33:22 Reading the Bible can be a dead work or good work.
00:33:26 If you're sitting up there reading the Bible,
00:33:28 "Well, maybe if I read the Bible, then God'll do--"
00:33:30 Or, "Man, let me open that Bible up.
00:33:32 I just--oh, my God, I want him to speak to me through this
00:33:35 Bible 'cause I just love him."
00:33:36 Motive.
00:33:38 Telling others about Jesus can be a dead work or a good work.
00:33:43 Motive.
00:33:45 Giving an offering can be a dead work or a good work.
00:33:50 Motive.
00:33:52 Under the New Testament, it's different from the law.
00:33:56 Under the law, if you did it, then, you know, if I could--if
00:34:01 I would--or I said, "If I would keep the commandments,
00:34:06 then I'll get blessed."
00:34:08 But it's not about that--with good works, what good works is,
00:34:12 is it coming out of a heart that loves me?
00:34:16 Motive.
00:34:17 Why you doing what you do?
00:34:20 If we can't tell outwardly, then how do we know what a good work
00:34:27 is if I can't--you know, somebody's--I mean, listen,
00:34:30 they're out there feeding the poor.
00:34:33 They're sweating.
00:34:35 They've been doing it for 12 hours.
00:34:37 They even got a Atlanta Service Award for giving people
00:34:43 the most food.
00:34:45 But it was a dead work because the motive was off.
00:34:51 The whole reason why they did the 12 hours, 'cause they heard
00:34:58 about the award, and they said, "If I go out here and do this
00:35:02 and take pictures of it, you don't hear me.
00:35:07 Take pictures of it."
00:35:12 Wow, it's just kind of--but how do I tell?
00:35:17 How do I know from the outside?
00:35:19 'Cause it looks like a good work.
00:35:21 I mean, we were always told, "This is a good work.
00:35:23 That's a good work.
00:35:24 That's a good work."
00:35:25 And you could just pick out all the good works.
00:35:27 I mean, taking somebody and, you know, giving them a home and,
00:35:29 "Oh, good works," and pat you on the back, "Good works,"
00:35:32 and that's easy to fall into.
00:35:34 We all kind of fell into it.
00:35:37 You know, I had this thing I shared at the women's
00:35:39 conference, and this question was asked to me, you know,
00:35:42 "Do you think that pride and ego sits at your table?"
00:35:47 And the Christian part of me wanted to say,
00:35:51 "Absolutely not."
00:35:53 But before I answered, I thought I said,
00:35:57 "It's probably sitting around the table somewhere every
00:36:01 now and then, and it may be all the time,
00:36:04 but I just got to make sure it doesn't sit at the head
00:36:06 of the table."
00:36:08 Pride and ego, 'cause a lot of people have pride,
00:36:15 and that pride feeds their ego.
00:36:17 And so, I've accepted pride and ego probably sitting at my table
00:36:23 somewhere, but I'm going to make sure I know where they're
00:36:26 sitting at every day.
00:36:31 All right, now listen to this.
00:36:33 A good work is when we do the will of God as a response to his
00:36:38 love, his mercy, and our new identity
00:36:47 of righteousness in Christ.
00:36:49 Let me share three Scriptures with you,
00:36:51 and we're going to settle this.
00:36:53 Ephesians 2:10 in the NLT.
00:36:55 Ephesians 2:10 in the NLT.
00:36:58 Now, this whole thing of, "Well, I don't want to fall from grace,
00:37:03 so I'm just not going to work.
00:37:04 I'm just going to say, you know, like Jane Brown, 'Hit me!
00:37:07 Uh, uh, hit me!'"
00:37:09 That's not how it works.
00:37:11 He's not going to hit you.
00:37:13 God is not opposed to good works done out of the right motive.
00:37:25 Verse 10 says, "For we are God's masterpiece."
00:37:30 He has created us anew in Christ Jesus so we can do the good
00:37:36 things he planned for us long ago.
00:37:40 Another translation says, "We are his workmanship,
00:37:43 created unto Christ Jesus unto good works."
00:37:46 So, good works are a part of the believer's life,
00:37:51 but it's not just the actual work that makes it good.
00:37:55 What makes it good is I'm doing this out of love.
00:38:00 Love is the motivation behind the work.
00:38:04 Look at Hebrews chapter 6:10 in the NLT.
00:38:10 Hebrews 6:10 in the NLT, "For God is not unjust.
00:38:15 He will not forget how hard you have worked for him and how you
00:38:20 have shown your love to him."
00:38:23 You see that?
00:38:25 Good works that he won't forget and how you've shown your love
00:38:29 to him by caring for other believers as you still do.
00:38:34 So, what is he saying here?
00:38:36 Like I told you, that could be a good work,
00:38:38 a dead work or a good work, but it's a good work because it was
00:38:41 born out of your love.
00:38:42 It was born out of your care.
00:38:44 It was born out of something you wanted to do for him.
00:38:48 That makes it a good work.
00:38:51 And then go to John 21, 15 and 17.
00:38:55 I'm gonna say this.
00:38:56 I want you to listen to it.
00:38:58 Love for God is the condition for good works.
00:39:04 Love for God is the condition for good works.
00:39:08 You remember after--the Scripture says,
00:39:10 "After breakfast, Jesus asked Simon,
00:39:12 'Peter, Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?'
00:39:16 'Yes, Lord,' Peter replied.
00:39:18 'You know I love you.'
00:39:19 Then he goes on again, next verse,
00:39:21 'Then feed my lambs.'
00:39:22 And Jesus told him," you know, next verse,
00:39:25 "Jesus repeated the question, 'Simon, son of John,
00:39:27 do you love me?'
00:39:28 Jesus, he said, 'Yes, Lord.'
00:39:31 Peter said, 'You know I love you.'
00:39:33 He said, 'Then take care of my sheep.'
00:39:36 And then Jesus said," next verse,
00:39:38 "a third time, he asked him, 'Simon, son of John,
00:39:41 do you love me?'"
00:39:43 What was Jesus doing?
00:39:45 That, "Brah, you can't feed my sheep with the wrong motivation.
00:39:50 Let's settle it.
00:39:55 You love me, then do this work.
00:39:58 You love me, then do this work."
00:39:59 I don't think it would hurt for the five-fold ministry
00:40:03 to hear this.
00:40:04 It's like you can't feed God's sheep if you don't love them.
00:40:08 You can't be a preacher and say, "I don't like people."
00:40:10 Well, you don't need to be trying to feed them.
00:40:14 You need to sit your tail down somewhere until you can figure
00:40:17 out how to love them.
00:40:19 It's got to be born out of love because if you stand up in that
00:40:22 pulpit and you feed them and you don't love them,
00:40:25 it's dead work.
00:40:27 It's dead work.
00:40:32 So, if you're volunteering in a department and doing all the
00:40:35 things you're doing, but it's not born out of love,
00:40:38 it's dead work.
00:40:40 Somehow you think you deserve something because of what you do.
00:40:46 It's dead work.
00:40:48 It's amazing he would say to him, "Peter, do you love me?"
00:40:51 "Yeah, Lord, you know I do."
00:40:53 "Peter, do you love me?"
00:40:54 "Yeah, Lord, you know I do."
00:40:55 "Well, go on, you can feed my sheep.
00:40:57 Go on, you can take care of my land.
00:40:59 Go on, you can do all of that."
00:41:01 But you cannot do that if what you do for my sheep is not born
00:41:06 out of love.
00:41:08 I'm privileged to be your pastor.
00:41:12 I'm honored.
00:41:13 And so, when I pray for my wife and my family and my children
00:41:18 and world changes.
00:41:21 You done been hit with prayer early this morning that you
00:41:23 ain't even know what you been hit with.
00:41:26 Honey, I believe there's some stuff that's gonna happen.
00:41:29 I've already bound the spirit of deception and compromise in your
00:41:34 life 'cause that ain't gonna be your problem.
00:41:36 I've already released abundance over your life and favor over
00:41:40 your life and protection over your life 'cause I love me some
00:41:44 world changes I can.
00:41:46 I love you.
00:41:48 So, I don't want to spend 60 years feeding you,
00:41:58 then get to heaven and say, "Lord, you know I've fed your
00:42:03 people for 60 years."
00:42:05 He said, "Yeah, but you couldn't stand them."
00:42:07 He said, "That's dead work, bro."
00:42:15 And then, after falling on my face, "Have mercy, Lord.
00:42:20 Your mercy, Jesus."
00:42:25 Now, so, let's just put it in plain English.
00:42:32 So, in summary, how do we know what good works are?
00:42:37 And number one, love must be the motive.
00:42:41 Number two, fear must not be the motive.
00:42:48 Anything you're doing motivated by fear classifies that as dead
00:42:56 works.
00:43:01 So, you're giving because you're afraid that you're--you know,
00:43:07 the Bible says, "Don't give out of necessity," and you're giving
00:43:09 out of necessity because you're afraid if you don't, then,
00:43:12 you know, it's dead works.
00:43:14 You're praying out of necessity because you're afraid that,
00:43:19 "If I don't pray, I won't be anointed."
00:43:21 Dead works.
00:43:22 You come to church--see, all those things are good.
00:43:26 You just have to change your motive.
00:43:28 You gotta change your motive.
00:43:29 And if fear is the motivation behind the godly work that you
00:43:35 do, then it's dead work for you.
00:43:40 So, you really have to examine the motive, the why,
00:43:44 the motor of why you do what you do.
00:43:48 Those of you who are engaged and getting married,
00:43:51 you need to sit down and say, "Why do you wanna marry me?"
00:43:53 Both of y'all need to ask that question,
00:43:54 "Why do you wanna marry me?"
00:43:56 And if he say, "'Cause you fine," you leave that lust pot
00:43:58 alone, just--just--just--all he want is the honeymoon and you--
00:44:03 he done with you.
00:44:05 What's the motive?
00:44:10 Why?
00:44:12 Why?
00:44:14 Pastor Dall, I wanna serve you.

00:44:20 Why?
00:44:21 What you want?
00:44:23 Don't say nothing.
00:44:25 So, now we got another problem.
00:44:26 Now you're lying.
00:44:28 You want something?
00:44:34 Just be--just tell the truth.
00:44:37 If y'all could see the meter of lies that go on amongst
00:44:42 tongue-talking Christian folk.
00:44:45 There's a lying problem in the church.
00:44:47 Taffi tried to tell us years ago during the pandemic.
00:44:49 She says, "Quit lying.
00:44:51 Quit lying."
00:44:53 That's a lying problem.
00:44:56 Somebody comes to you and they say,
00:44:58 "Well, what do you think about--what do you think about me?"
00:45:00 And you know 'em well and you already know what you think
00:45:02 about 'em.
00:45:03 And when you say nothing, you're lying.
00:45:05 That's your opportunity to speak the truth in love.
00:45:07 You talk too much.
00:45:09 You talk too much.
00:45:10 I can't hardly stand being around you 'cause your mouth
00:45:12 won't close.
00:45:13 And after a while, I'm just hearing,
00:45:17 "Wah, wah, wah, wah, wah, wah, wah, wah."
00:45:19 You can do that in love.
00:45:23 You can do that in love.
00:45:26 What fear is motivating you to do a godly work?
00:45:32 Uh-uh.
00:45:41 It's my speaking season or whatever you want to call it,
00:45:44 and preaching to you, teaching you is just awesome.
00:45:49 Teaching partners 'cause same way, they're awesome.
00:45:53 You know, Wednesday night crew, Grace Gang, awesome,
00:45:57 'cause they're there.
00:45:59 Preaching outside of that, see, that's my comfort zone.
00:46:03 Preaching outside of that, I freak out.
00:46:06 I got to the point where, "Oh, my God, an invitation?
00:46:09 Ooh, what am I gonna talk about?"
00:46:11 And a million things come to my head.
00:46:14 And I'm thinking, "I'm getting ready to take people out of
00:46:20 darkness into the marvelous light,
00:46:23 and some of them may be demon-possessed and may not want
00:46:26 that to happen."
00:46:28 You know, I'm going back overseas in May, and I'm like,
00:46:36 you know, "What am I doing there?"
00:46:39 Because some dear-hearted people said,
00:46:41 "We want to hear the gospel.
00:46:44 Would you please come and teach us the gospel of grace?"
00:46:52 You know, I can't, "Oh."
00:46:54 But I remember having to judge my motive.
00:47:01 Why am I gonna preach in this meeting with 77,000 people?
00:47:08 Why?
00:47:08 Why?
00:47:10 Why?
00:47:11 Am I doing it 'cause I love the people, or am I doing it
00:47:13 because, "Hey," they go ego and pride trying to sit at the front
00:47:18 of the table?
00:47:19 I just don't want that.
00:47:23 Jesus is coming.
00:47:25 He's getting closer and closer, and he already knows stuff
00:47:27 without you saying it or you trying to hide it.
00:47:30 He knows everything about you.
00:47:31 That used to bring me great--I was uncomfortable with Jesus
00:47:34 knowing everything about me, but I'm really cool with him knowing
00:47:38 everything about me because when something gets broken or needs
00:47:41 to be fixed, if there's anybody who knows how to fix it,
00:47:43 it's the one who knows everything about you.
00:47:47 And he knows exactly when that thing happened to trigger that
00:47:52 thing to cause that problem, and if you'll listen to him,
00:47:55 he'll help you to fix that thing.
00:47:58 But I was freaking out.
00:47:59 Jesus knows everything about me?
00:48:01 Oh, my God.
00:48:03 And some of us still try to lie to Jesus.
00:48:05 Well, you know, Lord, you know, kinda.
00:48:07 Are y'all listening to what I'm saying?
00:48:11 Now, let me show you something.
00:48:13 Well, that's number two.
00:48:14 Number three, how do we know it's a good work?
00:48:19 It must be voluntary and joyful.
00:48:21 Too many of us are making what we do for God a duty and an
00:48:30 obligation, but when it's a good work,
00:48:32 it's voluntary and it's joyful.
00:48:35 Not just voluntary, it's joyful.
00:48:37 If you're doing something voluntarily and it has no joy
00:48:43 in it, you need to ask the Lord about that.
00:48:46 Need to ask the Lord about that.
00:48:49 There's some things I was doing recently.
00:48:51 I started off enjoying it.
00:48:52 It was awesome.
00:48:53 It was great.
00:48:54 Then I went in one day, and I couldn't remember some stuff,
00:48:57 and I thought, "I ain't having--I'm tired."
00:48:59 Voluntary and joyful.
00:49:06 And then the last one, what you do for God has got to be as unto
00:49:10 the Lord, not as unto men.
00:49:13 The work is as unto the Lord.
00:49:18 The work is as unto the Lord.
00:49:20 Imagine you taking jobs that you can do as unto the Lord versus
00:49:25 just taking a job just for the pay,
00:49:29 'cause God is so smooth.
00:49:31 When you do something as unto him and the pay might not be
00:49:34 where it need to be, then he'd turn around and give you a big
00:49:37 old six-figure raise.
00:49:38 You didn't even know it was coming because you did it as
00:49:41 unto the Lord.
00:49:42 Aren't you tired of doing things unto men,
00:49:45 but it's not being done as unto the Lord?
00:49:47 I mean, I'm trusting God.
00:49:48 God can take something and turn it around and attach some stuff
00:49:50 to it, and you never knew that this thing that you agreed to do
00:49:54 was gonna turn out like this.
00:49:56 I remember doing that.
00:49:59 I promise you, when I accepted the call of ministry,
00:50:02 I thought our church was gonna be about 200 people,
00:50:04 250 people, have a little steeple, some benches.
00:50:08 I was gonna preach in, you know, a coaching shirt,
00:50:11 you know, and after service over with, "Hey, Bob.
00:50:14 Hey, Jill, how y'all doing?"
00:50:15 "Oh, good."
00:50:16 "Hey, tell the grandmama I said hello."
00:50:18 "Y'all come on over to the dinner stop by the house.
00:50:20 Y'all just real simple stuff and go on."
00:50:23 That stuff freaked me and Taffi out.
00:50:25 We was having a meeting down at the Atlanta Civic Center.
00:50:28 All these people come, and it was being--TBN was carrying it
00:50:32 alive, and Taffi came downstairs.
00:50:35 She said, "What in the world?
00:50:36 How did we get in this?"
00:50:37 She looked at me.
00:50:38 She said, "I want a divorce."
00:50:39 I said, "What?"
00:50:40 She said, "You didn't tell me all these people,
00:50:44 they won't stop coming.
00:50:46 They just keep coming and coming,
00:50:48 and I ain't know this is gonna happen."
00:50:50 I said, "I didn't either."
00:50:57 He'll take something done out of the right heart and turn it
00:51:03 into something so glorious, so magnificent, so awesome,
00:51:07 something that you would be willing to do for the rest
00:51:13 of your life.
00:51:15 In ministry, I mean, I gave my whole life.
00:51:20 I gave my whole life.
00:51:22 When it's up, when it's down, he's got my whole life.
00:51:26 It's like I'm yours.
00:51:30 When you finish with me, let me know so I can decide if I want
00:51:35 to stay or go, but right now I'm committed.
00:51:37 Whatever, I'm yours.
00:51:40 In ministry, you don't give a piece of yourself.
00:51:42 Give your whole life, your whole life.
00:51:48 You live for him, and you die for him, your whole life.
00:51:52 Now, lately, some people will disagree.
00:51:54 "Well, you know, not all of that should be because, you know,
00:51:57 after all, you're a human and all."
00:51:59 No, no, no, my whole life, he gave me life.
00:52:03 I'm giving it back to him, and I'm not giving him nothing
00:52:06 that wasn't his in the first place.
00:52:09 All things come of thee, O Lord, and of thine own I give unto you.
00:52:13 Okay, some people think differently, and that's fine.
00:52:16 That's just me.
00:52:17 That's Creflo.

00:52:19 You may not think.
00:52:20 You might think, "Well, you know, I give you a 50%
00:52:22 of my life."
00:52:23 You do that, but I can't not get over this God that keeps doing

00:52:32 grace and his mercy, that won't turn me loose, that keeps
00:52:37 changing me on the inside from glory to glory, that keeps doing
00:52:42 things that was only a dream, and it turns into a reality.
00:52:46 I can't let go of this God who won't let go of me, who keeps
00:52:51 healing me, who keeps delivering me, who keeps loving me, who I
00:52:56 can't let him go.
00:53:01 I don't know nobody like him.
00:53:03 I've never met nobody like him.
00:53:06 He's promised me eternal life.
00:53:08 Even when I leave this body, it's not over until he says
00:53:11 it's over.
00:53:12 I can't let him go.
00:53:14 I can't let him.
00:53:19 I don't know how.
00:53:30 I ain't even tried.
00:53:31 I just don't know how.
00:53:32 I don't know how.
00:53:37 I don't want to.
00:53:42 I guess I could, I just don't want to.
00:53:44 I see people who are strung out on drugs, and I look at them
00:53:50 today, and they're serving, and they're clean, and they got
00:53:52 wife, and they got family, and I'm like, "What kind of God can
00:53:55 do that?"
00:53:57 So I'm not interested in how to do church.
00:54:07 I'm not interested in how it's supposed to be done at church.
00:54:10 I'm not interested in--I just got connected with God, and
00:54:15 every day is amazing.
00:54:22 And I don't even know but a dust ball about it.
00:54:27 Imagine when we are connected with all knowledge, and we share
00:54:36 that all knowledge.
00:54:39 And when I see you in heaven, you ain't got to open your
00:54:41 mouth, 'cause I'm gonna know, and you gonna know.
00:54:45 Ain't no need to have--I don't even know why we got a mouth
00:54:47 for, because I'm gonna know all, you gonna know all, and we just--
00:54:51 we gonna--I can't even fathom that.
00:54:53 I don't even know how that work.
00:54:55 But when the day come for you to go, you ought to go like this.

00:55:15 'Cause all you did was from your heart.
00:55:19 You wasn't trying to get people's approval.

00:55:27 It wasn't some relationship that moved you.
00:55:30 It was God that moved you.
00:55:32 He saved you, sanctified you, filled you with the Holy Ghost,
00:55:35 cleaned you up, took away your bad habits, gave you some good
