The Canberra stadium debate: fans have their say on where a new stadium in Canberra should be. Bruce, Civic or elsewhere?
Transcript
00:00 So where would you like a new stadium in Canberra to be built?
00:04 To be honest I don't care but I want one soon.
00:08 What is the advantage of a new stadium?
00:30 It's the city. There's more to offer in the city, there's easier access, easier parking. It makes it more accessible for most of Canberra.
00:39 I'm happy for it to stay here in Bruce. I do actually like this stadium but I think it could be modernised and improved and have more coverage.
00:46 I think we should build it here in Bruce and leave it here.
00:48 I like the uniqueness of it and the fact that it is away from the city and yeah it's unique to Canberra and out in the bush and not contrasting the city.
00:58 I'd like it to be in the city because obviously you've got access from the transport point of view, a lot of restaurants and bars you can go to before and after the game.
01:05 But whether that can happen or not, who knows.
01:07 Well Civic would be good because it's just close to everything I think but I like it here. We've been coming here for years so we're kind of used to it.
01:13 If they just pre-perved a bit of it and that sort of thing, you know, so I'm kind of happy with it but a new one would be good too.
01:21 I think it should stay here. It's nice and close to where I live so that's nice.
01:27 It should be in the city. It should be in the city.
01:29 Why does it have to be there?
01:31 Just the entertainment there. You can go to the game, you can go out for dinner, drinks afterwards, brew drinks there. You come to Bruce, there's nothing really out of the box.
01:39 I think if we could just renovate this one it would be perfect. I think this one has been around for so long and it's got all the legacy right.
01:45 I think the first time that we left Seaford was tough enough and now having this one, it's just got everything in there.
01:51 I think everywhere else is so built up that this is just perfect.
01:54 I just love the location here. GIO Stadium is where it's at. The parking's not too bad.
02:00 Close to home. A lot of people can walk from all the suburbs and yeah, it's got all the infrastructure here so why change it?
02:06 I prefer it to be in the city. It needs to be accessible.
02:09 An entertainment destination somewhere where people can spend the time before the game, after the game.
02:15 Cafes, bars, enjoy themselves then come to the stadium and enjoy the spectacle.
02:22 We think that it should be built in the city. It's in the precinct, close to hotels, bars, restaurants.
02:31 It's central. It's in between walking distance. So it makes sense in the city.
02:37 Yeah, why in the city?
02:39 I think like everyone else, it's the location. It's so much better.
02:43 We were just in Adelaide the other week. The Seaford Air Stadium's in the city.
02:47 It's easy to get to. There's lots of places to stay. Restaurants, everything's around it already.
02:52 I think businesses will make more money from it rather than having just a cafe open just for the game on.
02:58 There is more time here.
03:00 Why do you want it here?
03:01 Because I like Belconnen. It's easy to get to and just always been here.
03:06 It should be definitely in the city I think.
03:08 Why is that?
03:09 I think it's more convenient. There's bars, there's restaurants, hotels, plenty of places for people to stay and eat after the game.
03:15 Just for the atmosphere.
03:17 You've been talking about it for 14 years. Do you feel it's time to get something done?
03:21 It was time 14 years ago.
