00:02 Hello, assalamu alaikum, and welcome to The Pavilion.
00:06 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
00:07 --sports, our continued coverage of the HBL PSL 9.
00:11 And what a fantastic HBL PSL 9 we've had so far.
00:14 Now one game left, the finals to determine
00:16 who will be the champion on the ninth edition of this HBL PSL
00:21 series.
00:22 So let's bring into the conversation.
00:24 In The Pavilion, I'm joined by four fantastic former captains,
00:27 four individuals who served the game of cricket in Pakistan
00:30 really well.
00:30 First up, I've got Azhar Ali.
00:32 Assalamu alaikum and welcome, Azhar.
00:34 Thank you.
00:34 Next up, I've got the professor himself, Mohammad Hafeez.
00:39 Assalamu alaikum and welcome, Hafeez.
00:40 Thank you for being here.
00:42 Next up, I've got the Mr. Dependable, Captain Misbahul
00:46 Haque.
00:46 Assalamu alaikum and welcome, Misbah.
00:49 And finally, I have got the legend himself,
00:52 the president of all presidents, the man who
00:55 is an enigma to so many.
00:57 So many facets of his multi-dimensional personality
01:01 we have discovered here in The Pavilion over the seasons.
01:04 It's just absolutely remarkable.
01:06 I can spend this entire show talking about this man's intro
01:10 only.
01:10 But you know what?
01:11 Since we do have to run commercials and make
01:13 some money as well, I'll have to really bring him
01:15 into this conversation.
01:16 Please welcome, Basim Akram.
01:17 Assalamu alaikum and welcome, Basim.
01:18 Assalamu alaikum, everyone.
01:20 All right.
01:21 It has been a very exciting HBL PSL 9.
01:24 We've seen some exciting games finishing right
01:26 on the final over on the last ball,
01:28 some sensational performances, some emotional moments,
01:32 some great memories that we'll take away from the HBL PSL 9.
01:35 But let's start off the conversation.
01:37 Let's start with-- since you've been the president of Karachi
01:41 Kings, let me ask you this.
01:43 Lahore and Karachi, what are the things that they
01:48 have to study and fix before they come back for HBL PSL 10?
01:54 [SPEAKING HINDI]
01:57 Because, Akib, I've just read somewhere
01:59 that he's joining Sri Lankan cricket
02:02 team as a bowling coach.
02:03 So it means he won't be available, I think,
02:07 because Sri Lankan team [SPEAKING HINDI]
02:09 I think he's only there for the World Cup.
02:11 [SPEAKING HINDI]
02:12 Only for the World Cup.
02:13 [SPEAKING HINDI]
02:13 OK, but I don't know about Lahore
02:15 because I'm not involved there in the structure.
02:17 [SPEAKING HINDI]
02:17 What do you think they should be doing?
02:19 Where should they be--
02:20 I'm all for Lahore focusing on their coaching.
02:24 [SPEAKING HINDI]
02:25 PDP program.
02:26 PDP program.
02:27 [SPEAKING HINDI]
02:28 If a player is good enough--
02:30 [SPEAKING HINDI]
02:33 Then he went on to become one of the top bowlers
02:35 in shorter format in world cricket with pace
02:38 and everything.
02:38 [SPEAKING HINDI]
02:39 Not for the sake of it.
02:40 [SPEAKING HINDI]
02:43 It has to be good enough quality.
02:45 And I can talk about Karachi Kings.
02:47 They're rebuilding a team.
02:48 League-- franchisee cricket, maybe,
02:51 building doesn't make any sense in a way because--
02:54 [SPEAKING HINDI]
02:55 You don't know who's going to be--
02:57 [SPEAKING HINDI]
02:58 Core players-- [SPEAKING HINDI]
03:01 --over the years.
03:02 [SPEAKING HINDI]
03:03 [SPEAKING HINDI]
03:13 [SPEAKING HINDI]
03:15 [SPEAKING HINDI]
03:17 I suppose, captain has to be there.
03:19 [SPEAKING HINDI]
03:20 And you need a father figure in there
03:25 as well in the dressing room.
03:27 OK, I can understand--
03:28 [SPEAKING HINDI]
03:30 --cricket director, your cricket manager,
03:32 [SPEAKING HINDI]
03:34 --draft me or--
03:36 [SPEAKING HINDI]
03:37 You need a domestic person--
03:39 [SPEAKING HINDI]
03:40 --actual player--
03:42 [SPEAKING HINDI]
03:43 --job playing 11--
03:45 [SPEAKING HINDI]
03:46 [SPEAKING HINDI]
03:47 So that means they didn't pick the 20 players--
03:58 [SPEAKING HINDI]
03:59 [SPEAKING HINDI]
04:02 [SPEAKING HINDI]
04:14 [SPEAKING HINDI]
04:15 [SPEAKING HINDI]
04:16 [SPEAKING HINDI]
04:18 [SPEAKING HINDI]
04:25 [SPEAKING HINDI]
04:26 [SPEAKING HINDI]
04:27 [SPEAKING HINDI]
04:31 [SPEAKING HINDI]
04:32 [SPEAKING HINDI]
04:33 [SPEAKING HINDI]
04:34 [SPEAKING HINDI]
04:35 [SPEAKING HINDI]
04:37 [SPEAKING HINDI]
04:38 [SPEAKING HINDI]
04:39 [SPEAKING HINDI]
04:40 [SPEAKING HINDI]
04:54 [SPEAKING HINDI]
04:55 [SPEAKING HINDI]
05:09 [SPEAKING HINDI]
05:11 [SPEAKING HINDI]
05:12 [SPEAKING HINDI]
05:26 [SPEAKING HINDI]
05:27 [SPEAKING HINDI]
05:29 [SPEAKING HINDI]
05:38 [SPEAKING HINDI]
05:39 Yeah.
05:40 [SPEAKING HINDI]
05:41 [SPEAKING HINDI]
05:42 [SPEAKING HINDI]
05:48 [SPEAKING HINDI]
06:08 [SPEAKING HINDI]
06:09 [SPEAKING HINDI]
06:12 [SPEAKING HINDI]
06:13 Six months before the PSL, so that you can draft your best players.
06:16 I think it was in December.
06:19 Actually, overseas players aren't available if you want to play so soon.
06:22 Pakistani players will be here.
06:24 You can't get a list.
06:25 That's why, it's done a month or two before.
06:28 So that you can get the right availability.
06:30 So, we split it between us and the local players.
06:33 You can't make a combination then.
06:34 Okay, you can't make a combination.
06:36 And secondly, in franchising cricket and league cricket,
06:39 it's happening everywhere.
06:42 Players are coming and going.
06:44 It's happened a lot in IIT 2020.
06:46 Look at Prime Example, Rutherford.
06:49 I was missing my family in the middle and he left.
06:52 Now, we'll have to look at these things.
06:54 You also highlighted the management of PCB once.
06:57 That it'll play an important role in the PSL 10.
07:02 Because it might clash with IPL.
07:05 No, it might not clash.
07:06 In case it does, you have to make sure
07:09 how you can make your brand the most attractive
07:12 by enhancing the infrastructural development.
07:14 Because there's going to be a Champions Trophy.
07:16 And I'm sure it'll be hit in many places.
07:18 There's a Tri Series in Pakistan.
07:21 So, I think the infrastructural development will be important.
07:24 The standard of pitches.
07:25 And all those things that attract the fans.
07:29 What should be developed and enhanced in the PSL 10.
07:33 We're talking about the teams.
07:34 But the management side,
07:36 we've organised 3-5 tournaments in Pakistan on the same pattern.
07:41 I think they need to look after this beautiful brand of cricket
07:45 which we've produced, the Pakistan Cricket Board.
07:47 Because if the PSL is damaged
07:49 by not providing the best facilitations to the fans,
07:52 it's all about the fans.
07:53 -The cricket fair is because of the fans. -You're right.
07:56 We need to look after them.
07:58 We need to do the right infrastructural development for them.
08:00 We need to make them so friendly.
08:02 Their routes,
08:03 the entertainment set-ups,
08:06 the food and drink, the washroom,
08:08 all these are the basics of the entertainment.
08:12 Of course, there's a game.
08:13 But I can sit comfortably with my wife and kids for 3-4 hours.
08:18 You forgot one thing in entertainment.
08:20 -The carrom board. -The carrom board.
08:22 He's talking about the grounds.
08:24 -You're talking about the team. -The grounds are important.
08:27 The foreigners need to spend more time off the field.
08:29 You're right. I completely agree with you.
08:32 For argument's sake, sorry to cut you.
08:34 In the world, if you take the leagues of Dubai, South Africa,
08:38 even Sri Lanka,
08:40 all these foreigners bring their families.
08:42 -Yes. -They have school holidays.
08:44 They don't bring their kids here.
08:46 Because they know that they'll be locked in a hotel.
08:48 -They'll be depressed. -Exactly.
08:50 -Their families will be depressed. -Exactly.
08:52 It's a big challenge for them.
08:54 But as you said, the standards and facilities need to improve.
08:57 As we know about the new chairman Mohsin Naqvi,
09:00 who's the first chief minister of Punjab,
09:02 he has shown great speed.
09:03 And a lot of things have been said that he has improved a lot.
09:06 Now, one of the things that people have consistently been telling us
09:10 over social media is that
09:12 he has made a big improvement on the government hospitals.
09:15 You find them clean. You find them like private hospitals.
09:18 And he has made the police stations friendly.
09:21 So I'm very hopeful that he is going to make sure that...
09:24 I have one question regarding Mohsin.
09:27 My question is...
09:29 I can understand what you said about his credentials.
09:31 He's very organized and sorted.
09:33 But he's getting two jobs now.
09:35 -Yes, indeed. -And the other ministry
09:36 -is a very powerful ministry. -And a full-time ministry.
09:39 So it'll be difficult. I don't know how he's going to juggle his time.
09:42 But probably he knows what he's doing.
09:44 Yeah. Yeah.
09:45 Okay, let's talk about Multan Sultans.
09:47 They've also gone through...
09:48 We were talking about Karachi and Lahore.
09:50 They'll have to go back to the drawing board
09:51 and think about how they want to go...
09:53 come back to BSL 10.
09:54 But Multan Sultans, recently, they've gone through multiple changes.
09:57 They've had to make changes to their ownership.
09:58 They've had to change their management.
10:00 But that change in the squad and everything,
10:02 it's like... it's worked like magic for them.
10:04 What is the key there, Azad?
10:06 Look, whatever changes they've made,
10:08 their vision was very clear.
10:09 You know, Ali Tareen brought in foreign staff,
10:13 and the local staff as well.
10:16 Abdul Rahman, the head coach,
10:17 he was already with them for four or five seasons.
10:20 He worked with Andy Flaher.
10:22 So, their core players were the same.
10:25 And the coaches were already working.
10:27 The rest of their support staff, analysts,
10:30 they were the same, and they brought in new people.
10:32 Apart from that, the coaching staff, the bowling coach,
10:34 for the first time, I think,
10:35 they hired a female fast bowling coach.
10:38 Then they hired a female spin bowling coach.
10:41 I think they experimented a bit there.
10:44 But whatever recruitment they did,
10:47 in the end, they removed the fear of failure.
10:54 And whatever was in his mind,
10:57 he had a long-term plan.
10:59 Because of that, he looked confident.
11:01 He didn't worry about what would happen.
11:03 I think the result didn't matter to him.
11:07 His vision was very clear.
11:09 His performance was clear.
11:11 He was consistent.
11:12 Then Rizwan became the captain.
11:15 Because Rizwan had been playing for the finals for four years.
11:19 He knew how to lead the team.
11:21 So, it wasn't that tough in that sense,
11:23 because he was consistent.
11:24 But I think vision is very important.
11:27 He was very consistent.
11:28 He was very consistent.
11:29 He was very consistent.
11:31 He was very consistent.
11:32 He was very consistent.
11:34 He was very consistent.
11:35 He was very consistent.
11:36 He was very consistent.

19:28 He was very consistent.
19:30 He was very consistent.
19:32 He was very consistent.
19:35 He was very consistent.
19:37 He was very consistent.
19:39 He was very consistent.
19:41 What was the most memorable innings for you in this HBL PSL?
19:45 I think it was another player who got a chance to play for Kuwait.
19:50 He got a chance to play in a different role.
19:54 He got a chance to play as an opener.
19:56 He got a chance to play in an 88-0 not-out against Lahore Columbus.
20:00 I think this innings were important because it was a pressure game.
20:04 Kuwait had to qualify for the must-win game.
20:08 The way he batted and the way he finished the game was something special.
20:13 There was a lot of pressure on Kuwait.
20:16 Overall, their batting lineup wasn't performing well.
20:20 The pressure was on the two top batsmen.
20:27 They had to run and the middle order didn't run.
20:30 The way he just basically batted throughout that inning was a special last over.
20:37 When he had to run, he had two shots.
20:40 I think those were special shots.
20:45 The most important thing was how he remained calm in a pressure situation.
20:52 He had to stay focused on which shot he had to play.
20:56 Like Haseen used the word 'thardhali'
20:59 - You make mistakes in that. - I know.
21:02 He just finished the game in a very good way.
21:06 Outstanding stuff. Azhar, for you, the most memorable HBL PSN 9 batting innings.
21:11 Usman Khan impressed me a lot throughout the tournament.
21:14 He made 106 runs against Karachi.
21:17 59 deliveries. That was outstanding.
21:21 He has played a lot of club cricket in Karachi.
21:24 The wickets in Karachi were not as good as they were in the tournament.
21:32 The Karachi shift was not as good as it was in the tournament.
21:35 But he played such a great ball.
21:37 And the best quality he has is that he hits good balls.
21:42 He shows good boundaries.
21:45 You saw his footwork. He plays with both front and back foot.
21:50 He is very aggressive against spinners.
21:53 He comes down the track and hits a sixer.
21:57 And then he goes deep in the crease and plays a cut.
22:00 His placement is great.
22:01 I think players like him, when they are in form,
22:05 it is difficult for the bowlers to do a good yorker.
22:09 So they place the ball in the gap.
22:11 Many batsmen in T20 cricket go with a hard end.
22:15 And they go for a big hit.
22:17 They are ready for a big hit.
22:19 But if they don't get the ball, they know how to place it well.
22:22 Absolutely. And let's not forget the fantastic innings by Shadab Khan.
22:26 He played against Peshawar Zalmi.
22:28 He played against Rutherford. He played for the gladiators.
22:33 And then that one very fantastic innings by Khawaja Nafe also.
22:37 These were all memorable innings that we saw during this HBL PSL 9.
22:40 With that, we're going to take another break here.
22:42 But when we come back, there are more memories from this HBL PSL 9.
22:57 Welcome back to The Pavilion. It's a special edition today
23:00 because it's an off day in the HBL PSL 9.
23:02 But we are reminiscing about the games that have been played
23:07 during this HBL PSL 9 with me in The Pavilion.
23:09 I've got four fantastic former captains of Pakistan.
23:11 I've got Azhar Ali, I've got Mohamed Afeez,
23:14 I've got Miss Foulhug and the great, busy Waseem Akram.
23:18 And before we go on break, we were talking about
23:21 memorable batting performances in this HBL PSL 9.
23:24 Waseem, let me bring this to you now.
23:25 The most memorable bowling effort by a player in this HBL PSL 9 for you.
23:30 I think a lot of bowlers have done well in bowling.
23:33 We've seen it. But I have to pick one spell
23:36 - which straightaway, straightaway... - Straightaway.
23:39 ...comes to my mind. That's Usama Mir,
23:41 the highest wicket-taker so far in this tournament.
23:43 He's got 6 for 40 against Lahore Colanders.
23:46 And I think he really is a different bowler when he plays PSL.
23:52 I hope he does the same for Pakistan.
23:54 - Yeah. - His ability is there.
23:56 He got picked up from his performance.
23:58 He's got the ability. He's got the googly.
24:01 But he's got to bowl fast in this PSL.
24:03 When he plays for Pakistan, he does a bit of slow bowling, I think.
24:07 But overall, pick of the bowlers, highest wicket-taker
24:10 and one of the best spells for me.
24:11 We've had a little chat on this.
24:14 We've asked a few people.
24:16 And the feedback we've got so far is that
24:18 when he was playing for Pakistan,
24:20 the idea of slow bowling was given to him by Mickey Arthur
24:26 to pull back his pace.
24:27 - And that's how... - Obviously, that didn't work.
24:30 It didn't work. Well, a lot of things didn't work.
24:33 And the one who leaves the ball, the whole issue is put on him.
24:36 - You did a... - If anybody would know...
24:39 - One minute. - I know that you would know.
24:41 We asked him, but he didn't take your name.
24:43 - He took Mickey Arthur's name. - But you can't talk to anyone wrong.
24:46 - Absolutely. - We have to be very honest.
24:47 Mickey Arthur will tell you as a coach
24:49 to put a jumper in the well.
24:50 - You kind of put it. - But he asked a beautiful question.
24:52 He must have told you the right way.
24:54 He must have said it on the right conditions.
24:56 - He must have said it against a batsman. - He must have said it for a reason.
24:59 - Not against everyone. - Yeah.
25:01 Anyway, he looked really fantastic throughout.
25:02 We hope that he continues this form and he delivers for Pakistan.
25:06 This six-wicket haul that, Waseem, you mentioned
25:08 also made him the first player in the history of PSL
25:11 - to get six wickets in a day. - Brilliant session.
25:13 And, yeah, that's a special performance.
25:14 Misma, for you, what was the most memorable bowling performance?
25:17 This PSL nine.
25:18 There are a lot of performances, but...
25:21 - Like Imad Waseem's comeback. - Oh, yes.
25:24 The way he was under pressure.
25:26 He wasn't bowling that much.
25:28 He wasn't batting that much.
25:30 But an important game against Quetta.
25:33 - Yes. - He was an eliminator.
25:34 He came in the eliminator and right from the start...
25:37 He came in early and got three wickets.
25:41 And within the first three overs, he almost finished the match.
25:46 That was, I think, a special performance.
25:50 Yes. It was just a performance.
25:51 The best thing is that in power play,
25:54 when you show a lot of courage and slow ball,
26:00 even when the mid-off was up,
26:02 he mixed it up and the batsmen thought he was bowling inside
26:06 because he had a mid-wicket and a long-on.
26:09 But he varied the pace and bowled attacking.
26:13 I think that's his strength.
26:15 He came out of the pressure and gave a great performance.
26:18 Another thing is that in yesterday's match,
26:20 Peshawar Zalmi, again another eliminator,
26:23 and he, of course, showed us his heroic side with his batting.
26:27 Yesterday, his bowling figures were also fantastic.
26:29 He was the most economical bowler for Islamabad United.
26:32 And throughout, he kept attacking the stumps.
26:34 - Very good bowling player. - Yes.
26:36 This proves that he played a small inning,
26:42 finished an important match on an important stage,
26:45 and then his confidence increased so much
26:48 that he was able to show a clear difference
26:51 in his bowling and batting.
26:53 Now, he's a proper match winner for Islamabad.
26:56 Yeah, he's delivered the goods.
26:57 For you, Azhar, what was the most memorable bowling effort?
27:01 Aqeel Hussain, who bowled four outs against Peshawar Zalmi,
27:06 and Hatrick was also there.
27:07 I think he bowled really well throughout the tournament.
27:11 And if you want to recognize Quetta till the playoff...
27:14 - He bowled Babar's wicket. - Babar Azhar bowled first in this match.
27:17 And then, these overs, and then Hatrick started from here.
27:20 Here, at one point, he bowled five outs at 157,
27:23 and he was able to score 200 runs easily.
27:25 But here, one over changed the game completely.
27:28 That is what impactful bowling is.
27:30 A beautiful catch.
27:31 A wonderful catch taken by the captain.
27:34 But again, in T20 cricket,
27:37 you get into a very bad situation and get into a good position.
27:41 I think that was one of the best spells in this tournament.
27:43 Yeah, indeed it was.
27:45 And for you, Hafeez, what was your memorable bowling effort?
27:47 Too many good performers.
27:49 But Arif Yaqub, as a youngster,
27:52 he continued the heroics of the National T20
27:56 on a big stage.
27:57 5-4-27 against Islamabad.
27:59 He won the game for Zalmi.
28:01 Basically, Islamabad was cruising that game.
28:04 And you know what?
28:06 What I really enjoyed was the temperament he showed.
28:10 Like, in the second-to-last over,
28:11 he changed the mindset of the entire franchise.
28:15 They were not relying on the spinners.
28:17 His performance gave them confidence
28:20 that the spinner can do wonders for them.
28:22 He performed well there.
28:24 Then Mehran Mumtaz came.
28:26 To me, that was a match-winning spell.
28:30 5-4-27.
28:31 And special from a youngster
28:34 who came from a right process and performed well.
28:36 Yeah, indeed. Those were some memorable bowling performances.
28:39 There were many other bowling efforts.
28:41 Maybe some wicketless, but they had an impact on these games.
28:44 Everything mattered in this HBL PSN line.
28:46 Because every team was giving it their best,
28:49 whatever was possible on the given day.
28:51 With that, we're going to take another break here on the Pavilion.
28:53 But when we come back, there's more to talk about on the other side.
28:55 Stay with us.
28:57 Hello and welcome back to the Pavilion.
29:02 I'm Fakhr-Alam Abdekarian, Sports Architect.
29:04 Continuing coverage of the HBL PSN line, which is coming to an end.
29:07 One more game to go to determine
29:08 who is going to be the champion of the 9th edition of the PSL.
29:11 And with me in the Pavilion,
29:12 I've got four fantastic former captains of Pakistan.
29:14 I've got Azhar Ali, Muhammad Hafeez,
29:15 Miss Paul Haq and the great Wasim Akram.
29:17 Before the break, we've taken a look at the best bowling efforts
29:20 for our panellists here.
29:21 But now let's talk about who are the players, Wasim,
29:25 for you that have made a case for themselves
29:27 for the T20 World Cup, for the Pakistani team,
29:30 or have made an impression, the emerging boys from Pakistan.
29:33 I think we've been here for a month now, almost, all of us.
29:36 We've been talking about middle order,
29:38 - Yes, absolutely. - for Pakistan.
29:40 A lot of people, when we do that segment,
29:42 "Ask the Pavilion",
29:43 a lot of people who are mostly knowledge-based,
29:46 who are cricket lovers,
29:47 they know that there's a problem with middle order.
29:51 There's a problem with fielding.
29:52 - There's a problem. - There's a problem.
29:54 So, if I have to pick any young guy
29:57 who can go on and play for the next 6-7 years for Pakistan
30:00 as a middle order batter, as a finisher,
30:02 who's strong and who's a gun fielder,
30:04 who impressed me, that's Irrfan Khan Niazi, I think.
30:07 - Yes. - And he's a proper system.
30:09 - He was with Karachi Kings last year. - Yes.
30:11 He showed us a glimpse of him.
30:12 He made 3-4 incredible catches.
30:15 - Literally, plucked out of the air. - Yes.
30:18 And then, this year,
30:20 I believe he got played first-class cricket.
30:22 He got 800 runs with a very healthy average.
30:24 And then he scored 171 runs in this PSL,
30:28 averaging 42, strike rate of 140.
30:31 - Yes. - And with him, in the middle order,
30:33 if any of the selectors, I think,
30:35 could have come up with a time to play him
30:38 and make sure he gets a proper go for Pakistan.
30:41 And then, your point fielder,
30:44 after 6 overs, your mid-on, mid-off, mid-wicket,
30:47 - he'd cover all of that. - He was covering a lot of ground.
30:49 Every time he was put out in the difficult area,
30:53 - Hot spots. - Hot spots.
30:54 He was covering a lot of ground.
30:56 And in a few fielding efforts, we saw him
30:58 running from mid-wicket to long-on
31:01 to cut off the runs.
31:02 But well done to him.
31:03 For you, Mr. Par,
31:05 who do you think is the most impactful emerging player
31:08 who's made a case for himself for the Pakistan team?
31:10 I think he was a domestic performer.
31:14 He gave a great performance.
31:16 And the impression he gave, Muhammad Ali,
31:19 Abhijun will be upset that I mentioned Muhammad Ali.
31:22 But I think...
31:25 I'm very happy for his performance.
31:27 Because he translated his performance
31:30 into all the formats he was doing.
31:33 And the hard yards he put in, in the domestic,
31:37 it means he got the temperament.
31:40 He believed in the biggest stage.
31:42 Multan Sultan,
31:44 with the new ball, in the middle overs,
31:46 in the death overs, he bowled really well everywhere.
31:50 So, really happy to see him performing.
31:53 Hopefully, in the future,
31:55 if he gets a chance for Pakistan,
31:57 he'll do performances like this there as well.
32:00 And he'll give the control
32:01 that Pakistan needs in fast bowling.
32:05 Throughout, in the entire inning,
32:06 in the wide ball, even in the red ball.
32:09 Right. So, for you, Hafeez,
32:11 the most impactful emerging player from Pakistan.
32:15 I think we've seen a lot of players,
32:18 but I was most impressed by Salman Agha.
32:22 He's a seasonal player,
32:24 he's been playing first class cricket for years,
32:26 playing test cricket for Pakistan.
32:28 In this tournament, it was a surprise package from Islamabad.
32:32 The way he absorbed the pressure,
32:34 he showed his talent in his game.
32:37 He scored 295 runs with a strike rate of 147.
32:41 Along with that, with his spin bowling,
32:43 I think he's still underutilized,
32:45 but all the contributions he made as a bowler,
32:49 he made them.
32:50 And he's a very good fielder.
32:52 So, I think, overall, all the players
32:56 are good players.
32:58 I was impressed by Salman Agha.
33:00 He's a T20 former,
33:01 which people don't think he can play.
33:04 But he changed their opinions
33:05 and gave his big performances.
33:08 And for you, Asad.
33:09 Osman Khan, although he's playing as an overseas player,
33:13 but the maturity and the command he battled with...
33:17 But how does he make a case for Pakistan?
33:19 I believe he still has a Pakistani passport,
33:21 but he has a UAE residency,
33:24 he doesn't have UAE nationality,
33:26 but we've entertained him as an overseas player.
33:28 How does this work?
33:30 Because, I think,
33:33 if he plays locally,
33:37 he loses his status there.
33:39 Similarly, with the county players,
33:41 those from the Pakistan region,
33:43 if they play here as a local player,
33:45 or play domestically as a local player,
33:47 then they lose their local status there.
33:51 That's why he has to play as an overseas player.
33:53 I think he still qualifies to play for Pakistan.
33:57 That's what's written here.
33:58 But I was impressed with everyone.
34:01 The maturity we miss in Pakistan's middle order,
34:05 they've shown that.
34:07 And they don't have a problem with numbers.
34:09 They can play on number 3 and open the ball.
34:12 And they can bat up to number 4.
34:16 So that is where I feel he's a complete player.
34:19 But obviously, franchise cricket and international cricket
34:22 are two different things.
34:23 But we have seen he's a fantastic player.
34:26 Right. Let's take a look at this graphic now.
34:27 We have the best emerging players of the HBL PSL 9.
34:30 They're coming on your screen.
34:31 Let's take a look at this.
34:33 Look at that now. Those are the names.
34:35 We've got Mehran Muntaz.
34:36 Four wickets in four matches prior to the eliminator.
34:39 Irfan Khan-Yazi, you mentioned him.
34:41 Hunain Shah.
34:43 Again, he has to work a lot on his fielding.
34:46 And that's what you pointed out yesterday as well, Wasim.
34:49 Khawaja Nafi. He showed us a glimpse
34:51 that he's a fantastic batsman.
34:53 But after that glimpse, Wasim...
34:54 -He's only 61. -He's only 61.
34:56 -That's not good enough. -That's not good enough.
34:58 Jandat Khan. He showed us a glimpse as well.
35:01 But it really couldn't translate anything massive throughout.
35:05 Then there is Yasir Khan. We saw that half century by him.
35:09 And then it is Faisal Akram.
35:11 Faisal Akram actually...
35:12 We talked a lot about him once.
35:15 But again, he also, after one game,
35:17 couldn't really make much of an impression.
35:20 It's the same thing we keep saying.
35:22 Until a player is in the season,
35:26 there is no consistency.
35:27 Even in bowling, the lines and lengths
35:30 won't be controlled.
35:32 It will be like this. There will be one-off performances.
35:35 And then you'll struggle in the next match.
35:36 -So they need more time. -Right.
35:38 As you play, talent is there.
35:41 Ability and potential are there.
35:44 But the control and temperament that you develop
35:48 will be with you throughout the game.
35:51 Wasim, let me ask you one very important question.
35:54 It's a common thing that on the basis of HBL and PSL,
35:59 you make big decisions for the Pakistan team.
36:01 And maybe it's just a little premature for some players
36:04 that they should give them more chances
36:07 to prove their worth before we all become excited.
36:10 Like Khawaja Nafi. He played a great inning.
36:13 He played a great inning.
36:14 But everybody started saying that he should be in the Pakistan team.
36:17 And then he just couldn't perform in the rest of the...
36:19 Do you think that looking back at this PSL 9,
36:24 should Pakistani selectors and Pakistan Cricket Board
36:27 be making some serious decisions for the World Cup T20?
36:31 Look, it all depends.
36:34 They have to also consider not just this PSL.
36:38 Domestic T20, One Day, even Red Balls.
36:41 They have mixed all of them and shown their performance.
36:44 You can't compare Pakistan with just one tournament.
36:47 Unless and until he's someone exceptional.
36:51 Like Sachin Tendulkar, who was 16 years old.
36:53 If he's someone exceptional, then it's okay.
36:56 If he's exceptional, but you need him in your team
37:00 and you don't see any other solution for him,
37:03 then you can make such decisions.
37:06 But overall, what Wasim said is spot on.
37:10 Unless you see his performance in the longer period,
37:15 like playing two seasons,
37:17 and what he did in the 4-Day,
37:19 and even in the White Ball, he's consistently good.
37:22 - He's not a one-off. - He's a one-off.
37:24 And then the process is very important.
37:26 He's a bowler, he has control, variation, good temperament.
37:31 He's a batsman, what's his technique,
37:34 how does he handle pressure,
37:36 short ball, pace bowler, mystery spin.
37:40 Unless you see all of that, it's very difficult.
37:44 I think they should do this.
37:46 It's not a franchise, but it's okay to try.
37:49 Because they are the gateway to...
37:53 - The franchise league is a gateway to their country. - Yes.
37:57 Players can go there. They should say,
37:59 "If you're not a good fielder, we won't pick you."
38:03 Thank you, gentlemen.
38:04 We've got the big game tomorrow.
38:06 We present you the identity.
38:07 It's a match of tomorrow.
38:09 Tomorrow night, at 9 PM,
38:11 the final of the HBL PSL 9 will be played live.
38:14 It is Multan Sultan's taking on Islamabad United
38:18 live from the National Stadium, Karachi, at 9 PM.
38:21 We will be at your service tomorrow evening at 7 PM.
38:25 We will be there again with the pre-match session
38:28 to talk all about it.
38:30 It's going to be a great game because two fantastic teams...
38:33 - Two deserving teams. - Deserving teams.
38:35 They played better cricket than the other four franchises.
38:38 Four teams.
38:39 And they have qualified for the finals.
38:40 I wish them all the luck, both of them.
38:42 And in the end, the best team should win.
38:44 Absolutely. And in the end, also the best expert predictions person should win.
38:48 You're already leading. I saw the new leaderboard.
38:51 - And you have 48 points. - Oh, thank you.
38:53 I did that. I took care of it.
38:54 And of course, whoever wins the leaderboard tomorrow
38:58 is also going to be given an award.
39:00 So we'll share that here live tomorrow in the post-match.
39:02 So keep watching.
39:03 Pavilion, I'm Fakhr-e-Alam.
39:05 This is A-Sports.
39:07 Thank you, Azad. Thank you, Hafeez.
39:08 Thank you, Misbah. Thank you, Waseem.
39:10 We will see you at 7 o'clock tomorrow, guys. Have fun.
39:13 And with that, signing off, Idhbid Kulkan. Good night.
39:16 Good night.
39:17 (upbeat music)
39:19 (upbeat music)
