PNE's boss returns to Home Park this weekend
Transcript
00:00 Your coach, Charlie, didn't he surprise you at all, stepping up to this level on this floor?
00:04 I should have sat in the gym earlier!
00:07 As he surprised me, I was like, "He's a great lad, right, I'll still speak to him now."
00:14 But he scored a fantastic goal against Sunderland the other week, and as soon as I seen it, that's the right man.
00:22 He had the eyebrow from Blackpool reserves, he came down to Plymouth and scored goals off the bench.
00:30 He was actually a super sub out of first year when he came down, because he was coming off the bench scoring and he was unbelievable.
00:37 And then obviously the following season we decided to take him again and signed him on a loan to him, because I paid some money for him.
00:43 He hasn't looked back to be fair, but he's a great kid, great goal scorer and deserves the credit he's getting and the goals he's scoring.
00:52 But yeah, he was one that, could he step up to Championship level, there's question marks, I'm not going to lie, but he has done it.
01:00 He's done it globally and done it really well, so I'm really pleased for him, but hopefully we can just keep him quiet for a bit.
01:07 Is it something you've never looked at going back for your old players? Remember you got asked that at France 4?
01:11 How did you feel like someone when you first came?
01:13 Do you know what mate, I'm morally different, I'm a respectful fella and I didn't want to, when I left Plymouth I could have brought players with me to Preston or at the end easily.
01:30 But I had so much respect for Plymouth Daggart as a football club and as a fan base and respect for the owner and CEO and everyone associated with the football club and I didn't feel I needed to do anything like that.
01:45 I just felt those were the players who were just all as good.
01:49 That was one thing I never did was go back for any of the players when I could have easily and I just felt, I don't like the fact, because I wouldn't have liked it if that was me.
02:01 So I just chose not to, I think at the time obviously it was Shiri Gertie, one of my best mates and he was the manager at the time and I had so much love for everyone there, at the club, staff, directors, owner, fans, players.
02:16 I just felt it was too hard to do and that's the reason I never done it because I wanted to, I left anyway which wasn't great in me leaving but the last thing I wanted to do was go back and get any players.
02:28 You got Cameron Archie and he was alright.
02:30 Well yeah, that was another thing and then we ended up getting Cam, we had Tom Camden in terms of strikers.
02:36 I know some people settled down there, some people we had players, positions, we already had them type of players anyway so we didn't really need them but I always felt that it was, for me on a personal note, I didn't really want to do that.
