00:00 President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is angry that the Philippines does not recognize
00:05 or that any country has a 10-line that China has set up in South China and West Philippine Sea.
00:13 Kenneth Paciete will be back.
00:16 President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. was angry that the Philippines will oppose
00:22 the right of the issue to be settled in the West Philippine Sea.
00:25 This was said by the President following his visit to Chancellor Olaf Scholz of Germany
00:30 on the second day of his working visit to Berlin, Germany.
00:34 According to the President, this is not only an issue of the Philippines,
00:37 but also of the whole world, especially the South China Sea,
00:41 which is a large part of the world's population.
00:44 It's not solely the interest of the Philippines or of ASEAN
00:49 or of the Indo-Pacific region but the entire world.
00:53 And that's why it is in all our interest to keep it as a safe passage
00:59 for all international commerce that goes on in the South China Sea.
01:05 That's why it is only right that the President give importance to following the rules-based
01:10 international order and respect the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea or UNCLOS.
01:16 I reiterated that the Philippines remains committed to addressing issues through dialogue
01:21 and consultation. Yet the Philippines, like any sovereign state, will continue to firmly defend
01:28 its sovereignty, its sovereign rights and jurisdiction in accordance with international law.
01:34 President Marcos Jr. also suggested that the Philippines
01:37 should refuse some maritime proposals from China.
01:42 That premise that China has made is that their territory follows what is now described as a
01:50 10-dash line. This is not recognized by any country, any international body,
01:57 certainly not by the Philippines. Our baselines have been well established for years now.
02:02 We have the economic zone that China has already intruded upon. And until that premise that China
02:16 has made in terms of all its discussions with the Philippines, then it's very difficult to see
02:22 a way forward because it is for myself, for example, as I always explain, when I took office,
02:32 I took an oath to defend and support the Constitution of the Philippines.
02:37 The first article of the Constitution of the Philippines is the article that describes
02:45 and defines the territorial area, maritime and land-based territory of the Philippines.
02:53 And it is my duty, I have no choice but to defend that and we will continue to do that.
02:58 Aside from the WPS issue, the defense cooperation is with the two leaders.
03:04 President Marcos Jr. said that the Philippines has long been with Germany in training for the AFP.
03:10 On defense cooperation, Germany has been providing training to the personnel of the
03:16 armed forces of the Philippines since 1974, making Germany the second oldest formal defense
03:23 partner of the Philippines. And I express the Philippine government's openness to discussions
03:29 and cooperation that go beyond training and into new areas such as cyber and maritime domains.
03:35 The President also acknowledged the help of the German government in the capacity building of the
03:39 Philippine Coast Guard, which will further strengthen their joint declaration of intent
03:43 for the cooperation of the maritime sector in the two countries. The executive board also said that
03:49 they are discussing economic cooperation for the development and development of some German
03:53 companies in the Philippines. Our economic dynamism is driven by strong domestic consumption,
04:00 supported by a diverse labor market, a growing services industry, and remittances from our
04:07 overseas workers. Investing in the Philippines is now a more attractive option given the legal
04:14 reforms that allow full foreign ownership on certain sectors such as railways, airports,
04:20 expressways, telecommunications, and renewable energy. The expansion of labor cooperation,
04:27 especially for Filipino skilled workers, is also discussed. That is through the signing of the
04:31 Renewal of Cooperation Program through the TESDA and Federal Institute for Vocational Education
04:36 and Training of Germany, which will be a path for the upskilling and reskilling of Filipino workers.
04:42 The activities of the President started at the Chancellery, where he was warmly welcomed by the
04:46 German Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz. Here, the President of the Philippines welcomed the arrival
04:51 honors. House Speaker Martin Romualdez and other members of the Cabinet were also present at the ceremony.
04:57 From Berlin, Germany, Kenneth Paciente for Pambansang TV in the new Philippines.
